About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

Only play if a deal
Staff & marshals were generally nice. No beverage cart, 5-somes allowed, etc...
The management is notorious for being cheap. You can tell they don't water their fairways (at all). Greens were in decent shape but not worth a trip. Tees were in ok shape. Good driving range with nice grass.
I've played here about ten times the last few years. Only book this course if you get a hot deal. Never pay full freight here. They can do so much better with a little TLC.
Nice Layout
Course was not well maintained, granted its fall, several patches on fairway with no grass or barely any grass, layout out is great, they could easily turn this course into a good course with little more course maintainenc, Greens were placid
Excellent location and well-priced golf challene
Pinecrest is one of the best courses on the West side that is within the Beltway loop, and easy to reach. The Sunday afternoon round took under 4 hours, although I've also had very slow rounds. The course is still in good shape for end November.
The only critique I would give is they should improve distance markings. Especially on the 16th hole, immediately over water there are no distance markers at all to help with club selection.
course condition
the green is not in good shape.the fairway needs repair, and all the sand trap are bad condition
Great conditions to play
Everything wet great for ore foursome. Friends from San antonio loved it.
Excellent course lot's of waters
Challenging waters and bunkers. We are coming back.
No title Just review
Course is playing extremely fast right now with firm conditions throughout.
My complaints are not course related, but management -- No walking on the course? They do not sell a small bucket of range balls, just medium or large. Any leftover balls on the range are promptly picked up by course employees so noone gets any freebies from balls already paid for.
Biz owner
Some short holes. Mid irons a must on this course. Great/tricky greens.
Price was main reason to play there.
No beverage cart. No marshal to speed up play. Bunkers were dirt pits. Greens were the only saving grace along with the low price secured online through Golfnow.
god golf
course was in great shape greens running really nice
A good challenge for all golfers...
Pine Crest is a good challenge for all levels of golfers. While the fairways are decent (some bald spots), the rain we've gotten this year has made most courses this quality. Some weeds to contend with, but that's no big deal. This isn't a country club so don't expect that level of maintenance.
The greens are borderline excellent. They're in great shape, roll true, and I doubt there's a flat area on any of them. They are the true defense of the course!
Sand traps are the worst part of Pine Crest, although better than the last couple of years. A few are in good shape, many are below average (most are fairly hard packed), and a couple are pathetic. I realize sand traps are the most expensive maintenance item on a course, but geez, rake them once in a while!
Pace of play is spotty. Some week days are good, and some not so much. While the marshals have a obvious presence, some don't encourage groups to let faster players play through. Really, that's my biggest complaint - the customers won't offer to let you play through (although they will if YOU ASK), and the marshals don't get them to. It's ridiculous for a foursome to hold up 3 (or more) twosomes behind them.
If you can get a good on-line deal, this course is over the top in value. If you pay the regular rack rate, especially on a weekend, not so much.
All in all Pine Crest is definitely worth playing.
Convenient
Good and challenging course. No bev cart. Good deals can be found on GolfNow. Pace of play can be slow at times.
Great deal
First time I've played this course and what tremendous value for money. I've paid a lot more on worse courses. Greens, fairways, tee boxes in good condition. If you're looking for good value around the energy corridor then this is the place. Okay the clubhouse looked a bit worn but you go to play golf not eat. I've played at a lot of golf courses in and around Houston over the last ten years and the conditions today rank as top of the list for value for money. Better than any municipal course (including memorial), better than Cinco and half the price. The reason I never played there before was because of the review ratings it has which are way off.
Great course in the Houston area
My first time in thi course. Course was in good shape & I enjoyed my round. We were held up through out which made us not finish the 18th hole as it got dark.
This course has great and enjoyble.
I like this course view and playing.
I have to control distains and area.
I happy to play Pine Crest thanks.
Best bang for your buck around Houston
I have never played this course before but i was pleasently surprised...we have had a lot of rain this week so the course was a little soft. I really do not have any complaints about the course besides the fact that the rain had washed the bunkers out making any sort of sand shot pretty much impossible.
I will definitely be going back to Pine Crest soon and i will definitely recommend to golfers of any skill level.
THE GREENS ARE PERFECT!
Spring Branch
Like its neighborhood, Pine Crest has deteriorated over the years. I'm surprised it wasn't plowed up for commercial a long time ago since it is a semi-private course. The course hasn't changed much in the year or so since I last played it. Actually, the greens are OK. They have always been rolling, slanted and challenging to putt. The fairways are not as dry as usual. The problem is the course is shabby around the edges and the clubhouse has really deteriorated. This course has some interesting holes and a couple of unfair ones (15 -- long, tight, into the wind, with a tree mid-fairway -- and 18 -- lake situated where you can't use driver on tee shot and must layup). Overall, if you can get a rate under $25 with GolfNow, it's worth the trip.
Good Day at golf
Had a greet day. No traffic play was good. We had no interruptions, other players very curtious.
