course conditions poor greens very poor disappointing

We booked to play as our course is hosting the Irish open so we had discounts arranged... I wish we never bothered.
Looked promising on the first tee then we reached the greens.
The beach doesn't have as much sand as the greens do. Completely unplayable if you hit a full driver shot it would still only roll 3 feet.

When I tried to Putt my ball was so covered in sand that there was no feeling when I hit it.
Completely unacceptable for a course that's supposed to be one of the best in county Antrim.

We won't be back and suggest you all stay clear too.
Oh and we were eaten alive by midges the whole way round but that wasn't their fault

On arrival told course was closed. No prior warning or notification from either the course or golfnow that it was not opened or playable. Not impressed at the lack of information after travelling some distance to try out this course that is talked about regularily.

A really enjoyable course for golfers of all levels with excellent value for money .
Well presented despite difficult times with Covid and I fully recommend playing it .

The last four holes are special. Nestled at the Lough's edge makes for some picturesque tee shots and a micro-climate of choppy winds.
Thoroughly enjoyable course. Greens in excellent condition.
Plenty of intrigue throughout and not too many holes alike. Only downfall is not a signature par 3 of note.
Still on the right side of 4.5 out of 5.

Fairways and greens firm even at this damp time of year which was very surprising.
Love the layout of this course.. Not to strenuous and lots of furr trees minimising your chance of losing a ball at this time of year as alot of other courses gather leaves. If you're looking for an enjoyable round and a good possibility of a decent score then hit Massereene.

Really enjoyed my round today! Some nice Dog Legs and bunkers to avoid and speed of play was good. A group of ladies in a 4 ball let two of us play through without an issue.
Fairways good and Forgiving but greens were a little slow sandy. Will play again for £18 on Golf Now.
Definitely a lovely experience with wildlife lively at this time of year also.

Poor standard of greens, very sandy, divot and pitch marks on greens not repaired, very patchy. Some tee boxes uneven under foot. Setup decent.

Course was in poor shape from the last time I played it... Greens were in terrible condition, long grass on tee boxes and cut crass lying on fairways and rough... Improved slightly the further round we went but wasn't that impressed, a rare slip in standard from what is usually a beautifully presented course

Staff member in the shop said greens were sanded but still in good condition and playable. They were anything but. Played 9 holes only because the other person playing had travelled over an hour and a half to play then we couldn't play any longer. Went for a refund it was that bad but was closed.

Thought the course was great. Nice big greens and lovely fairways however the rough wasn't maintained well. Throughout the rough there was big chunks of dead cut grass just lying on the top of the rough which made it very difficult to play out of or find my ball. That was my only criticism

This course has a great layout and we enjoyed how it encourages you to plot your way around from tee to green which makes for an interesting challenge. It could be so good but unfortunately the course condition is very poor, especially the front nine. There had been no rain over night so no excuse for what we experienced. The greens were really soggy underfoot, some balls actually plugged into the greens and putts were super slow. Some holes had large imprints around the hole from previous players feet. In fairness the back nine greens were much better, firm and fast. However, The fairway grass throughout was too long and the rough was extremely penal with little to no 1st cut rough on any holes. This course could be cracker but it’s current condition nothing short of dire.

Went for 9 holes after work as the weather was lovely. Played with 3 work mates and we had a great time. Ordered food before we went out and was ready when we arrived in. Couldn't of been a better experience. Amazing views, friendly members and the course played so well.

This was a good course if they'd only have their fairways cut. We've had an early spring, it's not unreasonable with the good hard ground due to lack of rainfall that the fairways would be cut.

Great mature course with forgiving wide fairways and well-groomed greens. Unfortunately Friday morning is Ladies Competition - to be avoided by the visitor!

Throughly enjoyed our round however course can be plagued with midges in hot weather.
We played late afternoon and only downside restaurant closed at 19.15
