Championship at Moon Valley Country Club
About
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.
Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

Not worth the trip
Supposedly a private course but in reality it's just like a muni.
Greens were sanded and we were not notified in advance.
Great staff and course
The course is in very good condition, especially the greens for this time of the year (July).
I always wanted to play this course after watching the LPGA tournament. The experience was well worth the wait.
Beautifully maintained course with exciting challenges. My wife and I played as a twosome and look forward to playing again if the course remains open to the public. Even the practice area offered a variety of experiences to practice all phases of the game before attempting the course.
lovely course
The course was in beautiful shape. The greens rolled true even though they had recently been top dressed. Can hardly wait to play it again on a less humid day.
A classic design with challenges and picturesque beauty.
A fundamentally great course and nobody is out there at 6:30 in the morning! The track is in great shape with plenty of bunkers, doglegs and water to make for an interesting round. I couldn't handle the tips(7200 Yds), found the blue tees very challenging(6500 +) and will play the forward tees next time. You will want to bring a foursome for this one!
Excellent course!
This was my first time playing this course and I enjoyed it thoroughly. 7200 yards from the tips and some challenging green complexes. I like the old style feel off the tees mixed with more modern sets of greens and bunkering. The course was in great condition when I played in June. This was a huge step up from Arrowhead Country Club. I highly recommend. I would love to play here more.
A well maintained and challenging course!
Very well laid out - some challenging holes with lots of sand traps / water - 1st time we played here - really liked the course, look forward to playing it again!
The course needs maintenance.
The greens were in good shape, but everything else needs attention. A Marshall was out but did nothing to improve the pace of play. Will cross this course off the "want to play it again" list.
Nice course, in good condition.
I like the lay out a lot. Old style course you wouldn't get tired of playing. Played with some members and had a great time. I will come back.
could be fantastic course needs water
Really liked the layout but the course was very dry almost unfair greens do to speeds
A fun course to play
I like the Moon Valley because of the staff attentiveness and because the course is fun to play
Absolutely loved it
I drove over an hour to play this course. It was my first time and being a woman who wouldn't want to play on a course Annika scored her record 59?
I shot a 79 so she got me by 20. The course plays blind the first time. I use a range finder not GPS. I enjoyed this an found it moderate in difficulty playing the option of 5600 yards.
My husband played the tips. He'd give it a higher difficulty rating as a first time played course. Without a map or picture of the holes he learned his lesson to keep drive in the bag on 17 where it is almost a crescent shaped hole that bends right with water protecting the green.
Mature trees linig the fairways offer welcomed shading and strategy to avoid trouble. Plenty of bunkering in all shapes and sizing warning the golfer to play this was if you dare.
The greens were receptive. Something I haven't had recently here in AZ in a while. My guess they were running close to a 9 on the Stimp. Good character with a lot of multi decks, ridges, undulations. Another quality I haven't seen here in AZ unless going to newer High end courses.
beautiful course
best greens i have played on in awhile, roll very true....sand traps perfect, just like the big boys play in...off the tee, slightly forgiving for scoring...wonderful tree lined fairways...great practice facility..the nice roll of the greens kept my score in check...smooth 75 tyvm, first time on this track
Disappointing
I was excited to golf this private country club; but after arriving I found out that the course had gone into bankruptcy and that the course maintenance was lacking. I think this was once a beautiful course, but it needs work and money...so sad.
However, I had a wonderful time with my friend and the 2 gentlemen that we were paired with. We all laughed a lot, had fun, enjoyed being outdoors & golfed our usual so-so. :)
this course was a pleasure to play
the fairways was in excelent condition and greens in good condition considering the hot weather lately
Tree lined fairways and speedy greens made for an enjoyable round of golf.
The fairways and greens are in great condition, however the bunkers really need attention. There is no sand in any of the bunkers just gravel and hard pan. The staff were "invisible" and there is no indication on how to get to your next hole - kinda frustrating. The practice facilities are excellent and the course is moderately challenging especially if you veer off the fairways.
Well maintained with very high bordering roughs.
Tee boxes tend to the hard side. Fairways are well maintained but rough border is very unforgiving due to very long grass height. Greens are ball roll smooth are tend to be fast. Overall course is very playable although the par 3's are challenging in their length.
This course is in trouble.
we experienced a course during prime seaon that evidently cut off water to their majestic trees (now dead or dying) and rough. Hit off so many dead patches it reminded me of a muni course. Bunkers lack sand,The driving range is reminiscent of Tin Cup. Of the hundred or so different courses I've played in the Phoenix area would rate this course experience and value amongst the worst.. We had to start on the back nine to accomodate the members who made it clear that guests were not welcome.
We highly reccommend the course.
We had a great time playing Moon Valley. The greens are excellent. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant service and food were very good.
.
Greens well maintained ,Tee boxes good shape, fairways where landing areas are well maintain , areas outside these areas desperate need of TLC
