Narrow hole that you can't even tell is a golf course if it wasn't for the tee boxes. Photo submitted by Sean8819622 on 07/24/2016

I guess the hole design was bad enough that you can't use clubs you have. So bad. Photo submitted by Sean8819622 on 07/24/2016

approach on back 9 par 5 (forgot which hole, sorry) Photo submitted by Nathan6632171 on 07/13/2014
Very rough shape.
I was really disappointed with the condition of this course. Fairways were exceptionally patchy, the greens were so slow that it was impossible to hit putts too hard, and the tee boxes were chewed up and covered in crab grass. With that said, pace of play was great and the course rewards accurate shots.
course in bad shape
Got tee time on golf now $23.00 . Got there and was told cart path only because of wet fairways. well it was not wet the fairways were bare had to find grass to hit on. Greens were in terrible shape. not a good place to play right now
Use to be a nice course
Sorry to give this course such a bad review, but I use to play in a league here and that was 2 years ago. This was my first time back and I was shocked how bad it has become. Hopefully they will turn it around, because right now it is pretty bad, except for a few holes.
Poor condition Overall
Well the course is a tough course & very low margin for errors. Having said that I was a single & I finished the round under 3 1/2 hours because there was no traffic. The reson for that being the poor condition of the course in general. The teeboxes are in poor shape. Many fairways are in poor shape including some greens. The day I played it was cart path only which is not fun in 100 Deg weather. All in all I was not happy about playing there. I would avoid this course with a barge pole.
Course is OK, hole 14 is under construction more than a year, expect finished soon
Course is in fair condition, but most greens need a lot attention
ROCKS, WEEDS
My wife and I booked a 3:10 tee time, at check in, we were asked to have the cart in by 6 o'clock??? That started things off with a sour taste...Oh yea did I mention CART PATH ONLY for less than a 3hr. round by less than pro golfers??? Back to the course, the greens had" Weeds" on them, bunkers no sand just Rocks, not pebbles, yes Rocks and more Weeds... We got around to #13 after we let 2 different singles thru, its 5:36, here comes marshall to remind us to have the cart in by 6...need I say more. Yes we did get rainchecks but who wants to waste time at a dog track, rock quarry. What happened to this once Challenging, Demanding local course from 2yrs ago ??????
Fun Course!
I play Cross Creek at least one every few weeks, and I love it. It's not the longest course in the world but its challenging. It has some tight holes and difficult fairways. The staff is always amazing, and you can't beat the value through golfnow. Highly recommended.
Average course for Average price
Course conditions are typically better than this round.
Challenging but not terrible
We only got to play 9 holes because it started to rain right as we made the turn (thanks for GolfNow for the full refund!) but the course is very difficult if you cant keep your ball in the fairway. They are thin and slanted and there's not much room to miss without going OB. We lost a ton of balls in just 9 holes. The course was a bit quirky in the layout and can be frustrating at times.
I'd play again for the 25 bucks (well free because of the rain) just bring extra balls.
fun and challenging
However, the grass in the rough is way too high, making a relatively easy out onto the fairway more difficult than necressary. All four players in the party complained about this the entire 18 holes.
Timing
Overall impression at first is positive. Due to recent rains the rough on first few holes hadn't been mowed resulting in severe US open like conditions. The result was lost balls and too much time looking for them. Being a narrow course and being a hacker proved to be frustrating. Once we got to the holes that had been mowed it became much more playable. Arriving at 14 which is supposed to be a par 4 we found it under construction and had been turned into a temporary par 3. Nothing was mentioned when we checked in about this. We got a deal at 18.00 so it was a decent value. At 35.00 the normal rate it wouldn't be such a great deal. The course has potential once the above issues are resolved.
good little course, requires some to be finished on a couple of holes
Friendly staff, needs some work on 14. It is not an overly difficult course, is fair.
