Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course
About
Cedar Creek is consistently rated one of the top muni courses in the USA. The hill country layout is challenging for all levels of play. Gold tees are available for scratch golfers. Some players feel that the narrow fairways allow the ball to roll to the center, but this is not evident to most players. Ride this one... it's real hard to walk. Because of it's popularity, the crowded course can play very slow. Go early or allow five hour rounds on really nice days. However, it's so pretty and great to play it's worth the time. If you can find a nice December day when the younger set is in school, that's the day to play Cedar Creek
Distance: Allow 30 minutes minimum from downtown. From I-10 going west, exit Loop 1604, then go west 3 miles to the Kyle Seale Pkwy. Turn right and drive 2 miles to the course. Watch real close for signs to clubhouse, which is on the left side of road up a long paved road.

Will play it again
First 9 holes in good condition, the back 9 in GREAT condition. some of the greens are very challenging.
Plan for a full day
I reserved this tee time on GolfNow and never in my wildest dreams envisioned what happened once at the course. The staff, knowing full well that the course was overbooked and play was slow, gave no indication that 9 holes of golf was going to take 3 hours and 20 minutes. There were lines waiting at every tee box to play and the pace was horribly slow. There was no getting into any kind of rhythm on the course. It took 45 minutes to play one hole (I believe it was #6). There were 3 in my group and the course placed a single with us to round out the foursome. The single quit after 6 holes obviously disgusted with the pace of play. We had planned for a 4 to 4 1/2 hour round and had other plans for the evening so we couldn't play the back 9. I talked to the staff member in the pro shop when we were complete with the 9 holes. It wasn't the same young man who had taken our money initially. I voiced my displeasure with the pace of play and asked for a raincheck for 9 holes. The staff member told me that they had been telling everyone that the pace of play was extremely slow (over 3 hours per 9) and that was what happened when you get golfers of different skill levels on the course at one time. He told me that the course was often like this and didn't seem inclined to do anything for me. I politely told him that I hadn't played his course in over a year and that the last time I had it was not like this. I told him that it had more to do with overbooking than golfer's skill levels. I told him that the group in front of us had 2 golfers that looked like they were just beginning and they were waiting for the group in front of them just like everyone else. He told me that they were sending folks out every 9 minutes so the course hadn't been overbooked. There were marshalls on the course but what can they do when there are 2 and sometimes 3 groups of players (foursomes) waiting to tee off on every hole. I also advised him that if the person I had paid told me that the pace was 3 hours per 9 holes I would have gone and played somewhere else even if it cost more money. The staff member still seemed disinterested in my complaint and I don't know that I will ever play this course again unless management changes.
Very Scenic
Great rolling hills gives course nice character and scenic views. Challenging layout and tricky greens...slower than they look. Only 3 par threes...2 are quite long. Third time playing this course...does not get any easier. Will try again soon.
This course was fun to play. A lot of doglegs as well as many beautiful views.
Cedar Creek is a course with many suprises. My first look at the course I was convinced that I wasn't going to like it. The Clubhouse appeared to be very shop worn and needed a refurb. The course itself turned out to be a very pretty course with some great scenery and interesting shots even if you wind up in the fairway on your drive. Very hilly but well laid out. The only unfortunate thing is that it needs a lot of attention to be put back into a 4 star course condition. I reccomend this course based on playability alone.
Beautiful course!
This course is beautiful and scenic. Challenging but not overly difficult. I can hardly wait to play it again!
CHALLENGING
The only thing lacking was a course/hole diagram. Have not played the course before and didnt know where to hit on some holes.
very nice course for the price
Cedar Creek is a fairly tight course, but it is fast and fun. One of the nicest public courses in San Antonio.
Enjoyable course
Hill Country course with elevation changes and side sloping fairways. Requires placement from tee shots. fairways and greens were in good condition.
The greens on this course are very challenging. When the put seems to break right it actually breaks left.
The greens in this course are very challenging. The put at times looked like it would break left when in actuality it broke right.
The is fun to play and has a good layout.
The course was over booked and took longer than it should have for 18 holes. The greens need attention and there is a lot of work being done to the course. The beverage person only came around once and that was dissapointing.
Great
Just need to call ahead to check for maintenance times.
Nice and Scenic Course
Course is in great condition. If you are looking for a course that has lots of rolling hills, this is the course you are looking for. There are several holes with high elevation changes, which is a nice change from most courses here in San Antonio. The carts aren't too nice (the one I had was very slow and weak powered), but I wouldn't let that from keeping you from playing here.
Good shape, nice area
Course was in great shape, a couple of the greens had some minor sandy spots but overall it was pretty good
Good shape for winter. Not much grass on fairways.
Play middle of week but there were some slow groups. No snack bar service. Couse in OK shape.
In nice shape, winter grass is a plus.
My wife and I played in 3:45 thanks to a nice foursome letting us play thru on #10 tee. Course was better than last couple times there - greens had been mottled and dying in places - coming back now. Pigs love to tear this course up with their rooting - seemed like less of that too. Number 11 currently has a trench dug at the edge of the fairway the length of the hole (sure enough I hit my drive into it - no biggie though). In general this course has potential to be 'club quality' but has gone down hill since the city acquired it. The good news is it seems like it is finally getting better again.
This course is beautiful.
I really like the layout and it is only 4 miles from my house. You can find good deals for this course on golfnow.com. The fairways are narrow but there are slopes down from either side of the fairway to help keep your ball in play. If you are playing this course down everywhere from the back tees it can sneak up and get you in a hurry.
All in all...not too shabby
Overall Cedar is a nice course. I love the course, which has good elevation changes and numerous holes with very unique characteristics. Condition, as of now, has something to be desired. The fairways while not terrible are fairly skinny, and the greens while not skinny are still extremely hard and have a tendency to skid rather than take spin especially with a lower trajectory of shot.
Overpriced Muni
Beware, book a tee time and read the fine print.....the deals don't include a cart fee! Got to the course with a guest who came from out of town and expected to play a decent course for $35 and was informed by the staff that this didn't include a cart, a first for me and I've used GolfNow for over a year. They advised against using GolfNow to book times at their course. I ended up paying $50 to play and for that kind of money I'm sure I could have played a better course.
Great looking to the eye , but in winter conduin
Fairways are in rough condition , greens a little bumpy. Great looking course but they are obviously winterizing at this time
An excellent layout; reasonable conditions
Course was designed to start from the top and finish at the bottom. Currently the 9's are reversed; carrying clubs, i.e. walking the hill 3 times rather than once is a poor choice..
