Providence Golf Club
About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Do everything you can to avoid the greenside bunker on the par-4 7th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020
Decent public course.
Greens are in good shape, fairways are good, they just let the rough grow up to where it makes it more challenging. Not country club conditions or shape - but good place to play close to home.
Very pleasantly surprised!
I hadn’t played this course in 5 or more years, and I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised with everything, from the lady in the pro shop to the grounds crew, to the snack bar and the girls handling the refreshment cart. Really a class act, and the course conditions are incredible; this course definitely plays like a top-tier course. I can’t believe it took me so long to get back out here, but Providence will definitely be my go-to for the foreseeable future!
Great condition, except for the bunkers.
Fairways and greens were in great shape despite the numerous unrepaired marks. The bunkers, on the other hand were hard packed mud/sand.
Great course
This is my favorite public track in the Chesterfield area. I play here all the time. Providence is kept in really good shape by the staff and there are low rounds to be had out there if you’re hitting it well! Great value course, especially during twilight hours.
Providence
Still not too green and too much sand still on greens
First time playing this course. There was no starter at 1st. tee, so it was a bit of confusion at start.
The course was in very good shape for the season ( early spring). We were lucy to get paired up with a couple of gentlemen that had played course before: made our game much easier knowing the hole lay out.
Nice layout and a challenger !.
We will play again....
Aerification, very poor drainage/maintenance
No aerification alert from TeeOff, back nine closed for aerification, driving range closed, 2 holes CPO due to rain over a week ago. Course was charging less than “Hot Deal.” Playing the front nine twice. Greens were rolling well and would be decent if anyone would fix their ball marks. Bunkers were poor and untouched. Fairways were ok with some base. 2 groups on Tee box when we turned back to front nine. 25 min wait and 4 groups waiting by the time we teed off on our 2nd nine, really poorly done with no structure. Providence continues to disappoint. Potential only
Good clean fun
Great staff, course was in good shape. I came in nervous looking at previous reviews too.
Will be visiting quite a bit from here forward.
Best price in Richmond for a reason
The layout and play of the course is actually really decent. Mostly straightaway holes without too many difficult hazards. We played about 4 days after rain/sleet and the course was VERY wet. Most bunkers had 3-6 inches of standing water on one side of them. Many other bunkers were filled with leaves. The driving range was closed, even the mats and there's no chipping to the practice greens which led to us going into the first 4 holes completely cold. The staff, pro shop, and carts were all nice. Cart paths were quite rough through the hole course. I won't go back but if there was a week of decent weather and you were looking for a cheap round it might not be too bad. We paid $31 for a hot deal and it looked like they charged $63 for walk-ins.
