Poor conditions
The course is in terrible condition. It’s like they don’t even care about upkeep. A shame because the layout is good and it used to be really good value for money here. Greens are exceptionally terrible
Blakes poor condition
Played at Blake’s today can’t believe they charge full price fora course that’s in poor condition don’t think they have a green keeper and greens have not been watered in some time
Will not be going back
Greens are terrible
The greens were dreadful, sandy patchy, very little grass. This is a good course but needs lots of TLC.
great views and green greens
In this scorching summer the fairways had suffered to a yellow dry and hard surface. That made for unexpected jumps of your ball but also fast rolling hopefully in the right direction. Fairways are broad and undulating. Only holes 8 (an islandgreen) and 17 have challenging water.
Good signposting but no pictures at the tee. Do take a picture on your phone at the first tee of the whole course.
Open course
Nice undulating course with some tricky wet greens on the 8th and 17th hole. Broad fairways and fast greens even now in extreme dry conditions. I missed a sketch of the lay-out of each hole at the tee and signposting at the second 9 holes. So take a picture of the holes layout at the first tee to check your bearings.
Hope to be back in green conditions.
Good value
Booked on line on a Saturday morning for a late afternoon tee time. Paid £18 per person and allowed on early as the course was quiet. Very dry conditions but greens played true and interesting selection of holes. Great course for higher handicappers because of parallel fairways in many places.
Unloved
Blakes seems to have gone downhill fast. All the greens in poor condition, appearing to be unwatered for some reason. Tees appallingly bad in places. Won’t be rushing back anytime soon. Poor compared to the well loved Epping course down the road and the same price.
6 stars
I had seen all the bad reviews, I decided to take a chance and play it,wow wow absolutely loved it ,stunning lay out ,proper links golf ,greens are dry but run very true, friendly staff ,16 pounds for 18 holes bargain bargain bargain, go play it ,plz stop bashing this course general public
Greens and fairways
I took my friend's for a day out at blakes last Monday and the state of the course was horrific.. the fairways was sliced all over the place and brown and dry ...as for the bunkers had more stones than the beach...the greens was totally unplayable ..dry poorly cut and not seen water in days . The standards need to come back and fast ..played this course 3 months ago and was decent......and now is not !!!!!
It is what it is.
£28 on a Saturday morning you can’t complain too much.
Very dry course. Big cracks in some of the fairways. 2 or 3 fairway bunkers out of use and GUR. Overall it’s pretty good and some nice holes, including a tricky hole on island over water, but lots of parched dry patches round the greens.
Club house is a bit basic and not the best. Tatty.
But like I said - £28 - you can’t complain too much.
first time
this was the first time i had played a links style course, the ground was very hard, and the greens slick.. The bunkers could do with being turned over overall it was an enjoyable round and i will return
Always a fun round
Good course, with some challenging holes but good fun. Well maintained
HIT AND MISS
Ok if you want a cheap round.
Some holes are nice especially the par 3 with the pond around the hole.
Bunkers are rubbish full of stones.
Tees are not looked after.
Nice clubhouse.
Decent course layout and conditions
Nice course, good mix of par 3,4,5s with a lovely island green on a par 3. I walked and there’s quite a lot of walking to tee boxes so buggy would be good.
