Canyon/Lakes at Spanish Trail Country Club
About
Spanish Trail Country Club is a 27-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Founded in 1984, the club is one of the oldest in Las Vegas. The holes are divided into three nines, which can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon/Lakes Course is the longest of the three combinations and it begins with the most difficult of the nines. The Canyon is a desert-style course with a final stretch of holes that will test even the best players. The seventh through ninth holes feature a bevy of hazards, ending with an elevated green surrounded by cavernous bunkers. As you could have guessed from the name, the back nine, the Lakes, has water coming into play on six holes. Due to the fast and undulating greens throughout the entire golf course, accuracy on your approaches is key.

Par 3 - Spanish Trail Photo submitted by Bissonpa on 11/26/2012
We are high handicappers so the course was very difficult (especially the slope of the greens)
1st and last time
The fact that "Spanish Trails" used to be a private course that people paid premiums for is beyond me. The price you pay is mearly for for the greens and the sand in the green side bunkers nothing more, get your self stuck jn a fairway bunker and you better bring a jack hammer because its concrete. Alot of the ground is in repair marked by white lines unfortunettly they need to draw a white line around every green within 30 yards. The ground is so inconsist in these areas. 5 1/2 hour round not my type of golf.
Fantastic Course, Can't Wait To Play Again
Country club comprised of three 9-holes. Played the Canyons as the front 9 and The Lakes as the back 9.
The highlight of the courses is the The Lakes which is a ton of target golf, super long par 4s and really challenging greens.
Just book it.
Best layout in town..
Awesome greens, beautiful shape, and a good practice area, except hitting off the mat.
Loved This Course
I thought this course was fantastic. For a 21 handicapper it was challenging but not so hard that it wasn't fun. It was forgiving. Course was in great shape.
Oot conference
Staff took great care of me as I needed to store luggage etc after a late flight didn't leave me time to check in at my hotel. The course was in fantastic shape just a bit of a tricky neighborhood layout from the tee doesn't always feel like golf at it's finest...definitely feels squeezed in spots. Difficulty 100 yds and in is challenging and the real key highlight of this course. Some beautiful signature holes. Need low bounce wedge for deep and purposefully thin lied bunkers.
My new fave in Las Vegas
What a gem just 3 miles west of the strip. This used to be an exclusively private course that recently opened itself up for public play. Great clubhouse and layout. They have 3 nines and the pro shop sets you up with the two nines that you play. It is incredibly quiet and tranquil out there. You're surrounded by huge mansions that probably get lived in only 2 or 3 times a year. They also space the foursomes out so you can get around in under 4 hours. Definitely my new favorite course in Vegas. We paid $150 for a prime time weekend round which is way less than what you would have to pay playing the Wynn, Shadow Creek, or Cascata.
Country Club
Excellent course one of the oldest in Vegas. Some staff are rude to non members. Nonetheless I may join next year.
I will not play here again
The rate quoted on GolfNow is NOT the rate you will be charged! They add additional fees. The PS guy said they do that "to make the Green Fees look more attractive." I should have left and am angry with myself that I did not.
It was also odd that I asked the PS guy 3 times for the name of the 3-some I would be playing with so that I could listen for their name and mine being called to the T-box. He outright ignored me. When I asked the 3rd time, he just looked at me like I was crazy. It was very strange, but I found out why later...
I was called to the T-box a bit late (just a couple of minutes). When I got there, the starter said they let the 3-some (he was very specific) I was supposed to play with leave early. Odd, but OK...
I caught up with them a few holes later and there were 4 of them, not 3. They told me they added the 4th late and that's why the course tried to "squeeze" them in between T-times. It ended up being a 5+ hour round - waiting at every hole. They did not want to let me play through because they were already waiting at every hole.
The course was in "OK" condition. Everything was pretty good except for some large (10ft+ diameter) dirt areas in the fairways.
Getting there
Local here. Greens just about back from sanding. Give it a few more weeks and they will be perfect. Overall still needs some upkeep from the winter. This is a great course, great staff, and we'll be back next week.
Nice Layout; Cost Heavy
The layout of the course is nice. It was a tough day with the wind, which made it a challenging 18. A little disappointed with a $129 round because there was no mention of the greens being airrated and sanded.
We would've played regardless, but being aware that the course wasn't in peak condition would've been nice.
Good Course
I was lucky enough to hook up with a couple of locals who were more than happy to show me around and tell me where to hit. A tight course winding through a gated community, I left a few balls in a couple of back yards!
I really enjoyed the course and would play it again.
Great layout, lovely views. I wish there was a way to find out about seeding the greens when booking. I would have played somewhere else that day. Putting was a wild card due to the conditions of the greens.
