Lovely course well maintained
Long tee shots needed to clear heavy rough in front of fairways. Large undulating challenging greens.
Fairways well mowed in excellent condition.
the cource
The Jewel was in great shape and play was fast.
Happy to hear you loved the course! Come back and see us at The Jewel Golf Club.
The Jewel
Course was in great shape and always presents a good challenge. Staff was friendly and polite.
Thanks for your feedback! Glad we could give you a bit of a challenge!
Worth the drive
Heard about this course through a friend, them saw it listed on the Top 50 list here on Golf Advisor. The course is a lot of fun, beautiful views of the surrounding area. I would recommend this to anyone who lives in the Twin Cities and looking for something different. I will definitely make it back to play!
Perfect Day at The Jewel
WE got a great rate, some mixup saved us even more money...the weather was fantastic, maybe the best day of the year. We got teamed up with a local golfer and had a great time talking golf the whole round. My wife shot her best round ever. And then we had a great meal at a nice restaurant on the lake, Nosh.
We are so happy to hear about your experience and that you have spent an excellent day with us! Thanks for the review.
Jewel Review
A very strong Minnesota course. A nice combination of woods golf and links golf. Approximately 1/3 of the course played links style while the other 2/3s was a bit more back in the woods for lack of a better word. All holes were challenging but fair. Didn't lose a ball all day and there were not many opportunites to do so. A nice amount of undulation throughout the course forced one to use their imaginations. A quality play, I just wish it was closer to the cities.
Thank you for playing a round with us! We appreciate your review and hope to see you on the course in the future!
A Must Play Minnesota Course!
I've played this course many times and have never been disappointed. Great service in both the pro shop and the restaurant. The course is always in great condition even out of peek season. The holes have many variations from links type holes to elevated tees, water and trees. It is carved beautifully along and into the Mississippi bluffs! The restaurant has excellent food as well with a great outside deck overlooking hole 9! Lastly the practice facilities are excellent as well!
Thank you for your 5 star review! We are thrilled to have impressed you once again. Hope to see you on the course again soon!
Great course to play
We love this course and feel it is the best bargain around. The course is always in excellent shape if it is their 1st day open or last day before they close. Well designed.
Excellent! Glad you loved the course and the conditions. Looking forward to seeing you back at The Jewel!
Jewel
Played in November. Course was in decent shape for that time of year, leaves on ground was not a problem. It was a scenic course and I imagine it is better when all the foliage is out in summer. Glad I printed out the course hole by hole tour from their website so I had an idea of what to expect on the holes. There are some bunkers you can't see well and really need to be aware of their locations. Fairways were wide enough for average players. Greens are not overly fast but they have some undulations so you need adjust your approach shots. Nice course but from my perspective not worth the premium price they charge.
Great tips for those new golfers! Thanks for playing at The Jewel Golf Club. We appreciate the feedback and we hope to see you again. We always post the best rates online, feel free to check out our website as we open up in spring 2016. See you again soon!
Great day!
The course was in amazing condition, especially considering it was the 3rd week in October.
Awesome! Thank you for leaving your review on The Jewel Golf Club. We are so glad you loved the course and the conditions here at The Jewel. We can't wait to see you once we open back up in 2016. See you soon!
We go every year...
We go out to the Jewel once a year at least. It is on the more expensive side but definitely worth it once or twice if cost is your main deciding factor. The course is set up beautifully, they have a lot of room out there to do whatever they want. And walking should not be an option as the Jewel is HUGE. I wouldn't want to walk that course unless I set aside 4 hours minimum.
Top reasons this course is one of our favorites in MN:
1. Red Wing area means BEAUTIFUL scenery with the bluffs. On 14, you are nearly surrounded by these bluffs. We were lucky enough one round to have OVER 1,000 birds (not exaggerating) congregate as we hit our second shots this past fall. I will never forget that moment.
