Course in good shape
They are renovating their clubhouse currently so there are no bathrooms. Course is in good shape though
Decent course just over priced
Not a bad course just overpriced and should be a little less expensive for the value especially during the renovations right now overall the staff was very friendly. I didn’t get a chance to complete my round due to inclement weather instead of a full rain check. I was given a partial rain check based on the amount of holes I played in my opinion they should’ve honor the entire 18.
An overpay for Father's day
Overall, well kept course, not much to speak of as far as the views. Fun track to play with buddies who are decent enough to put it in play.
Greens were in decent shape but were a little long
Biggest 2 complaints:
1. Overpriced for the lack of club house and unwillingness to give us cart keys until 10 minutes before round (under construction) Had to walk to and from driving range with my $8.00 15 ball (small) bucket
2. Greens simply have NO break... would read a 2 cup breaker and be exactly 2 cups out every single time. read a few 6-10 footers and never even rotated my line on my ball... Not talking trash but equivalent to a "Lake Park" green just with more deceptive undulations that don't actually have any effect on the ball path...
I'd give it a 6/10 for the money.
I will NEVER play this course again. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
I am a seasoned golfer and play 2-3 times a week, mostly at different courses so I can get a change of scenery and not get sued to any one course. With this, I get to experience a vast array of customer service at many different golf courses. I decided rather late at night to play golf on Sunday and selected this course because it had an opening at a time I wanted. I was a little reserved about playing here because I have had bad experiences in the past, but I was willing to give it another shot. Strike 1 against me - this was my own fault.
When arriving at the course, I was the first of the group to get there, so they pro shop gave me a cart and instructed me that one of the others would have to join me. I was a single joining a group of 3. No problem on my end.
When teeing off, the Marshall (older man with jet black hair) was very rude in the tone of voice and barking orders at me.
The group of 3 arrived and had 2 carts - giving us 3 carts.
The Marshall walked over and very coarsely instructed the other single to either ride with me, walk or he couldn't play. The other golfer indicated he was just getting over strep and would rather ride alone, so he wouldn't give me a virus and would prefer not to walk.
The Marshall argued and eventually sent out the manager on duty. He too took a hard line that it's club policy that only 2 carts are allowed per 4 players.
No consideration for the health of myself or the other golfer were given or acknowledged what so ever.
We all drove off to start the round in the 3 carts.
On hole #3, the General Manager AND a Frisco Police Officer drove out to the fairway to confront the other single golfer and again - with no consideration of his health instructed the golfer to either ride with me (thus putting into jeopardy my health) or he could walk or leave the course.
I have NEVER heard of a course treating someone like this. If this is the way the management at Frisco Lakes treats their patrons, they will not get another single cent from me.
If you don't allow 3 golf carts - DON'T GIVE US 3 GOLF CARTS - plain and simple! Look to your employees.
And by all means - HAVE A FREAKING HEART!!!
Pleasant but needs some attention
Overall experience was good but not great.
Clubhouse must be getting completely renovated because the “Proshop” was temporarily in the cart barn.
The range was closed without explanation for why.
Play started on 10 which isn’t a big deal but a bit disconcerting when unexpected.
Most conditions were okay. Quite a few bare spots on fairways likely from winter freezes were evident. Sand traps were more disappointing since none had been groomed at all. Sand was wet and compacted so many shots actually ran through the sand without even showing an impact point.
While the price point would be satisfactory for the course if conditions were at their best, it’s always disappointing when a premium course delivers an unexceptional product.
MAJOR COMPLAINT: For a course surrounded by an immense housing community, it should be expected to have several restrooms on each 9. If you don’t want golfers “peeing off” in the trees, add at least a few portapotties!
I’ll certainly play it again because the course layout is enjoyable, but I may wait several more months to see if the conditions improve.
Great place to play
Love this course. Greens were great. Course is challenging but not punishing (mostly). The clubhouse is being refurbished, so facilities are a little limited, but that doesn’t take away from a great course.
Great course but...
I love the course and layout but $115? Really? The staff was awesome but they STILL have porta-potties months and months later from a previous round. For a post round drink you have to sit outside with no sun protection. The course was nice but definitely not worth $115. I guess with so few courses up in Frisco they can charge whatever they want but I played a Garland muni today that was just as nice for less then half the price and their clubhouse was superb. I may return when the renovations are complete but at that price, it's a big if.
Used to be so good. For the current price - it’s just ok.
Seems like everytime I play Frisco Lakes, there’s at least one thing about it that causes me to say, “I can’t believe they’re charging $80-115 for this!” Love the layout. Some fun holes on this course. But conditions are not always optimal. As was the case playing it a few days ago - fairways were still a bit dead and greens were just punched a week or so ago (so putts didn’t roll true). I remember when this was course was consistently well maintained and much cheaper - it was one of my favorites in the North suburbs DFW area.
Decent course
For cost should really note when greens are punched. Would not have paid $89 knowing this. Also fairways are rock hard and bunkers in poor shape.
Do not book this course.
I played this course for the last 4 years. 4 years ago it was 60-70 dollars to play, excellent shape, Marshall moving slow players up holes, and great greens. It has gotten so bad, and are charging people 115 dollars to play here. The ONLY thing about this course that is above average is the layout. Everything else will disappoint you. Do not waste your money or your time.
Brutal
Amazing they can even fleece people for $110 on the weekends.
This is a $50 value course in my opinion.
Horrible conditions everywhere on this course.
Loved it - pace was real slow
Loved the weather loved the course layout loved the pairing with another player loved the fairways greens were punched so would’ve enjoyed even more if I played at a different time once the greens are in better condition. Will play again but a bit expensive for my game.
Staff is horrible, price outrageous.
First few times I played the course was great, I've got their monthly membership deal, but it's been going downhill ever since I got it. The course itself is in rough shape, they overbook so pace of play is always slow, you'll see the cart girl twice if your lucky after a 5-6 hour round, on top of all of that the staff at the pro shop are just plain rude. The last time I went on a Wednesday during the day and brought my girlfriend who doesn't play and they had plenty of carts to choose from. I asked if I could pay a rider fee so me and her could have a cart, which other places around accommodate. Not this place, I was scolded by them how it's policy to not allow it and that they are far too busy at my laughable request. I will be cancelling my monthly membership and not going back, there are plenty of other courses in the area not charging $115 to play at a mediocre municipal course. Save your money and go play Trails of Frisco.
Over priced
Paying $115 for this course is ridiculous. The course layout is really nice. I enjoy it but you’re better off hooking it into the ruff so at least you have a grass to hit out of because the fairways are dirt. The last two times I have played there we had a 2 putt max because the greens were in such bad shape, there are spots with no grass. It was just dirt or squares of sod that the ball would completely change direction on if you put a crossed it.
Great Pace of play
Even though, I feel the course was over booked, the marshals kept the pace of play moving. Well Done.
Baked out dog track
Every lie is playing off bare dirt with flat, dormant grass. It’s better to play from “rough.” Two-thirds of bunkers are literally raked clay. Tee boxes are bare dirt or sand. It’s a travesty they charge $85 for that goat track.
Good layout.
This course has good layout. The Marshall at the first hole is rude, but the others seemed friendly. The pace of play is horrendous. Seems to be a common theme around here. Having to wait after every hole is quite ridiculous.
