Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest
About
Opened in 2010, it did not take Cape Fear National at Brunswick Forest long to be ranked as one of the "top 10 best courses you can play in North Carolina" by Golfweek. It was quite a feat to create a course that stood out in an area known for its exceptional golf, but designer Tim Cate mastered the challenge. Although it was carefully carved through acres of forest, the trees don't play much of a role on the course. Sand and water will be the most formidable challenges on this links layout. Golfers can expect forced carries over native marshes and massive waste bunkers strategically placed throughout. There are challenges in store for players of all skill levels but Cape Fear National is also a fair and straightforward test with no hidden hazards.

great track
Well maintained and nice track to play. Played here earlier in the year when it was very cold, windy and extremely wet. much better and soon to be great. Greens were smooth, hard and fast. Tough but enjoyable Nice practice area. Restaurant was not open until later.
Great Servicd
Unfortunately unable to play due to the weather but the management company was very helpful and extended us a refund (instead of rain checks) as we are not from the area. Appreciated their service and have heard nothing but great things about the course.
Great course!!!
Overall a amazing course!! Course is absolutely beautiful and I was playing in a light rain after 3 days of pretty heavy rain, and the course still played well. Layout of the course has a ton of risk vs reward opportunity’s that will challenge you every hole. End state, play this course if you are in town and you won’t regret it.
Wind, Water & Sand
Cape Fear! I finally started the year off by scratching another top 50 off the list. This will be a short review. However, this is one of the best kept courses I've ever seen, during the winter.
Brunswick Forest has a lot of sand and a lot of water. It felt like water was in play almost every hole. Sand? Plenty of that as well and it is quality sand, not hard, rocky or compact. The wind during our round was a serious factor. This course ate me up. I had a 58 on the front. That's where the conversation ends. I seriously have to get lessons, because I am struggling with my grip and swing path.
P.s. I walked the entire course, which was over 5 miles I think. Baller-To-Bogey!
Awesome course
Highly, highly recommended this course. Staff was great, course is spectacular and the practice areas are special. My only complaint, and this is incredibly small is the grass on the tee boxes was a little long, probably do to the rainy weather making it tough to hit certain shots. Like I say, this is so minor as too many courses have no grass on their tee boxes. Regardless, a must play while in the area. Also guess I thought the $110 was a tad steep but oh well.
great time..
course is in terrific shape.. beautiful, fairways and greens. staff super friendly.
Great course. Cool layout
Very challenging but fair course. Excellent condition and a cool layout
great course
1st, the bad. The driving range and the restaurant were closed and it was a bit cold. Was able to go to the Farmhouse Kitchen nearby, excellent. Course conditions were a bit wet due to the annual deluge of the East coast and we were cart path only. Very much enjoyed the course. Great semi links course and layout. Very good conditions considering. Will definitely play again.
Lovely day!
Other than my 3 wood snapping on my first swing of the day on 1 (still not sure how lol) the day couldn’t have gone better. Beautiful day, great layout, and in really nice shape for the end of November. Helps that I shot a personal best 79 but I would recommend this course to anyone. Staff was super friendly as well! 10/10
awesome course! Sad conditions.
I came with very high expectations due to the reviews.
This is one of the most beautiful layouts I have played on. Upon arrival we were told cart path only due to recent over-seeding----fine---but they didn't tell us that recent over- seeding meant that they are over - watering. Even the tees were a sloshing mess to go along with plugged drives on most holes. The greens were super nice.
If you are a avid golfer this may not be the course for you since peeps playing may be on the beginner side and pace of play is slow.
This is a great looking course, but I did not enjoy my round due to the over watering and pace of play.
Challenging Layout, expensive
While we enjoyed the course and found it challenging, it was very wet and nearly unplayable on the day we were there. I'm very surprised at how poorly the course drains, given it's relatively new age. For the money and considering the conditions (discounted to $66 via an app) it seemed overpriced. Their normal greens fees are the highest in the area and they do not offer a discount for seniors or local residents. As a result most of the golfers in our 40 person weekly group do not play there unless they can find a special rate. I would like to play the course when it is not soaking wet.
Target golf
We have a good day here. Staff where ok, more accommodating to members then the general public.
Definitely a thinking course, holes seem longer to the eye than they really are. Need to be accurate off the tee. Overall a good course. Will play again now I understand the layout of the course.
