Great clubhouse but v slow play
Great clubhouse and like the course layout. Disappointing that on hole 10 they were allowing groups to jump in front of you half way around. this spoiled our game as was flowing nicely until that point . Also fairways need a lot of work some couldn't tell where fairway started and rough ended.
No title
Was very bogged but obviously due to recent weather conditions
Bit boggy......
Probably shouldn't have been open, to say it was boggy would a slight understatement. Lost 2 balls in the fairway and nearly lost my shoes on several occasions. Can't be to critical as it is January and it had peed it down for 2 days. Will go in the summertime as its a nicely laid out course
The course should have been closed!!
Having played this course many times before(mainly during summer season)I was very disappointed with the course conditions!! Each and every fairway was extremely muddy, bordering on quagmire Conditions in many places, whilst the first green had a large area of standing water. Overall, a very disappointing day, and an embarrassment to me having 2 guests playing with me for the first time on this course.!!
In essence, we should have walked off the course, but we battled on , taking some 4.5 hours to complete, feeling totally worn out by the time we got back to car park! Our golf shoes were totally covered with mud, and no proper facilities to wash down were available, resulting in us using any manner or means to try & clean prior to placing in boot of brand new car!!!
Talking to several other players, they too were complaining about conditions and, like ourselves, had far fewer golf balls than when they first started!!!
Unfortunately, there was no one to question about our experience back at the club shop, thus no satisfaction there either!!
Whilst I can appreciate there had been heavy rainfall in previous days, I feel that the course should definitely have been closed and appropriate refund made whereby I may have identified an alternative course( somewhat nearer to home:45 miles away), and played that instead!
Feedback on this script would be appropriate, and perhaps apology/ recompense be forthcoming?!!
Hi Roberjs I’m sorry you had a bad experience. When conditions are poor we often open to members but always brief visitors of the conditions in the shop at check in. We usually offer the option of trying a few holes with the option of moving your booking to another time. It depends how desperate you are to play! If you want to play again please contact me directly at the club and I will arrange for a complimentary round. I hope your experience hasn’t put you off coming back.
Great course
Friendly and helpful staff, course was incredibly dry considering all the rain we’ve had lately, will more than likely play here all winter if I can
First Time
First time playing at Staines Lodge. Impressed with the whole set up. Would play again.
Great course
Second time playing here and was similarly impressed
Young chap in pro shop was friendly
We were following a 4 ball so as a 2 we were expecting a slow day but we kept going and lads in front kept going as well
Being a youngish course it’s open to the sea breeze
4 ball ducked out at 9th for a brew so we went through which was a bonus
Ended round after 3:15 so was a good walk
Very nice course
Very nice course to play. Pace of play has been very good each time we’ve played there aswell. Nice bar n seating area to have a pint after round n watch people tee off on tenth n play in on 18
Great track
Anyone who came to play golf here won't be disappointed.
The course is in good condition
Enjoyed playing this course, booked online, it said buggies were £10 but was charged £20. Have to use a buggie for medical reasons, far too expensive for me. Buggies usually average £15 most places, only top hotels charge £20. Can’t afford to play here!
A good knock
Although the course is open and allows for less accurancy off the tee, the difficult greens balance out the course and make it a challenge for all level of player.
5 and 6 ball?
Play staining regularly as a local but enjoy switching courses week to week, generally not any issues. Great staff, good and well maintained course and great facilities.
However this afternoon we saw a 6 ball teeing off as we were finishing up the front 9. A guy and his son asking if we were finishing after 9 so they could jump on the back 9 with the prospect of sitting behind a 6 ball troop. And then got stuck behind a 5 ball from the 11th who were not only slow (as you would expect) but also were sharing clubs making it even worse. Painful round stuck behind these guys. Screwed 4 or 5 groups stuck behind them trying to beat the sunset as the nights draw in. One pair gave up, another with a buggy circled back and played from the 10th again and the third set just sat back from us and I assume gave up also as we're nowhere to be seen as we crawled along the 17th and 18th.
A little disappointed to see this as usually a great course and good pace. Hope the team can tighten up on this kind of play. By no means a great golfer myself, but appreciate the ability to get around the course in under 4.5-5 hours!!!
Lovely course
Nice sunny day, fairways dry and running fast, greens in excellent condition and very true.Nice couple of pints of Warstiener afterwards! A great course in dry conditions.
Superb condition
Best it’s ever been
Fairways are short and firm
Greens immaculate
Great day
Lovely Peroni at 19th looking over course
Bliss
Nice little track
Worth a visit to staining. It’s not a long course abs the SI of holes is questionable (especially the 18th) but thoroughly enjoyable mix of challenging holes. Certainly worth the £72 for a four ball. Clubhouse is very modern and some lovely seating outside for an after round drink. Overall I would definitely visit staining again as I think it has it challenges, it’s not a championship standard in terms of greens etc, but VFM I think it’s excellent
