LETS FIGHT FOR THE GREEN
I have played Santa Clara several times a year over the last 30 years. During the drought the course was plagued with dry, and dead grass and big spots of dirt. . Since the rains, the grass has greened up and its more playable. Course was in good shape, due to no play on it for last 10 days because of Super Bowl activities.
Greens were in great shape. It would be wonderful if we could keep this older traditional course in our city and not be bought out by Corporate Interest.
Lets fight to keep the Green..
Nice Course & Great Views
To start with, this course is in good condition considering the fact that they park cars on some of the fairways during football games at Levi Stadium. The greens and bunkers were in very good condition. Tee boxes could use a lot of work on some not all. The fairways for the most part were in good condition, like I said some are used for parking. Love the layout of the course, was a lot of fun to play. Breezed through in a little over 3 hours, would have been quicker but no carts on fairways this day. Has some very nice views on some of the holes. Where they park cars, hard to figure where to go on some holes. I really like this course though and will play it again. The restaurant had a lot of people in it so food and drinks must be good. I got a hot dog to go and it was very good. Had a nice outdoor area, probably great in the summertime. Good practice facilities and the only problem I would have is the price. I got a great deal on Golfnow, about $15 cheaper than what the course would charge. With some of the conditions mentioned it is not a $50. course.
You get what you pay for.
Great price for a poorly maintained course. Tee boxes in horrific condition. Poor signage between holes. Never seen so many porta-potties in a course (guessing for people who park on fairways during 49er games). Course layout is good. With proper care, this could be a really good venue.
course conditions
course had many bare spots, likely because of drought, but conditions were marginal. Perhaps with the rain, things will get better.
Nice course to play when in San José
Played here on a business trip. Course was in reasonable condition taking into account the drought. Teeboxes were in bad condition relative to the rest of the course. Greens in good to great condition.
This course has a nice layout
Course is used for game parking at 49ers games. Fairways were hard, a wet game will cause problems. Nice layout, I will play it again.
Great Course for the price!
For having cars parked on their fairways every event at Levi's...this course manages their fairways very well. Thee greens are well take care of and I only saw one bunker on the front nine that was messed. Overall this place is a fun course to play with a great view of Levi's Stadium.
Overbooked and very very slow
They overbook this course and it took us 4 hours to play 9 holes. We never finished the back 9 because we would have run out of daylight. By the way we started at 1:30. No marshal to be found until late in the day but even that wouldn't help because people were stacked up everywhere. I was told they are tearing this course down so maybe they are trying to get as much money as possible before that happens. Avoid this course unless you have all day to play 18 holes and can start at 6:00am on a Tuesday.
fair and fun
we played early so pace of play was very nice.5th group out played in 3.5 hours. Fairways were in ok condition and greens in very good conditions. Lots of suttle slopes and breaks in the greens. the ball rolled nice.
Staff was great. Very friendly. I will play again and green fee was very good for what you get.
Nice course - could do with a map on the scorecard
Great course layout with limited hazards. But could do with a couple of minor changes:
1. It's very hard to see where you go for the next hole. They should put up a few more "direction signs".
2. The signs AT the holes are fairly decent. But only seem to help you when you already got there. They should have printing on both sides. So you can spot the next hole (most cases) from the previous greens
3. Scorecard should have a map like most good courses do.
All in all, very good value at 32 bucks with a cart.
I will play here again
Expensive for a municipal
Greens rough, fairways poor condition, average to poor for a municipal course but not worth $70.
Missing the basics
It has been many years since I last played at SC. I now remember why I've chosen other locations. First the positives: The price was nice for a riding round on golf now at $41.00. Can't beat that in SC Valley. The driving range is excellent even though it's a matted facility. The greens were in very good shape. Staff was helpful. Unfortunately, the negatives made the round difficult to recommend the course. Many of the holes demand a map or some previous course knowledge. There are no maps on the tea boxes or on the score cards. If you don't have a guide you are in real trouble on more than a third of the holes. Pace of play was horrible. We waited on every tea box and for the group in front of us to clear the green on on every hole. There is no cart concessions nor was there any food available at the turn. The 150 yard markers are clear but that's it. No accurate sprinkler head markers that I was aware of and I played with a person who plays there once a week who didn't know either. If you want a reasonable round of golf but don't care about anything else in the experience it's an ok place to play - just bring a guide!
Nice course, but very crowded
I like this course -- and played it the first time on July 4th and, of course, it wasn't crowded the pace was excellent. I went out a week later, and played at twilight and by the time I got to the 6th hole, there were 2 foursomes and a double in front of me. I gave up. When I complained, I was told, "Oh yeah, there were a few huge groups that went out before you." The learning is, call ahead before you book. As far as the course conditions, they were great considering our miserable drought. Greens are fantastic.
Flat tire
We got a flat tire on the 5th hole. I first for me getting a flat in a cart. Called the pro shop and by the time we got to the green, the staff was there with a new cart. Some of the greens and fairways were dry. We also ran into a group of 7 playing a scramble but they quit after 9 and we were able to finish all 18.
Bad time management, work was being done on the course and were weren't warned.
I used to like this course. it was a decently challenging set up with just the right combination of length and hazards. In the recent past, it has fallen way off. It is now used as a parking on the weekends for football games, which is fine if the prices reflected that and the course were maintained to accommodate that. Sadly, it isn't. On 4 of the 18 holes, we had to play around construction crew that were working on the course. A good portion of the fairways were compacted which meant that you were hitting off tight lies regards of well placed your ball was off the tee. None of the above was stated to us and we jumped on to the course with not so much as a little bit of warning about the conditions. Here's the kicker. The course was running a youth institute that day so us, and 5 other groups waited for sometimes up to 30 minutes at each tee box. The youth group consisted of 1 instructor and 9 kids. I'm all for teaching kids the game but there has to be a better way than piling them together in front of 6 foursomes. Again, no warning. All in all, the course conditions were not good, too many fairways had groups of construction workers in them and the poorly managed pace of play was inexcusable. This course went from being one of my favorites to being one that i will probably never play again.
Very good value
I enjoyed playing this course since it was awhile since my last visit here! I was fortunate to get a relatively early tee time so the round only took about 4 hours! The layout provides some nice diversity and challenging holes. Overall, a good place to get in a practice round!
Fast play, poor course condition
Course is sort-of winding down towards closing. It is used for Levi Stadium overflow parking and that is beginning to show; there were lots of bare spots on the fairways (more than I remember from previous years). The current water shortage may also have something to do with that though.
Having said that it is still a nice course with reasonable prices and really good pace of play during the week. The last two rounds we have played there were under 4 hours.
Check it out before it disappears!
Challenging course but...
Good layout with a few very challenging holes...blind drives.
Glad I played with a couple locals...course knowledge.
Decent driving range...covered with new mats.
But...not a very welcoming shop staff before and after round.
First impressions are important to a lot of people... a smile and eye contact would go a long way.
nothing special
pretty windy for some holes, and regular golf course size.
staffs there are kind and food is also not that bad.
The course condition is also soso. For fairway, there's some problems, but they are repairing them. For green, it's pretty good compared other courses near that area such as Shoreline.
Better than Shoreline or Moffett.
