Course was in great shape
This course was in excellent condition. It is one of the nicest courses I have ever played. With 3 sets of 9 holes it offers great variety and the scenery of the surrounding landscape including downtown Boston was breathtaking!
Nice Course - Slow Pace
If you live in the Boston area then this might be one of the best courses around. Pace of the play was very slow (4hr 30m for the round). You really need to hit your ball in the fairways, otherwise the chances of losing your ball are very high around the edges. We played Granite and Quincy (9holes each). Granite is relatively nicer and more challenging. However it has many, many blind spots. Quincy is more straight forward but not less challenging. Overall a very nice place.
Best course near Boston
only 10-15 min from downtown Boston. Granite is a great course with 27 holes, great scenery and golf and solid practice facility. Rack rates are pricey at $150 though.
Beautiful Skyline Views
Overall a great experience, with great views of the Boston skyline and the harbor. Course is challenging but fair and in very good shape after this past winter. Highly recommended if you're in town and looking to get out and play.
Windy, Cold, but FUN
This is my first time playing Granite Links and I got a $65 twilight rate on GolfNow. I booked a 4:40p start, but due to an tournament finishing early, I was on the first tee at 4:20.
When I arrived the weather was really going downhill. It was about 55 degrees and a 30 mph wind when I stood on the first tee.
The Pro-Shop is really in another league compared to other courses in the area. Quality merchandise at fairly typical prices. Nice selection of new name brand clubs and balls. Staff in the pro shop was courteous, nothing
2 putting greens were large with a nice look out over the golf course. Driving range was closed. It is early in the season, but the putting greens and some of the greens on the golf course do have poa annua. I would expect that to be mostly gone by July. But it is a cold weather grass and hard to control this early in the season.
The golf course from tee to green is in fantastic shape. Everything is well manicured and justifies their high greens fees this close to Boston. Greens were a little slow, but manageable. Being my first time playing the golf course, I surely lost a few strokes in lack of course knowledge. Restrooms out on the golf course were nice.
The golf course isn't inherently difficult, but due to the wind I found myself in some precarious positions. MANY very short par-4's and short par-5's. Looking back I should have been teeing up from the blacks the whole day as I think the blue tees were forward for the outing. I found myself with many sand wedge and lob wedge approaches into greens, leading to birdies where I felt like I wasn't challenged. Many bunkers, all raked with beautiful white sand. Really a beautiful golf course with great views.
Carts were new in great shape.
Overall - I think the $65 twilight rate is a good deal. You get a great golf experience extremely close to Boston.I don't think I would pay $125, however. Needless to say, they aren't having trouble getting people on the tee for that price. I am going to return when the weather is much better for sure.
Great links, poor pace
I played this yesterday for the very first time and was very impressed with the views actual course conditions. My only negative was the very slow pace of play. Not once did I see a course ranger out monitoring the pace. It was not unusual to wait 10 to 15 minutes at each hole for the group ahead to play. 18 holes took 4h35min.
Can't beat the views
Granite Links has always been one of my favorite layouts in the state. The views of the Boston skyline are unmatched. The conditions were very good, although the greens weren't as fast as I'd been used to here. The layout is very interesting due to the great amounts of elevation change on the property. However, because of the elevation changes you end up with some blind tee shots so you'll need to play the course a few times to really get a feel for how to play it.
Granite Links Deal
Quirky course which requires a good amount of course knowledge. The conditions are usually good when it is not windy. If you can catch a deal on Golf Now then play here at least once. Driving range, 2 putting greens, and carts with GPS help you with your game. Have fun!
