The Hills are alive!

So, the issue is if your not prepared for a course where every hole is dramatically downhill ot uphill , you going to in big trouble.... really hard with wind and elevation changes to pick the right club, and first timers like myself have very little idea of club selection to hazards (either short or to carry).... large greens in great shape, difficult to putt long range. This will take several playings to learn the nuances of this course.

Excellent Golfing Experiance

I have played this course twice now and it was much more enjoyable the second time. If you have a rangefinder bring it!!! Lots of elevation changes and some of the holes are target golf. To me this course is like a good concert. It starts off with the opening act(first four holes) comes out nervous and bombs the first song(hate the first hole). But then settles down and gets better. The main act is the back 9. To me it flows better and is more pleasing to the eye. I would not walk this course unless you are training for a marathon.

Slowest round and service ever

Fun course, but slow. 12:15 tee time and didn't tee off until 12:45. 30 mins to get a sandwich and 20 mins for a credit card to be processed. Didn't finish until 6:30. Make sure you don't have anywhere to be if you are going to play here.

greens will challenge you

Challenging but fun course. magnificent location overlooking east and north LA couny. Condiions are excellent, especially the greens which were tricky. Some pin placements were risk/reward. Too fast and you will see your ball run another five to fifteen feet. I am definitely returning because I'll shave 5 to 6 strokes off my score from having more knowledge about those greens.

Best value

The course is in good condition. Greens are fast and tricky. Weather is hot and gets windy in the afternoon. Great view! Very challenging. Needs good course knowledge for blind shots. Will play it again in winter.

A Must Play Course

Vellano is a true jewel. Sitting high (at some points very high) above the Chino Hills, this course is a scenic beauty.

The variety of the layout is simply amazing. Challenging but manageable.

Most friendly golf staff you will ever find.

An absolute must play.

Poor Amenities

Course was in decent shape, although many dry spots on fairways. Greens were in good shape, hard to read. Pace of play poor ...teed off at 12:15 pm, we played 15 holes and it was 5 pm when we had to squit to go catch a plane at LAX. It would have taken another hour to play the final holes. It was 95 degrees and beverage cart only at one hole on front nine, noting on back nine at all. Stations where there were ice machines and cold water did NOT work. Only a water fountain like the kind you seen at a school. They would have cleaned up on concessions if they had sent her around the course several times. Some holes difficult to tee over the junk, need to carry a ravine or two...average golfer would have a tough time. Rate the experience a C.

This was amazing

This course is wonderful. The ONLY suggestion I would make is to improve signing on the course cart paths and guides to the next tee.

Vellano CC experience

My nephew and I really had a wonderful time. The course is challenging but fair if you play it wisely. I definitely want to play it again and have recommended it to my friends already.

The Golf Dr

This course caught me by surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed the nice tight fairways, which I found quite often. This course is a typical country club requiring 3 wood from most tees with wedges in. If you are not on the proper tier or near the pin you may find it difficult. I had a 96 foot putt on #13. Hard to get near these pins and if you spin the ball like I do then you may find yourself in front with the pin back, or off the front entirely. All in all a fun day and pretty much had it to myself.

Course to play

The course was excellent with wide fairway as well as some tight fairway presenting challenges for target golf. I love the gold tee boxes which presented the long and difficult par threes. Bring your putting game because the greens are fast and slow making it hard to gauge the speed of the greens. Great course.

Tough Course

Not a forgiving course. Definitely has to have your A game from tee to green. Not a good course to relax and enjoy a round.

Good luck

The first hole is a short par 4 and wow that green is torn up. As the holes get longer and tougher, the greens are in a little better shape but they were not rolling that great. The greens appeared to have been punched a few weeks ago though. The last time I played here in October, the greens were sanded (two putt maximum helps on these greens). The greens are tough to read as the course is on a hillside. I couldn't make any putts. Sadly I don't think I've experienced the course to it's full potential. The "Iron" tees are not put out and some tee boxes are weird. I played from the golds and let my guard down.
My only complaint really is the greens. The course has the feel of Pelican Hill. They should be easy with wide open fairways and big greens, but the slopes can really give you a hard time. There are also nice canyons with a lot of shade.

This is a rambling review, sorry. The pro shop was pretty cool. Most places don't give you full respect if you are a golfnow/Hotdeal customer but they drive you to the putting green, and pick you up when it's time to tee off. Pace of play on a Wednesday 12:00 was great. I finished in about 2 and a half hours as a single.
I will look to play again in a few weeks to see if the greens are 100% Super fun course with some gorgeous par 3's, just don't lose your swing in the wind.

Gem in the Inland Valley

Beautiful course. The day we were there the course was empty and the pace of play was great. The greens were just getting back into shape after its summer punch, so they were not rolling true, but the course is in good shape.

This place just keeps getting worse

Wouldn't let our threesome grab a cart to practice chipping and putting before we went out. Made us walk to the putting area and told us chipping area was for members only or if we purchased range balls. We only got there 30 min before tee time so just wanted to chip and putt for warm up. Fairways too hard to compress the ball and have control. Ideal for people used to hitting off mats and playing cheaper golf courses..

Love this course

My buddies and I play this course frequently and love the challenges and frustrations that goes with playing it. We all love the layout of each hole and is truly a favorite for many of my fellow coworkers. The greens are huge and have their own set of challenges to say the least. I think the greatest thrill will come when one of us can play the entire course without losing a ball... Everything about Vellano keeps us coming back for more... it keeps us humble. After a good round we always enjoy the friendly badgering between ourselves in the club house that shortly followso a few cool down drinks.... cheers !!!
