Rough Gem

Course is great. Greens are extraordinary. Staff just OK. Lacks a chipping and sand area and that is needed before play a course where the greens are only receptive to the perfect approach shot.

Epic management fail

This place is a disaster from A to Z. We got out 40 minutes late because there was a college tournament going on, and, hey, why did they sell us a time in between?? The college coaches, not the starter were in control. But why would anyone have any sort of tournament on this dog track? Bunkers are dirt and rocks. Greens are untrue. On a very hot day, all water barrels were empty. Ball washers too, that is why there weren't any rags to dry them with. The design is a big problem, it is tricked up and if you miss any shot, just a little, forget about it, your ball is likely lost. I have played here many times but will never play here again, there is a stench of horrible management.

You are fortunate you dealt with the kids. The grown up here are more disrespectful then them. Rarely have I seen so many unkind staff members on one golf course.

Always a great value

Tallgrass is a perfect golf venue, easy to get out, great staff, course is well maintained, great looks and fair pricing. I take friends from out of town there once a year and they enjoy the round every time.

Slow play

Slow foursome 5 1/2 hrs. round. Did not offer to let us play through saw ranger 1st time 17th hole. Golf course has no shade not playing again on a hot day. Tee boxes should have shade trees while your waiting to tee off.

Not worth the money

Paid my fee but was never told front nine holes were closed for aeration. Began to play back nine when staff tells me one hole on back nine is closed but the good news is I can play those eight holes as many times as I want oh boy. Garbage was piled up at the garbage can at every tee box the place needs a new staff asap

This could be a great course

What a disappointment, I have played this course many of times and always left with some happiness, not this time as soon as we walked in the pro shop the gentleman had a very poor attitude. The girl behind the bar same attitude. We were then told that we had to play the same 9 holes twice because they were being air ration. As we played are 9 holes two of are greens were air rated, we were told that was because they were close to the other holes. We were also told the gentleman in the pro shop had a bad attitude because he had a car accident earlier in the week. But the worse part about playing the course was the garbage on several holes I counted over 30 beer cans on and around the tee boxes, I also had taken pictures.

Had to play Back Nine Twice

Since the front nine was closed for maintenance we had to play the back nine twice. Thanks to the starter we ( a twosome) were able to start on 11 ahead of a foursome. When we came around for the second nine he was there to move us right onto the tee. Thanks to him we were able to play in just over 3 hours. Greens were okay (a little slopey). Tees need some work. Fairways were good. Overall a nice day and fast round. Will look to replay again for a full 18.

Disrespectful Course Staff

Go spend your money elsewhere. There are multiple other courses in the area where they treat the patrons like human beings. Played here in early August, headed to the range to warm up. I first noticed that there is a huge grass range but for some reason they wanted people to hit off the mats. As I made my way through my bag I realized that there weren't any tees in any of the mats. At this point the two other guys who were on the range had left and it was just me and my playing partner. So I pull out my driver and try to put a wooden tee into the mat, they have the spongy mats and I thought that might work, but this was unsuccessful. So the logical thing to do is to move forward and put the tee into the regular grass. After hitting a few drivers one of the rangers rips up in his golf cart and starts giving me a hard time about using the tee in the grass. In my attempt to explain to him my reasoning he cut me off and began making sarcastic remarks. He referenced other golfers seeing what I was doing and then copying me. At this point I looked down the range and the only customers there were me and my partner. The ranger made another snide comment and watched me put my driver back in my bag before taking off. About fifteen minutes later I was minding my business on the practice green waiting for my group to be called when that same ranger pulled up again. For some reason he felt that it was appropriate to make another snide comment directed toward me asking if I was ok now that I was no longer on the range. The course staff here have been anything but courteous to customers for many years. The golf course isn't anything special when you consider Rock Hill, Pine Hills, MICC, Cherry Creek, Great Rock, Pine Ridge, and Willow Creek. I'd much rather spend my money at a place where they appreciate my patronage.

Challenging greens

Most of the greens were fast; some more so than others. Fairways in good shape; rough can be tough. Two negative comments: sand traps are really dirt not sand and facility not geared for women--no ladies items in pro shop and restroom at end of clubhouse.

Fun and challenging

Paid $25 on Golf now for 18 holes with cart on a Friday afternoon so the price couldn't be beat. Not a lot of trees which is always a plus. Sand traps are hard and could use some work but other than that this was probably the most fun I've had in a course

Rocks in the Sand bunkers

You will definitely dent your club face hitting out of the sand. Why they have nickle size rocks in the sand bunkers on Long Island is mind numbing. Screen or rake them out please. The grass is Tall so don't hit it in there you will loose your ball. Also, watch out for the poison ivy, don't go in there.

Enjoyable round in spite of poor play

Course was a little late with tee times but moved pretty good after 5 holes. The course is one of my favorites, wide open difficult to play links style, putts are deceiving, undulation all over and then a straight putt. On this day i had trouble off the tee box, blind shots often lead to lost balls and additional numbers on scorecard. always leaves me can't waiting to get back to redeem myself.

Great course

This was my first time playing Tallgrass but I will be back soon. I am not sure if I saw one tree on the course but that definitely didn't make it easy. The Tallgrass and fescue comes into play on every hole if you are not accurate off the tee. The employee at the pro shop offered us some free range balls before our round but it was a bit disappointing that the grass range was closed and we had to use the mats.

Bunkers and greens are poor

The bunkers are in dire need of repair as most of them had very little sand and large stones in them- the two sand shots I had during the round were almost like hitting off of hard pan- the edges of the bunkers were also unkept and looked like they hadn't been edged in a long time. The greens were bumpy and was tough to get a true roll on many of them- I've seen the course in better shape in years past and our group felt the $85 for Saturday golf was unjustified
