Played here before and loved it, Fairways OK, bit scorched but Greens were amazing. Lovely little course, friendly members. Definitely going back !
Better than evenr
I was a member at Old Fold Manor years ago before moving out of the area and it's clear that they have spent a lot of money enhancing the excellent course layout with some much needed facilities. There is now a covered driving range, which was always lacking and the halfway house is a great addition. Updated signage makes the place look smart and fresh. The course itself was hard and dry (unsurprising) but the greens were still receptive, fast but true. We flew round in a little over 3.5h despite an obviously busy tee sheet, which was a real bonus. Loved it. Will be back again
3.5 Stars
Pros
- Friendly pro shop and bar staff
- Great pace of play with members letting us play through
- Greens and tees in good shape
Cons
- Poor fairway conditions throughout but especially the front 9
- Driving range only open to members
Cracking Old School Golf Course
The club is great condition. Beautiful clubhouse, well stocked pro shop. Easy to park.
Asked at the pro shop if it was busy and they’d told me it would be fairly busy out there (1620 tee off). The pace of play was exceptional. We never had to wait once even though there were plenty of people out there.
The course is your classic London course / colt layout. Not overly long giving short hitters / maid high handicappers confidence, whilst lulling low handicappers into over confidence.
Most of the hole layouts unfold in front from the tee with you being able to see the pin from most tees. 11th hole was the most confusing to me, don’t know if it’s been redone recently but it didn’t relate to my gps. It was blind and just couldn’t ‘see’ the hole.
That said the course was incredibly fun to play, plenty to to think about. The tee boxes were in good Knick. Well looked after and level. The fairways were the most disappointing playing aspect and in total contrast to the rest of the course condition. They were bare, patchy and looked in need of some TLC. The greens were pure. Beautiful. They ran true, had a good speed and looked fantastic.
There was a lovely halfway house which was perfect.
All in all it was a cracking experience, a fantastic course with some really fun holes.
I would recommend to anyone. .
Course will only get better
Old fold manor, the has under gone a lot of work, but it will only make a better place, greens are excellent, will be going back again and again
Old fold manor rip off
Felt totally let down by teeofftimes lack of information with regards to the condition of this course, the building work is quite extensive and some of the holes had been reduced or moved .
The fairways had been tined this making virtually
Unplayable . It wasn’t worth 18 pounds.
Old fold manor don’t play here
Just played OLD FOLD MANOR GOLF CLUB today and was appalled at the condition it was in 2/3 temporary greens tees moved all over the place fairways all cut up and lorries and machinery going in the background, never played such a bad course in my life and all 5 of my playing partners felt the same , this course will not be properly playable for a couple of years in our minds, no signage anywhere and tee off times are charging £20 a round peak times are £25, complained to pro shop and he said I’m not the first to complain and they had informed tee off times of the works, there’s nothing at all saying anything anywhere. Would not have played here at all if we’d have known condition , conned out of our money, the gentleman who booked it in our party is going to ask for money back . PLEASE BE WARNED
Will be great when finished
Pro shop and club staff are friendly and welcomed us. The fairways are damaged by last hot summer but the greens are immaculate and well managed. Hole 6 is shorten from par 4 to par 3 with temp green. This is because the club is spending a lot in improvements now. Looks like the club is adding new range, a new 9 hole course and new sprinkler system. I look forward to playing when it is completed and can then give 5 stars to course condition and layout.
3 holes closed and many tee-markers missing
We arrived in good time as visitors who'd paid online and were told at the pro-shop we could start when ready. I needed to use the toilet but on entering the clubhouse the men's locker room had a key code I didn't know. I rang a bell on another door to be told by a staff member that visitors couldn't use the toilets (!) but at that point a member assisted by allowing me access.
Out on the course, there were 3 holes we'd been told by the pro-shop were closed (4, 5 & 6 I think), but having found the 7th tee from the 3rd's green and playing the 7th, we then couldn't find the 8th tee. A phone call to the club revealed that the 8th tee was marked as the 4th tee and was very close to the 7th green (as you might expect, and my golf watch confirmed this as we got nearer the 8th green). I appreciate they may well be reassigning holes during WIP but a sign on what may be the new "4th" tee saying it was still the 8th as of today today would have been nice!
There were quite a few tee markers missing on various holes, especially the higher ones after 7.
Overall though a very nice course with well kept greens for this time of year and when the redesign work is finished I look forward to returning.
Enjoyable, not too tough
First time round, found it fairly straightforward, not too many blind tee's, nice variation, very nice greens, some were craftily designed and would be worth noting next time round, it was mid November so a bit sticky and they were adjusting to winter tee's on some holes.A very enjoyable round was had. I found a wicked bunker guarding the ninth which coaxed me in. Also not too long to complete 18 - about 3.5 hours although 4 ball ahead did bail after nine.
Always improving
Played alot of courses this year, this is a great value golf course, can be tough when windy, best greens they have had in a long time, true roll and turn.
A must visit
A very enjoyable round.
the course is in very good condition, excellent and tricky greens given the dry summer.
A well crafted course which requires thinking off the Tee.
currently undergoing some renovation work which will only enhance the overall playability of the course
Found members very friendly and a nice warm warm welcome in the clubhouse afterwards, and overall a very good experience and will be back
Lovely course
We were hampered by rain most of the time.
Well kept carpet like but challenging greens. Must play course
Nice greens
Greatly maintained greens shame about the fairway conditions
Good Old Fold
A favourite course to play for me over the years, greens are lush but fairways and tee boxes are bit worn.
Look forward to a revisit when the grass recovers.
A challenging course with wide undulating fairways. Strategically placed bunkers to catch wayward drives and approaches. Fast gently sloping greens and a few water hazards. Bunkers could be better very little sand.
