About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
You gotta play it....
Everything has been said already by other satisfied reviewers....great place to play....worth the drive from anywhere....do it...!
WAY OVER PRICED
This place is in huge decline. They can't event keep the driveways in & out drivable. Don't pay these rip off prices when there's great golf in the area for 50% less. Frankly can't remember a worse golf course for the money.
great course
This is a beautiful course. Plan to the play the other course as well. The price was fantastic for the quality.
This course is a great layout.
The fairways and greens were in good condition, except for a few greens . Other areas in need of cleaning up and cutting.
The cart paths are in need of serious repair. These conditions have existed for a few years.
Great day, even though insanely HOT!!!
Course was in great shape overall. Only 2 holes had small patches of burn on the greens (this time of year I'll take that as a win as most courses have some on just about every green). Pace tightened up last half of back nine. I seemed to care less & less as I enjoyed an excellent turkey club sandwich which was delivered to us by the 10th hole! I will be back VERY soon, even if it is blisteringly hot again.
Beautiful course in the middle of Pine Barrens.
Great course. Shot placement is critical on many holes. At over 5,800 yards, a little bit long for senior tees but a very wonderful course. By no means easy, but surely a whole bunch of fun.
Unique Florida course
I have heard and wanted to play this course for years. We played a few days after a tropical storm came through the area and there no standing water. The course drains well. The layout and landscape is the most unique I’ve seen in Florida. There may elevation changes and the greens are a fair size that undulate. It felt as if we were on vacation out of state. I fully recommend this course.
Greens and fairways are in good shape after all the rain. Pace of play is fairly slow, but moved as you got into the round. Always a good deal in the summer.
The best public course in Florida
I love every single hole of this course.. Each hole has it’s unique beautify and each unique challenges. It’s a one hour and 15 minutes drive from where I live but I would love to drive and play there again every single week if I have the opportunity.
Greens a little beat up and slow
One of the best courses in FL but have never seen the greens in this bad of shape and slow. Course needs a little TLC
This is AWESOME GOLF
Gifted with a day to do what I wanted while on vacation in Orlando, I decided to take the long-ish hike up to World Woods Golf Club to play the Pine Barrens course. It's perennially one of the top 10 public courses in Florida. Often courses like this don't live up to the hype. This one absolutely does. Grand in every way, the course is the thing. From the opening tee to the final green, the challenges are constant. The course is memorable and tough. The photogenic 4th hole, the double greens at the par four 12th hole, and the signature 15th hole are all just a part of a great round of golf.
When I played, it had been raining quite a bit in the days prior but the course held zero water. Nice to be built on sandy piney soils. There were a few greens with some spots on them, probably from excessive water runoff, but nothing major.
This course is a challenge for every golfer and if you don't like sand, you may be in for some extra challenges. But the beauty of the course and the layout will make up for it.
And the price.... I played a weekday mid-day round in the heat for $40 plus tax. Seriously. One of the top rated courses in the state for under $50 is a steal.
There are no houses on the course, it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. It was an hour and a half drive from Orlando. It's about an hour and a half from Gainesville and just about an hour from Tampa. The clubhouse isn't opulent - on the contrary it's very unassuming for a course with its reputation.
I can't possibly recommend this course more. And make a time of it - there is a short course as well as a sister championship course in Rolling Oaks, which is also highly rated. Pine Barrens is a Tom Fazio design and is a bit rough around the edges, a bit reminiscent of places like Pinehurst with the rough not so thick and penal but shrubby. Trust me, I hit balls all over the lot and found almost all of them. Rolling Oaks is a bit more traditional with well defined edges.
This is tremendous golf and well worth the trip from anywhere.
Nice track
Course is tough. I would definitely buy a yardage book. A lot of shots you have no clue what’s ahead. Greens were getting better from being punched very puttable. Pace of play was slow waited every shot. It was very busy. If you shoot over 85 play the white tees. Even the green tees are difficult at 6300 yards. Course feels like it plays longer than it says.
Never pass up the opportunity
Great course
Never feel like I should have played somewhere else
