Enjoyed
Played today it was for me (a beginner ) a challenging course but was an enjoyable experience. I was a bit surprised to find the first tee a par 5 that being said it gave me a chance to make a few mistakes early on. Overall the course is in good condition greens were nice and only lost 1 ball over the 18 holes will definitely be going back and hopefully bettering my score of 93.
Really Impressed!
Having seen previous reviews for Regent Park Golf Club we’d held off playing the course, but due to available tee times gave it a go last week. Regent Park exceeded our expectations massively. The course itself was well looked after, clearly a lot of ground work and preservation over the winter has gone into the course. There were no winter restrictions. Driving range on site for a warm up was useful. Most impressive aspect of the day was when the play looked to be getting slow after a few holes due to a 4 ball taking their time in front. Regent Park had someone doing the occasional trip around the course on the buggy who had a word with them at first, but then after another hole stopped them and let us and a two ball behind us play through. The new clubhouse is fantastic as well, nice touch having an advertisement on the 9th hole offering pre orders of food / drinks which you can collect on your way past the clubhouse to the 10th. We were really impressed, so played again this weekend and our experience was the same. Clearly a lot of effort and thought going into the club, we’ll done. We’ll be back very soon.
Not how it looks in the photos
3 of us chose to play here as looking at the pictures uploaded to GoNow its looked a reasonable course for the money, i drove 2 hours to play this course with a friends who was passing through the area. 5 of the first 9 holes were waterlogged so we were advised to olay the back 9 twice. No winter tee boxes. The tees were in a bad state. The fairways looked like they had 4x4's run over them very very muddy, you even had members driving around in buggys when it was really wet. Then on the 13th hole we had 2 maintenance digging up the green whilst we were in play. And another pair of maintenance guys driving round in a offroad buggy and tracktor scattering gravel which was good but what wasnt good was the music they were blasting out. Even driving over the fairway midplay. Really not professional at all. The proshop wasnt bad, the clubhouse was closed, the driving range looks like its been used for banger racing just mud.
Lovely course let down by tee boxes
This place is my new favourite course but most recently the tee boxes are letting the side down, they are clearly not being treated after being moved so some are teeing off rock hard mud. I get that the recent hot weather doesn’t help but it’s the little things that make a big difference. Other clubs in the area are able to maintain them well. On positive note tho…rest of the course is superb as always.
Ideal
This course has everything you need, always availability. It seems to be getting better and better everytime I come and the new clubhouse looks great. Food and beers are fantastic.
Bank Holiday
Course was in great condition, played a few years ago and the back nine was boggy but today it was beautiful. The greens were running pretty fast.
Great Municiple course
Played Regents park many times and its a great course especially during the winter months
Several of the front 9 holes down near the railway line are closed in winter due to drainage but you have the option of playing the remaining front nine twice and then the back nine or just two loops of the back nine, which we played. Course has held up well and the greens are reasonsbly good compaired to other courses. Great for beginners, you can open up your shoulders on your drives as the fairways are wide and well maintained would play again.
Newly refurbished clubhouse is a bonus and the food is good. But it was shut this time for the installation of the decking area.
Not what it looks like on the pictures
Shocking. Only good thing is a driving range onsite and the proshop was decent. The course was like a tractor had been over it. We had to play the back 9 twice. On the 13th midplay 2 maintenance guys started digging up the green. 2nd time round another 2 maintemance guys were throwing gravel onto pathways blasting music out. Then driving across a number of fairways again in midplay. Not worth the £20 pricetag.
much improved
played the course 12 months ago and was in a poor condition especially the front 9. . however this time around its much improved and deserves more than the current 2star rating. course could be cheaper than the current £25
Unbelievable turn around from last year
So i was a member at regent park last year and to be quite honest the course wasn't in the best shape so i left to join a different course, yesterday my course was closed so i headed down to regent park again to try it out as i have heard that there has been some mega improvements, what i heard was not wrong i was very surprised to see that the course was in amazing condition (also yesterday it was raining all day) you can tell a lot of hard work has been put into the condition of the course and i take my golf cap off to all the very friendly staff and groundkeepers! I would highly recommend to give regent park another shot and not to take on the reviews which were put on last year as the turn around is unbelievable from then! I will definitely be coming back to play again,
In regards to pricing, to play the full 18 it is only £12 on a weekday, (not sure how much weekend prices are right now but im sure this will be displayed on their website) which is a bargain for what you get considering how much it is to play at other courses these days, the range has also very reasonable pricing and is great to smash a few balls before heading out to the course,
It also has foot golf which is a great alternative to the people who may not be able to swing a golf club as well as they can kick a ball so regent park really has it all
Overall i recommend any beginner, intermediate, highly skilled golfer to try regent park as it fits for every type of golfer and to not read the reviews from last year as it is a completely different course from what it was then,
Good Course
Thought I'd share a review having played this course the last 2 years, it's obviously been improved significantly with greens running on top form and the addition of what looks to be an extensive project of drainage works, youll find this course to be a real gem in Bolton, highly recommend and Enjoy.
