Wide open
Jackie ,at the club house was wonderful ,friendly and so helpful . First time playing there , the course is beautiful will definitely come back
Truly felt like a day in Soctland
50 degrees, wind blowing 25+ mph across the lake, whitecaps on the water. It felt like we were on the Firth of Forth in Scotland! Two notes before my actual review - 1) The bird life and activity was incredible - Northern Harriers, Red-Tailed Hawks, some gulls, kestrels, and even a bald eagle. We watched the Harriers corner and kill some rodents in a field. 2) Why does the Tribute use a picture from Old American GC on this website?
Course was in great shape. Greens were true and quick. The wind made them even harder as the ball blew off course quite a few times. Dormant rough made course easier. Bunkers were solid and consistent. The new greens were as good as advertised. The winds slowed play down a bit but we still finished in 4:20. I think the cold and wind made some of the staff stay inside - no bag drop, cart boys, or back 9 cart girls. This is a fun course to play made even better by the conditions mirroring Scotland on this day. In my opinion, this is fun to do at least a few times. I was actually glad to see the wind and hit some different shots. 110 yard 5 irons one direction and 180 yard 9 irons in the other.
If you have never played here - all holes are replicas of Scotland and British Isle courses. LInks golf (or close to it), big greens, tall grasses, and tiny flagsticks. A must for good golfers playing in DFW.
A nice course
The course was nice for a February day. Grass was a bit dormant and yellow but that did not ruin anything. Greens were firm and rolled pretty true.
I enjoyed the day and would go back.
Just like Scotland?
The Tribute is an excellent course. Nice facility. Nice people.
As you'd expect, some of the magic of the holes being recreated is lost. It's hard to recreate a scenic, oceanside par 3 in the middle of Texas. However, being by a lake helps add a little extra beauty.
The day we played it was quite windy, and that helped put some teeth in the course. I suspect on a calm day this course would play fairly easy, but throw in some breeze and some holes get pretty long and tough. I've not played authentic Scottish links, but my impression from watching the Open is that the same is true over there.
When you get down to it, the course was in great shape, great price, and you at least get a little hint of what those great Open courses play like. It's absolutely worth a visit.
Cold Weather Didn't Impact this course
After days of below freezing temps our foursome played this course and it was in incredible shape. The greens were in the best shape we could have asked for. The staff was helpful and courteous. Even the Marshalls we're nice when asking us to speed up because we teed off late. Worth the $70 on GolfNow!
Best greens around....
These are probably the best greens that I have played on in DFW this year. Great course and the staff was much friendlier then last time I was out here. Highly recommend playing this track!
They Charge You
If you have someone drop out of your group or cancel your tee time, the course charges you. I talked to the Director at the course, Cliff, and he said it's their policy.
The course is in great shape. Greens roll true.
Buyer beware if someone doesn't show up in your group or you cancel your tee time, they charge you.
Have to play once
So the conditions were great..you hav to play this course once to experience the old school links style of golf...we also did a replay which cost more than our hot deal originally...they are a little too proud of there course the real pricing isn’t outragous for greens that don’t hold and no gps on the carts for $100 I don’t think so but if you find it on hotdeal and haven’t played it before defiantly give it a try...
Great links course
The Tribute is a great course. Wide undulating fairways, cut really short, which makes great conditions for your approach shots. Greens are fast and in great shape. This is a really fun course to play.
Great Course Slow Olay
Had a great time playing The Tribute as it was challenging and in great shape. Had lunch before the round in the club house and the meal and service we good. The only complaint was that it was a FULL 5 hour round because of slow okey and how busy it was. I guess that is to be expected on a good course, so be prepared if you go on the weekend. I’d play it again!
Excellent Conditions (play your shots short)
The course was in great shape. The green are extremely fast, and roll true. You won't need your divot repair tool, as the new green will not stick. All shots have to be played short, as even your 60 degree wedge will release 5-10 feet. And on these greens it could result in a one put turning into a three or four putt.
First Time on the New Greens
This was my first time to play The Tribute since the new Bermuda greens went in. They're outstanding! I'm glad to see that so many courses are finally figuring out that Bent Grass greens just aren't a great idea in Texas. I was surprised to find the greens as firm and fast as they were, only a few weeks after the course re-opened. Play it soon - before the Bermuda goes dormant.
Great Course Horrible Blaring Music
That blaring cocophony, which someone thought was music was the only poor thing about the experience. Music can destroy ambience. If you feel the need to blare something out over the speakers at least make something other than screaming noise. It is destroying one of the great golf experiences I have always looked forward to for many years.
Pace of play makes it not worth it
Course is in great condition and it's really fun. HOWEVER, There is no marshal and the pace of play was the worst I have ever seen. I didn't even get to finish my round because it got dark. If I had finished it would have taken 6 hours maybe more. Will not pay to play at this course again. Would not recommend to avid golfers, I only saw beginners.
Course in good shape BUT
The greens and course where in very good shape. Greens are firm but with good maintenance will become much improved over time. What was very disappointing was to pay $139 with little to no service. We played on a hot day during the heat of the day and they had only one cart girl for the entire course. We only saw her twice during a five hour round of golf. No Marshals were present and we saw the General Manager one time who drew the wrong conclusion for slow play. We had two three -somes in our group and constantly waited on a foursome the entire day. They were part of a larger group. On the tenth hole we let them get some distance because quite frankly we were tired of waiting on them. The General Manager showed up with an attitude and after a heated discussion we did not see him for the entire back nine. This is one of my favorite courses in the Dallas Metro-plex but many time during the round I almost said to myself that I will not be back. It was definitley a screw job on the expense/customer service did not warrant that kind of fee. It will be sometime before I decide to come back. Other courses are a better value at 1/4 of the cost in Dallas.
