Cardinal at Diamondhead Country Club
About
The 18-hole Cardinal at Diamondhead Country Club, half of a 36-hole layout on the property, is a semi-private course that opened in 1979.
Designed by Earl Stone, the golf course measures 6,831 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 132 and a 72.7 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.
The major challenges for both golf courses are their tree-lined fairways. The Cardinal Course is wooded and was built on gently rolling terrain. It has no parallel fairways and extra-long sand bunkers.

Course is awesome …Pro shop demeanor—below par
I played the course 3 times in 3 days—so this review comes with a solid perspective. If anyone wants to putt on first class greens both courses will make you very happy. Homes around the courses don’t really come into play so no need to panic. The locals were very friendly that I played with on the pines course Saturday . Had a great round with them helping me around the course. First and last day played as a single …not a problem unless you run into a 5 some of privileged golfers. I’ve played all over the world and to see seniors not picking up trash or repairing marks in fairways and greens was disheartening—-that none of my business but nevertheless it was bothersome for such a nice place. Now the negative. I played one round for regular fee, two rounds using GolfNow. I was definitely treated differently when using GolfNow. The check in process was no where near as friendly nor professional as when I paid full price. both times using golf now there was no getting keys then not being told the range was closed but still paying at check in for balls was uncomfortable. I also had the privilege to be checked on by the starter as a single and being congratulated that I was keeping pace with the threesomes in front of me. I’m a 7 handicap but was made to feel like I didn’t know how to play. That’s ok I enjoyed the starter watching me hit shots…lol. I didn’t see a starter on Saturday or Sunday. The pine course was closed so maybe guys needed something to do. I would play the courses again but would figure out a way to stay out of the pro shop with a golf now purchase. There was definitely a different and unwelcome vibe.
So you know I have taught public school for 34 year and I know people. The golfers once again were nice even though I couldn’t play through which is their choice. The pro shop needs adjusting if there is a stigma using Golf Now.
Great course
The course was great especially for the price, staff very helpful, got off earlier than teetime. Would play again when in the area.
Awesome course
Greens were pga fast and fairways were perfect.
Can’t wait to go back.
First time playing this course.
The course was very nice and well kelp. Truly enjoyed it with my son.
Diamondhead Pine Course
The course was really well taken care of. Some bald spots here and there, but for the value was great for the money
Great condition. Staff needs service training. (Cardinal course) May 2023
Greens were in good shape and rolled well. A few patches of algae and dead grass. Fairways were smooth and cut. Rough wasn’t too high. Bring a rangefinder or app. No yardage on sprinkler heads.
Looked at reviews prior to booking and did not see anything about the range and chipping greens being closed in general or Mondays. Arrived an hour early and told range was closed. Girl working the desk was not knowledgeable. Had to ask the guys in the back office. Her line of questions also didn’t flow and offered no directions to the first hole, grille, or anything golf related. Asked if I was a member after I told her I booked GolfNow. Told me to pay after seeing my GolfNow reservation. Then asked if it was my first time but didn’t offer any direction or guidance.
Bathrooms are filthy, sink faucets need replacement, and a little brightening up. If there was a grille I have no idea how to access it. No cart girl. Two fives ones of members in front of us with their own carts. One was a complete dbag. Lady Starter was nice and allowed us off early. Get rid of the cart agreement— add the verbiage to the tee booking. Very cheap and petty.
