About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

Fun challenging course
Greens protected by water hazards make this a fun and challenging course. A good mix of wide open and narrow fairways, bunker placement and short par 3's keep you working on a variety of skills. Plays better than many other courses in Houston, and I have yet to see a crowd there. Very reasonable fees, too.
Quick on and Quick off
Played Sunday 11 AM. Warmed up and then hit course. Played by myself for first 11 holes and then was backed up and joined a threesome. Played at good pace in under 4 hours. Greens were in good shape
Don't expect much
With as much rain as we've had you'd think the corse would be wet but it was super dry. I had a 10:30 tee time and we didn't start till 11 so they deffinetly try to stack you deep. Greens were pretty good though
SLOW PLAY
Below is an email I wrote to the club earlier today...
I'm writing this to you as I sit by your starters hut waiting to tee off. My threesome and I had a 2:38 tee time...it's now 2:58 and we still have not teed off. Nobody from your club has come out to apologize or say anything about why we are running 20 minutes late. Totally unacceptable!! Because of this I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.
good value
greens in great shape. bunkers need maintenance. sand is severly washed out from rain. some still 1/2-3/4 full of water. fairways are okay though quite a few bare spots, like a typical muni course. be sure to bring bug spray if you play from the woods.
3-1/2 star
Greens were fairly smooth, but on this day, a bit inconsistent. Course condition was good overall.
Decent course
Course was decent, not great. Fairways were ok for the most part, greens in ok condition just a little inconsistent from one to the next
Book Tee times too close together
The pace of play is as slow of any course I've played throughout the country. The last three times it has taken over 5 hours to get in 18 holes because they over book the tee times. This last time after 5 hours we still had the final 4 holes and just headed back to club house. You can never get into a rhythm.
Locals course
The course in acceptable condition with recent rains. If you are a golf snob, don't come here. Good value and convenient location. On par with a small town muni.
Nice Track
Nice layout and good use of water. The greens were firm yet ran true. Overall the course was in great shape considering all of the rain several days before.
nice course
Pace of play was extremely slow, took 3-1/2 hours for 9 holes. Weather was great, but due to alot of rain prior to playing, it was cart path only. Way too many 5 somes aloud here.
roughs shape
The fairways and a lot of no grass areas and greens were in very rough condition with patches everywhere of no grass. Course looked like what it would look like if it had been abandoned for a few weeks with no grounds keepers doing anything. Cousre was in much better shape just a year ago, not sure what's happened.
oh well
waited for service after the 9th hole, must have been a shift change. several groups past before I could order,2 cokes and water ,tea
course in not in great shape.
played this course a handful of times last year and really enjoyed it, but its not in great shape anymore. 1st 3 greens are really bad.
Fun course
Fun course to play in Houston, lots of water, I always like a challenging course, condition could be better but it's not bad
Overall nice course
This course was nice overall, much like a city course. Friendly staff.
Bad day
Course is ok it was just a bad weather day to play
winter golf in houston
played at Pine Crest it was in pretty good condition
I do play there once a week. once the weather gets better so will the course . greens roll good. fairways are fair.
play at memorial park for less money
Not a good value for the money. The entire course is drier than Africa
Fun course, great location
I wouldnt go out of the way for this course, but if you live nearby its certainly a must play if you can find a good deal on a tee time. Can be a bit noisy, and the course can get pretty crowded on nice days. In general the course is 'good', but nothing about it really stands out as 'great'
