Good course
1st time playing and will do another round, course is in good overall condition fairways are good, just the greens could do with some work bit patchy in areas but run true.
First Time Round, But Not The Last
Lovely first time on this course, it was lovely day for it! course in good condition, teeboxes, fairways but the greens need work.
A challenging course for all abilities
I found this course on a Hot deal and for the price paid was well above average. On arrival staff were very friendly and helpful. Was informed the course was busy but did not have any hold ups until the 15th hole. The course itself was in good condition given the time of year. I am sure given a few more weeks sunshine it will be a different playing course and the greens will have recovered.. This is definitely a course I want to play again especially in the summer months.
Very nice course overall
My first proper 18 holes after the best part of 20 years at a nice local course on a familiar cycle route to me.
Although a bit boggy in places it was a nice course. Friendly staff, good layout, tidy course and quite flat. The greens were not very receptive and it was very hard to get the ball to check up. Lots of unrepairable pitch marks and divots and they did need some work.
That being said, still a pleasure to play and friendly patrons also help.
I dont believe that the price to a none member is justified based on the current condition, I'd pitch that between £20-25.
All the potential of a fantastic challenging par 72 course in the making and I'd say definitely give it a go.
Needs a bit of attention
I have played this course a fair bit over the years and it is definitely a test. First time I have played winter golf there in a long while. There was one replacement green in place which I knew about before booking which was fine for this time of year.
There are 4 practice nets (2 of which looked like they were being repaired), a putting green and small chipping area. These areas need a bit of work.
The fairways were in fair condition but the greens needed some work as they were slow and bobbly. Similar to when I played earlier in the year. The course dealt with the recent weather well. However it looks like the leaves around the course haven’t been cleared at all as there was heavy layers of them around the holes.
Good course just needs a bit of TLC.
A reasonable course
Condition not as good as other pre covid games we’ve played at scarthingwell, but like everywhere the course is more expensive. Leaves us knowing it’s there but won’t rush back. If you charge more the golfer expects improvement otherwise you are on a downward spiral.
Short flags can lead to a little confusion over distances.
2 & 3 Ball members taking 4hr 30min to complete round
Friendly bar staff to check you in - was told it was hedgehog wheel trollies only but club kindly loaned me their last but one trolley - would have been carrying a tour bag round if they had run out so top tip is to take a carry bag with you or buy own hedgehogs. Course is straightforward , greens still lumpy & slow 6 weeks on from the coring done end of Sept but yes it is November. Played Sandburn 2 wks ago and greens there much much better. What spoilt the day was groups of 2 & 3 ball members in front who took 4hrs 30 min to complete their casual wander round the course completely ignorant of the groups behind them. Shot 76 gross last time , just gross boredom this time. Don't bother if it is busy - I played Monday morning in the hope it would be quiet.
Warm and inviting
What a pleasure to have played a beautiful golf course in a wonderful setting. After an awful lot of heavy rain all week we were lucky to play on a fairly dry day in windy conditions. Not my best round but really enjoyed it. Called into the clubhouse after the golf which was warm and inviting greeted by wonderful people and a lovely centrally positioned wood burner. A beautiful feature might I add. We shall return to experience and make more memorable plays of golf.
Club needs improvement to match the course
Played this course a bit in my youth and also played earlier in the year in the middle of covid restrictions. The course has blossomed from when I first played years ago and is definitely a challenge. The greens today had been hollow tined as they had been doing work on the greens for the last few weeks which made putting more of a challenge. But in general the course played well and presented a challenge.
The clubhouse and shop needs improvement though as limited food on options and the golf shop is now in the bar and if you need more than a pack of tees or a brolley then you will be struggling. No hot food available just a selection of package sandwiches and a pie plus a bacon bap wrapped in cling film was the options. The clubhouse used to provide excellent food. Please bring this clubhouse back to what it was.
Good course
Good course to play, greens had just been spiked and sanded so putting difficult, but otherwise an enjoyable round
Top afternoon out
Very enjoyable round of golf .lovely weather too which made it even better
A great round
We had a great two ball round of golf at Scarthingwell.
Staff are welcoming and facilities excellent.. The course was in excellent condition. Pace of lay was a little slow but that was just because we picked a busy time with lots of people trying to fit in a game before the lovely September weather breaks.
Thank you Scarthingwell.
Disappointing
I had been recommended this course by friends , but it was a bit of a let down.
Greens were almost unplayable - I know they were dressing them but it spoilt the round . Do they need to be dressed like this in mid September after weeks of great weather - I’m not an expert on green agronomy so maybe it’s me.
Layout is ok , a bit flat . Nothing wrong with it , just a bit disappointing
Course good people not so
After experience for the first time ever ( have played all over Great Britain and other parts of the world being asked to go get my playing partner from the car park as I was booking in so this person could check his golf attire Once on the course enjoyed it But will never be back
