great golf course
This is the slow season on the coast and I got a great deal on golf now for 25.00. What a deal for this golf course. The course is built in a sanctuary and is in pristine condition. From the back tees it is only 6,600 yds. but the course is tight and you have to hit the ball straight. They have GPS and you need to use it because of some of the shots. Overall a great experience.
Florida Target Golf
Fun course, definitely worth the play. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Course is extreme target golf, with lots of forced carries-the excellent in-cart GPS was essential for helping first timers on the course. Plan on an entire dozen balls unless you are extremely accurate.
Target Golf
My wife and I enjoyed our afternoon at St. James. Be careful when playing. With all of the nature preserve carries make sure to play the appropriate tees or you'll get really frustrated and lose a lot of balls. The course was in great shape, especially considering they had aerated the greens less than a week ago. The course is very secluded but worth the trip. The club house and restaurant are well equipped and the staff is very friendly.
What a Great Place
Having played several courses in this area I was very surprised by the condition of this little gem. Greens, bunkers, fairways, everything was above par. Don't let the yardage fool you, this is a true second shot layout. I enjoyed this course so much I booked a second round the following day. This will be the first of many rounds on this course. PS. friendliest staff I have ever encountered, they where great.
Most beautiful course I have ever played. I'm from Ohio so a lot different than up there. Love the golf carts as well.
This course is simply beautiful.
This is one of the finest courses I have ever played. It is quite challenging for the average golfer. But it so fun to play. The fairways are perfect, and the greens were very good, even though they had been recently sanded. I will certainly recommend it to others and will play it again whim I come back to this area.
The course was in good shape, and the greens were rolling very well. I would definitely play again.
Kitchen was closed
This is a tough round of golf, the greens this time we're a little crunchy from the sea shells in the sand they use. If you are In The area I would definitely recommend This place. We played in the afternoon and the kitchen was closed after our round so check before you go as there is nothing close by to get a bite to eat.
Beautiful course
Enjoy this target course which offers challenging par four hole with carry vistas at different lengths. Always a pleasure to play because the scenery and guality and manicured greens.
Spectacular
I am an intermediate golfer. Of the 50 or so courses I have played, this was the best. The course was as challenging as it was beautiful as it melded into nature, as it was designed to do. There was undulating terrain, wetlands, water and sand hazards plus bending fairways that demanded many precisely calculated shots. The GPS system of the carts is unparalleled. There is no substitute for staying on the fairways. The course is wonderfully laid out. bv
Actual golf in remote area!
Enjoyed the course! Challenging holes with all carry! Doesn't seem sloped correctly for women, one slope rating printed on card.
Greens were dressed when we played. Great condition otherwise.
Great people, great course
St James is a course where I check any ego I might have at the 1st tee box. Let's just call it tactical. You'll probably use your driver about half the time and your hybrids a lot.
Plan on losing a pretty fair amount of balls-- not the time for the new Pro VIs, but rather the dingy ones in the bottom of the bag. A couple of other tips -- drink a lot of water ( it gets hot); take bug spray (which you might need); and be careful around the water hazards (alligators)
Having said all that, you need to simply embrace the course for what it is. One that is very well maintained, not crowded, and not like most of the courses many of us play. St James Bay and Franklin County is what's left of the "real Florida"
Fun Layout
Wife and I are full time RV"ers who play courses along our travel route. This course was fun to play as it is somewhat difficult but was in great shape. Some water, a few hills and lots of wet lands to hit over. This presented a problem for my wife as she could not hit long enough off the tee to clear several of these hazards. Still, we enjoyed our round and would go back when in the area.
Course conditions
The course was in a well manicured state. The course offer a shot selection in almost every hole. Some fairways are tight where'sas others requires ball placement. The greens were fast however protected false fronts and sand traps. Water hazards are in almost every hole. This place is a hidden jewel that needs to be advertised. I will return to play!
St. James
The front nine was much tougher in my opinion than the back nine. The course requires several tee shots where you must carry to the next landing zone. To score well, a player must be able to control not only ball flight but also distance off the tee. Greens looked to have been recently sanded. They are typically better when I have played in the past. Overall, course is great and worth a drive.
Steve & Phil
A real crown jewel for the "forgotten coast".
As beautiful as the course and grounds may be, the real beauty of this course resides in its people. The friendliest, helpful, proactive, most customer service-minded bunch of folks you'll ever come across. From clubhouse to grill, marshalls to groundskeepers, and everyone in between. If you want to know what customer service is all about, spend a few hours with this gang, you won't regret it.
