Was Probably a Nice Course at Some Point
This looks like it is a very nice course that has stopped being properly maintained for a couple of years. Staff at the course don't seem to care about the customers either. Played a 5.5 hour round here last Sunday (teed off b4 9 AM), saw the beverage cart between the 2nd and 3rd hole then never again, upon driving away from the 18th green was basically told by staff to get off the cart, it was needed for another golfer. It is a little annoying to have your gps keep telling you to pick up your pace that you are behind, when you have to wait 5 mins on every tee. Starter came and told us to immediately leave the practice area that we had to be at the first tee, only to get there and there are 2 groups on the tee already infront of us.
I have played at a few ClubLink courses before, I have no idea how they have screwed up the running of this one so bad. It is nothing like the experiences I have had at their other properties.
Course shape poor
Course is in poor shape
There were no carts
Gps system did not as it was setup for ranger
There are no rangers on the course
Play was slow
17th hole challenge is cumbersome/ did not wanted to pay when my player partner forgot to push start button and I hit the shot which was 9' from the vup
The greens putted extremely well, but were hard and did not hold approach shots. Tee boxes and fairways were fair. Sand traps were terrible.
Playable but No Fun!
The is not a very friendly to a lot of amateurs. It's has a very nice layout surrounded by larger homes. I main bad issue with the course is the extreme number of sand bunkers. Just about every shot has bunker danger. All of which make for a not so enjoyable day. I believe the crew is sick and tired to keep up and the bunkers, leaves a number in poor condition. My golf buddy and I decided, I wouldn't be playing at this course again!
Improving
Got there early however range and putting green where closed. Beyond control of the course. Pace was excellent even though it was extremely busy.
The tee boxes fairways and greens were good shape. Greens were good speed and consistent.
The rough was best described as gnarly. The bunkers really need work. Lots of stones and inconsistencies.
The course has gotten better but not there yet.
Course ok
The greens are kinda brown in areas but consistent
Speed.fairways are in pretty good shape.staff is helpful and friendly (thanks for returning my forgotten club sitting just off the green).
Tee boxes could use some seeding or resodding. but for the money it is a good deal. if you have a good shot at 17 and get in the contest before your round you can win a few bucks credit toward next round or 10 grand if you ACE it
Probably was very nice once....
A classic case of neglect for what was once a very nice setup I'm sure. Surroundings were still first class, club house, entrance, etc. Makes for great pictures. The course and course facilities are getting run down from lack of maintenance. Sad. Lots and lots of sand traps make for some target golf, but we like that. A high handicapper would probably get tired of being in the sand, especially since it was hard packed from rain three days earlier. Yes, three. What raking had been done was not effective. What few workers were present were working hard, just not enough of them I guess.
Fallen from grace
I played this course a few years ago. It was beautiful with well kept fairways and perfect soft, fluffy bunkers! Now the course is a disaster! The first clue was that we we're almost alone playing on a Sunday morning. The ball dispenser at the range was broken so we had to go back to the clubhouse to get our balls. The staff made up for the issue immediately which was nice. Once out of the course we found that the weed is all over the place even growing inside the bunkers! The overall landscape is overgrown and unkept. Our GPS on the cart was not working and without yardage makerks nor colored flags to mark where the pin is located on the green the round became even more frustrating. Our cart had tape all over it to keep the parts from not falling off! The ball washers was full of bleach for some reason and rusty water had strained the pagers underneath! The layout is nice and if you enjoy a challenging course with a myriad of bunkers this course is for you. The only plus was the food in the clubhouse and the very friendly and accommodating staff! I will not return to this close again, living in South Florida there are more options for me to play a better course with a much better value.
Course Downfall
Heron Bay use to be a very nice golf course. As a matter of fact it use to host the Honda Classic many years ago. Those were the days when the course was properly maintained and well-kept.... nowadays not so much. I believe it is a Club Link course and maybe they don't believe in keeping their courses in good condition and shape. The fairways have dead grass and on some holes their areas where it is just dirt and no grass whatsoever. There are weeds all over the course. The greens are in poor condition with a lot of dead areas in multiple places on different greens. The sand traps which use to be their signature item on this course are nothing more than just waste areas. The tee boxes are properly the best kept area on the course, but that's not saying much since they are not in great condition either. They even decided to change the holes by switching the front nine and back nine which makes no sense whatsoever. The driving range and putting area are now by hole #10 instead of the first hole. The cost is way too high for a course that now is nothing more than a 2-star rated course at the best. I was sorry to see how far and fast Heron Bay has descended from where it use to be as one of the premier TPC courses not only in Florida but across the country.
NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS - BUT STILL PLAYABLE
My foursome has played this course nearly every year since 2001 on our annual trip from Pittsburgh. While this was once a beautiful facility and course when owned by the TPC, it is nowhere near that condition and probably never will be again. I can't understand why so many of the golf carts are starving for maintenance. Near the end of our first nine holes, my partner and I had to push the other cart with ours to get to the turn. That cart's GPS was not operating either and an exchange was made at the turn. The greens really were in good condition and rolled true. The only saving grace was that the cost to play was really cheap. What I would hope for in the future is that someone put the necessary time and money into the facility and try to reestablish it as a top-tier course.
Sand sand sand
Nice course. Counted as many as 9 sand traps on one hole.
HORRIBLE
The course has declined over the years. Maintenance is a big issue. The outside staff, besides Jim, are of no use and are obnoxious and surly. The starter at the cart location outside the office was not attentive and had to be asked several times to get us a cart. When we were given a cart it was not in usable condition. Sorry to say but this place has lost all of its luster and customer service is non existant. The price was right but everything else was wrong. There are too many courses around to have to put up with this nonsense.
Heron Bay
They re-did the greens and they are significantly better than last year and the fairways are being re-seeded and in much better shape....huge improvement over last year
I agree totally. Too Cheap to Sand Bunkers so they call them waste Bunkers Greens horendious Cow Friggin Pasture
