Great Day average course
Course was in good shape, but greens aerated and sanded.
good staff
Got off to a good start when staff called me by name when I arrived...but I wish golf now or staff would have warned me that the greens were going to be sandy..made for a frustrating scoring day..
maintenance
Management need to communicate. Annual greens maintenance was being performed with heavy send over all greens. Nowhere did the pro shop or management have any signage letting players know that the greens where barely playable. they could've at least put a notice up on the front door. There attitude was take the Money and run.
Notifications please
Everything was fair to good but it would have been nice to know the greens were punched and sanded.
Course layout
Played the back 9 before work. Course has fun layout and good pace of play.
Challenging Layout but poorly maintained course
I know California is in a drought so it may be unfair to judge this course on the poor conditions on the fairway. Most fairways were dry and brown. On the up side, the greens were "green" and rolled nicely.
The last time I played the course was in 2010 so I didn't remember the course lay-out. The scorecard didn't have a course layout and the tee box market didn't have a hole lay-out so it was challenging to know which side of the fairway to target with the many dog-legged holes.
Plus there were several areas (between fairways) where they were apparently drilling or digging. Lots of construction equipment, fencing, and dirt instead of grass. It really took away from the course ambiance.
This is being really picky but the tee box yardage didn't match the scorecard. The course used to be based on black, gold, silver and green tees (per the tee box markers) but it seems it has been re-rated to black, blue, white and red (per the score card).
Also, no yardage marker other than 150 yds and no refreshment cart offered on a warm Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, water is available at multiple locations on the course.
This course is across the street from the SF 49ers stadium so beware of stadium events (games and concerts) that will impact local traffic.
Average course.
OK... There was a concert that night at the stadium across the street and we could hear the equipment test across the entire course. Also, streets were closed making access a real pain. It's been a while since I played there but the last time I played was before the stadium was complete and the course was in pretty good shape. The nine holes near the clubhouse were in VERY sorry shape this round. Mainly because I understand that area is used to park cars for some stadium events. The nine that are away from that area (6, 7 & 11-17) are fine. Because of that, I think the rates have become a bit on the unreasonable side. It normally gets very windy out there near the bay on summer days but it was not nearly as windy as it could have been the day I was out there. So I lucked out there. I would recommend only if you found a really good deal.
Pick another course
Pro shop put a five some out on the course. They were slow players. Golfers stacked up behind like an LA freeway. Marshall did nothing to address the situation. Pin placements on some holes were on ridges or severe downslopes. Fourth time on the course in the past month or so and the experience has always been good until this last outing. The course is reasonably challenging and in decent shape. The price has always been fair but this last experience is going to make me look elsewhere for my next round of golf. The folks in the golf shop should know better than to send out a five some and the marshall should be on top of them to make sure they do not hold up play. No excuse.
Great place
This course is not challenging and is great for anyone looking to have a good time.
fun but....
Pace of play was great due to the lack of water hazards. Starter was helpful. Greens were wet and some had invasive growth on them but overall okay. Many blind holes but no course map on score card nor hole lay-out on each hole. No hole directional signage between 9th & 10th hole. Had to use phone to figure out hole lay-out.
Pro shop staff tried to be helpful but had no idea where to park when Levi Stadium had an event.. Desk asked manager where we could park. Manager told us we could park in a 7-day a week two-hour zone. Given that there was a soccer game at Levi's that day, we ignored the manager.
Interesting layout, greens a bit slow and wobbly
Very slow play on a Friday late afternoon
Disgraceful
First the good: the starter was extremely nice. The restaurant at the course is pretty good. The driving range is pretty big (but not included with greens fees). Greens were in pretty good shape.
The bad: fairways, roughs, tee boxes were in terrible condition. You can lose a ball on some of these fairways (e.g. the first hole). I played on a particularly hot day, there was drinking water on every 3rd or 4th hole, but it would have been better had there been more water on the course. There was no ranger, pace of play was dreadful - 5:30 for a round. There is no dress code or decorum here - I was paired with a man wearing a tee-shirt with a marijuana leaf on it who proceeded to light up a few times throughout the round. There's no cart girl or halfway house. There's a pretty long walk between some holes - I was told it's an ok walking course - there aren't too many elevation changes on the course, but there's quite a bit of sprawl - it's really not a good walking course. Lastly, it was really tacky that they sold advertisements on their scorecard - the space could have been much better used for a layout of the course (which is available on a separate sheet of paper) - instead it's an ad for a local realtor.
I will not return - not worth playing for free let alone paying for.
Very nice track
Very challenging and super greens
Great Links style layout in poor condition
Slow, bumpy greens. Unlevel, shaggy tee boxes.
An excellent, strategic, challenging layout ruined by nearby over development.
Enjoy the overall amenities
Full service bar. Good range you hit into wind, helps to gauge shots on the course. Chipping and putting green more accurate to course greens. Course had plugged greens. Greens were long and slow. Very normal though for public courses.
Santa Clara Golf
Great pace of play, good conditions.
Lost in Paradise
We really enjoyed the course, It can be tough when you are not "right down the middle." Finding your way from hole to tee box can be challenging. Score card has no map and the directional signage is, for most holes, non-existent. The week after super bowl most of the rough was 8 to 12 inches or more. by the 25th most of the rough had been mowed to 2 to 4 inches. Fairways are mostly good but extremely bumpy, making the cart seem more like an off road 4x4. Greens were in very good condition, fast but true.
