Excellent course
Excellent course offering a variety of challenging holes
Hidden Gem
20 years of play and this has not been on my radar. It is top of the list now.
Good challenging course
Course seems to be taken good care of. Staff were friendly. Members were friendly and spoke to us which can be hit and miss at some clubs. Very challenging course with scorecard and tees mapped out for each hole which is very helpful to first time visitors. Will definitely return great day out.
Good course
The gentleman in the shop was very welcoming and friendly, always a nice start.
The course was really nice, well maintained. Played early and the greenkeepers were already out mowing the greens.
Great layout, long and short par 3s. By no means flat, which added to the test and enjoyment, but anyone not the strongest on their feet, I would recommend a buggy.
Will definitely return, well worth the 1 hour drive
Fun course
A very fun course with lots of challenging holes. Wasn't in great condition when we played due to heavy rain, the bunkers and greens were very waterlogged, on a nice day it would have been lovely. The main issue we had was teenagers going around the course on bikes (we saw at least 6 of them driving over the greens while we were on the fairway).
Great course overall though and we will definitely be playing here again.
Nice greens and friendly members
Played this today greens were very nice. Disappointed around the greens though some dry areas with no grass on more mud. This made it very difficult at times to chip around the green. Also theres a footpath that runs right through the middle of the course so we had children riding bikes and kicking footballs. Fairways were nice but some of the first cuts could have do with some more looking after. Bunkers were filled full of lovely sand and I have to say they were probably the best bunkers ive ever played out of. We paid 14 pound to play and at that price its worth every penny. Maybe not when your paying 30-35 pound though.
Review
First time playing this course great starting hole par 3, greens in great condition considering the rain of late will definitely return in summer.
Great layout
Loved the course the greens were holotined so putting was hit and miss overall first time I've played and will be back again
Greens are fantastic
As it’s early in the golf season the few courses I have played the greens haven’t been up to scratch at north Manchester or nefyn, so was pleasantly surprised the greens were fast and in perfect condition at bury was an absolute pleasure course in great condition so much so I’m playing again today
Thinkers course
Managed to get a late morning time despite a member's comp. Course in great condition, especially the greens. Extremely windy which made the course really tricky but still a fair challenge. Not long but you need to plot your way round as positioning makes the difference.
Three Mackenzie greens added to the attraction. Back in the Spring!!
16 hole average course
Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with my visit to Bury Golf Club. I was notified mid way through our round that 2 holes were currently closed for refurbishment. This was frustrating as we wouldn’t have booked to play this course had the club notified teeofftimes that this was the case. The overall condition for the time of year was fairly good, although there was an awful lot of debris on the greens which made it impossible to make anything. The 150 markers had also been taken out and were left on the ground in locations that my view ranger proved were often incorrect. I don’t believe in summer that this would be great course. There were far too many blind tee/approach shots, and the holes appear to have simply been designed to fit into the land as oppose to have Brennan designed to a professional standard. To summarise, I will not be returning.
Superb course
Played this course 3 days ago for the first ti e and loved it that much we came back today despite gale force winds and showers! Course in superb condition for the time of year. I'm a high handicap beginner and I think the course offers a really good test for all levels. Can't wait to play this in the summer I bet they have it pristine! Highly recommended
Handicap 31 - score 104
Heaven in Bury
Beautiful tees greens fairways views. Every hole is different and challenging. You have to play for position rather than just hitting length. Fairly elevated but gradual so no heart attacks like other local clubs. Couple of signature holes would not look out of place at any top clubs
This review is hilarious!
Bury was designed by Alister MacKenzie, the greatest golf course architect ever to have lived! The whole point of designing a golf course is to fit the land, and if that involves a few blind shots - so be it.
I suggest that the reviewer sticks to boring tree-lined flat farmers' field golf courses, of which there are are many.
Bury is a great course to be savoured by connoisseurs.