Distance control is paramount
I've played this course four or five times in the past couple of years. If you can hit it straight but don't have serious distance, you'll love this course. If anything it penalizes long hitters who cannot control distance, sometimes with traps, but more often with water or out of bounds areas that are not accessible. If you don't consistently hit it straight, bring a dozen balls. I usually play at U of Md which is longer. I like Cross Creek because I can actually hit all the greens in regulation if I hit it straight....at U of MD several par 4 holes are unreachable in 2 for me... Golfnow had deals between $20 and $25 with a cart, less than the senior walking rate at U of MD (which is what I usually do). There was some, to me inexplicable, stressed grass at Cross Creek, given the reasonably wet and cool Spring....they do have irrigation, so not sure why. But it did not affect play.
Decent Layout, Neglected Conditions
This isn't a bad course in principle There are some interesting holes that require good shot-making. I got an afternoon deal for $19 so I figured I couldn't go wrong. It's early June, however, and the fairways are already burning out. The sand traps don't have sand in them and do have rocks (I am a stickler for the rules but I even gave myself a practice swing in the first bunker because I wasn't sure whether my club could penetrate the surface.) At the moment the 14th hole does not exist because it was superseded by the recently constructed ICC. They have a chipping mat next to the green, not a real hole. It didn't help that we had a glacial foursome in front of us. The marshal came by but he never solved the problem. That said, if you just want to hit some interesting shots and you have an afternoon, go for it. I wouldn't go out of my way, however.
The 14th whole is still not playable due to the ICC but should be in decent shape by next year.
Cross Creek is a good warm up for play on other courses. Keeping the ball in play here will prime you for more forgiving courses. The greens were a bit shaggy (due to recent rain) and some of the fairways are in trouble, despite recent rain. The 14th whole is still not playable due to the ICC but should be in decent shape by next year. The 37% discount made this a value but this isn't high on my must recommend courses.
Super Challenging and Great Value
This course was a nice find for us. The layout is super tight and almost unfair in some spots but it makes you want to come back and give it another shot. This course requires smart play and well thought out shots. Leave the driver in the bag. Overall we really enjoyed this course and plan to come back again. For $30 after 3 pm you just can't beat it.
Poor Customer Service and Course Conditions
We were wondering why there were many open tee times when we booked on Sunday as there were on Memorial Day and now we know why. The young man in the clubhouse was a pleasant surprise as he stopped helping us to help someone on the phone, but could've very easily rung in our group and talked on the phone at the same time. No apologies before or afterward.
Moving to the starter. He refused to let us put a bag on our cart even though we were the next group off until he said so. He asked us how many people we had and we said 3. he replied back that only 2 people have paid so how many people are there? (the 3rd was paying as we spoke to him). he took the key out of the cart until our other playing partner came back and showed him the receipt. After that he explained to us that the carts are powerful and the way we were trying to start the carts were wrong.
Onto the course! We started off on the first hole waiting as 3 groups were on the tee and another 2 were in the fairway. Two groups in front of us started early as they were supposed to tee off behind us!
The pace of play was sad and people were not playing ready golf and were driving to each other's ball and waiting to hit even though they were directly across from each other most of the time.
The ranger didn't seem to care about this at all. He yelled at us several times that we must keep the carts in the fairway only or on the path. WHY WAS THIS? The rough was filled with crabgrass, weeds, and clover. hasn't been cut in weeks by the look of it.
Ranger didn't care about pace of play when we spoke with him about it only saying there isn't anything we can do but said we need to keep the carts in the fairway or the path do not park on or near the rough.
Adding insult to injury, the 14th hole which was 450 yards, was changed to 162 yards. OR SO WE THOUGHT. instead they had a temporary hole which was a 20 yard chip shot off of a driving range mat. There was not disclaimer-asterisk when booking the tee time or mentioning of this when YOU CHECKED IN AT THE PRO SHOP. a 20 yard chip shot for a hole on a pro course is a slap in the face by the management!
This place should check in to hiring friendlier staff and better management. It's falling apart from the days when the LPGA played there.
Great course
Went here as a cheaper alternative to DC area golf prices and was blown away by the quality. It's a short course but very tight and somewhat challenging. The traps could use a little attention and possibly some new sand; however, overall the course is great with a lack of divots and very clean greens.
For the money, this is a great course.
Save your money
Poor layout, greens are in poor condition, I won't ever go back..
Tight course in certain areas. must be on your game at all times.
Your short game comes into play all over the course. It is also forgiving in places. Excellent course lay out. Nice amenities
