Challenging, but fair course, Excellent practice facilities
Pro shop personnel were very cordial. Personnel signing out carts and handing out range balls were not harsh, but also not friendly. Excellent grass range and practice greens. Nice chipping area with bunkers. Greens and bunkers in practice area match course. Sand in bunkers was firm. Many tee shots appeared daunting, but landing areas were generous. Course demands shot management. I'll play it again.
It's a downhill lie at Lost Canyons
Unfortunately Lost Canyons Sky Course seems to have lost its appeal to many in the area. While the greens were still very puttable, the rest of the course is really suffering from lack of upkeep. When I asked one of the staff why the course was looking so rough, he said "the economy" has driven people away and they don't have the money to keep the course up to the levels that it was at not too long ago. It's too bad, this was a fun track but it feels like the course is on the verge of going under. Your money is better spent elsewhere at this point.
Course appears to be closing
This used to be a pristine, elite golf course. Rising water prices in Simi Valley and a troubled economy have made it a barren wasteland of dead grass and forgotten greens. don't waste your money, even if its only a few bucks.
Never again
Lost Canyons golf course has steadily gone downhill since I first started playing the course in late 2011. Over the last two years the course(s) do not have any upkeep whatsoever. The fairways could be considered some of the hardest fairways I have ever played on. It was close to hitting on concrete, with dirt flying in the air after a shot. In order to get a divot, I would have needed a shovel instead of a golf club. In the winter time, I would hope all courses would use the low temperatures to their advantage and get the fairways and greens in beautiful shape. Not at Lost Canyons. The greens were covered in sand. There were a few nice greens, but for the most part, they were terrible. The public courses around the Los Angeles County are in better condition. I will never go back to the course again unless they find a new greenskeeper or get some water on the course.
The amenities are not very good either. There is no spot to clean a ball, throw out trash, or get water to stay hydrated on the course.
Pete Dye and Fred Couples would be upset
I played the Sky Course this past Saturday. It used to be a country club type course. The last time I played here was about 8 years ago. Wow, times have changed. The fairways were in terrible shape. They were brown and had tufts of different grass blended in with regular fairway grass. You couldn't get a smooth takeaway on your swing without hitting one of those. Luckliy, I had a gift certificate, but my playing partners paid over $100. DEFINITELY not worth that! You also had to pay an extra $2 for the on-cart GPS with a Black and White display. My cell phone app was better than that piece of junk. Beware.....There are NO watering stations throughout the course. You have to bring your own or buy thier $2.50 16 oz bottles. I don't hink I'll ever come back unless they get a reputable management company to give it a HUGE makeover.
Great rustic view on Sky course
Browny fairway. Poor maintenance on greens. This beautiful course needs real maintenance upgrade.
This course is in a terrible shape and doesn't warrant the green fees. I would rate it at a Muni type at best.
- the bad drop area was not operated at all on a Sunday, with a full Parking Lot
- they charge extra for the GPS System
- The Fairway Bunkers had almost no sand in them
- the Greens were OK, but aren't the best
- when a course charges a premium, they better operate it as such
A course that can't decide whether they are in it for the long run
Played the Sky course yesterday. I generally play here when other courses in the area are booked. Overall, it was an above average experience, primarily because of the pace of play. That said, it just seems Lost Canyons is just doing the bare minimum to keep the place open. Course conditions are mediocre, particularly for the price. It's too bad, because I really like the layout. Challenging but fair.
2 nice challenging courses
Decent pace, nice scenery, lots of challenging golf on these 2 courses. It can be a really great value if you get some of the hot deals on the site.
Challenging for sure
I love a challenge and that's what you get here. It was very interesting with 25mph winds but doable. It was also such fun watching the guys play off tees that they shouldn't have since they were all over the place. With this course you really need to stay on the fairway otherwise the ball is gone. Alot of right to left. For me it was the par 3's that were the toughest, I'd have to say because of the wind. I will be heading back there and hopefully the wind won't be as bad so I can see what the course is really like.
Course in horrible condition. I will not even pay $19.99 for the tee times on this place
What is going on on this course. REally! Really? Why? this used to be the jewel of all courses in the valley. Disapointed and all we kept talking about is someone is getting greedy on us and not doing any repairs in the greens or fairways.
Lovely course.
Lovely course in beatiful surroundings, not very long but challenging especially in windy conditions. The only thing not being a 5 star is that the greens weren´t really great.
This course lacks attention, the greens were not care for, bumpy, spotty, some to blame on other golfers, fix your pitch mark. The tees fair to dull,
Over all I won't be spending time there any time soon.!!
This course is great if it isn't windy and if you don't mind losing a lot of balls.
Had a diificult time because of the wind. Though the course is challenging it is beautiful and enjoyable to play. The plus is there were only a few people around on a Tuesday morning.
Beautiful and challenging, bring extra balls
The Sky Course is the one to play here, even though the shadow course has more bargains it is not worth it. The Sky course is difficult but has beautiful scenery and is usually in great shape. This not a traditional course because it is located in the hills, an errant ball is usually a lost ball and can get aggravating if you're not expecting it...bring some backup balls.
a joke
if i hadn't have got the deal through golf now, i would have asked for my money back, $80 would have been a joke.they even had the cheek to ask for $2 a player, if you wanted GPS on cart !
sand in bunkers were like concrete, tee boxes were lumpy and uneven.
the whole course is too gimmicky !
forever laying up and hitting up hill, with no clear view of target. if you played it every week, i'm sure it would be a little different. i don't like course, where they punish you for good shots !
bad condition
I went there to play from Las Vegas, it was waste time and money. Condition of course was poor and lay out is okay.
Well, first time is las time.
Like playing fantasy golf
I played the sky course, which is suppose to be the better of the two. I really hated it, and will not be back. Stupid tee boxes, ridiculous fairways. and silly greens. This is really like trying to play a video game, and not real golf. My advice to you is to go play Simi Hills, Moorpark, Tierra Rajada, or Rustic Canyon. But by all means, avoid Lost Canyons with all you can. Not worth the heart ache or round.
Excellent value when discounted
The discounted rate made the value excellent;
Summer Greens looked and were well maintained, but actually were considerably slower than expected - a higher full rate for the tee tim would have made this a not as much valued experience.
FYI - Over 15 handicap player will love the scenery but hate losing at least a dozen balls if they can't hit straight targets of at least 150 yds over canyons, etc.
Will definitely play here more as long as cost is not over $45.00
beat
This course is not what it used to be! Definitely not worth $75 a round. Barely worth $$44 a round on Golfnow and you have to scramble to get that rate.