2. Great layout and immaculate care. The holes themselves take a personality of their own. There is a lot of room for the most part, but it is in no way an easy course. Additionally, the amount of land The Jewel boasts allowed the architect seemingly infinite freedom with the design (imo). One of the best Tees I've ever played is 10, looking down at the hole with a little water waiting if you don't get that draw just right.
3. Cost. It's up there, but if this course was in the metro it'd be $80+ for twilight. It's definitely worth the money if you're a regular weekender looking for deals. Not to mention it doesn't get much play except from the members, so you're not waiting around with another group nipping at your heels.
Downside: Distance. It's off the beaten path. But in this circumstance, with the scenery and the low occupancy, it's definitely worth the drive.
Awesome! Thanks so much for your detailed review. We are so happy to hear you made the drive out to play The Jewel GC and loved the scenery and had some memorable experiences out here. We are glad you saw good value in playing here. Come back and see us again soon!
Best course in SE Minnesota for sure!!!
Played many top notch golf courses in USA & this one is one of the "Best" for sure, reasonable rates, nice staff .... You won't be sorry.

Southeast MN's Best Public Course
The Jewel is a beautiful Hale Irwin design surrounded by gorgeous bluffs and operated by one of the most generous, hard working guys in the business. A great event and tournament host, with some pretty challenging holes, this is where everyone in SE Minnesota wishes they could play every day.
Awesome! Thank you so much for reviewing our course The Jewel Golf Club. We appreciate the kind words - glad you enjoy the scenery and all that The Jewel has to offer. We can't wait to see you again real soon!
Great service; fun course!
Playing The Jewel was one of the best golf experiences that I have had in a long time! The service from the pro shop, starter, beverage cart, etc. was excellent!

Jewel
Great course. Love the layout. The course is usually in great condition. Front 9 is more open than the back. A person will do just fine if they don't spray their tee shots. Bring extra balls if you do. Tee box's, fairways and greens were in great shape.
Awesome! We really appreciate the feedback thank you for playing at The Jewel Golf Club. We're so glad you love the course, layout and conditions. Great tip for newer players! We look forward to your next visit.
Greens
Greens were plug days ago. would like to find this out before playing. Putting like a peg board.
We appreciate the feedback thank you for playing at The Jewel Golf Club. Thank you for recommending the course we will absolutely do a better job of informing and getting the word out when aerifying the greens. We hope to see you again!
the jewel
This golf course was is very good condition, and offered just the perfect amount of a challenge.
It was very disappointing about the amount of slow play that was going on. There was also no refreshment cart making rounds and on a Saturday a course of that vaule should be doing so.
Thank you for playing at The Jewel Golf Club and for taking the time to review our course. Happy to hear you enjoyed the course and found it challenging. We have informed our staff of both concerns - pace of play and refreshment cart and will address this issue. We hope you come back and enjoy another round soon! Let us know what we can do to make it a great round.
First time at The Jewel
I like the fairways and greens. It is a tough course if you don't have good control of your ball because there isn't a lot of forgiveness.
Thanks for playing at The Jewel Golf Club! We appreciate your feedback and taking the time to review our course. Glad you found the course to be challenging and we're happy to hear you liked the fairways and the greens at the course! We look forward to your next visit.
Not bad
It was a pretty wide open course, I feel. Some tight Tee shots, but if a guy can keep from spraying the ball 20 yards in either direction...you'd do well here. I shot +1 72 my first time here.
I guess I was hoping for a more challenging layout than what it is, etc. #8 was a tough green to hit. I had 160 for my approach and had to try and hit a green that is as small as a table top.
Hi there, thank you so much for taking the time to review The Jewel Golf Club. It sounds as though you're a pretty savvy golfer we'll give you the benefit of the doubt - that's an awesome score your first time around the course! Come back and master that 8th hole we can't wait to see you at The Jewel!
Jewel indeed
Beside being a little out of my driving range this course was the best golf course I have ever played period.
Thank you for playing The Jewel Golf Club! We pride ourselves in customer service and our course conditions and are glad you enjoyed yourself. Please come see us again!
