poor conditions, on its way out
This course has a nice, difficult layout but clearly is on its last legs. Tee boxes and greens where not well kept, not does it seem like they are trying in anyway to improve conditions. If you don't get a deeply discounted rate play elsewhere.
Tower
I think this is a difficult course. The staff has moved up the white tees. I think they are trying to make it more playable for higher handicap golfers. Most greens are in excellent condition. Beautiful views from the course.
Nice course
Great elevation changes course generally in great shape some greens frost burns still but good time anyway, wish the snack shop was at the turn which we got to at about 515
Terrible condition
I have played this course 3 times now this last time was first time in a few years and I have never seen a course in such terrible condition! Greens were awful, lot of sand on them and just burnt out and a lot of holes, grooves, etc. Putts were bouncing off to he ground! Makes a course I have played for even cheaper look like a country club because it's in such better shape compared to this so called "country club."
Greens very poor shape But efficient round
first time playing this course in 2015 and the greens were shockingly poor. About half were virtually unputtable. That said got out as a twosome on a Sunday morning at 730 and finished by 1030. if you are interested in getting a quick round in this is for you but if you are looking to be satisfied with the golf experience this is not for you.
Sorry, Bad tee boxes and bad greens
I thought that getting a bargain, price was good... I set up a round with a foursome (3) guys and 1 wonderful lady. I was supposed to save money on the greens fees, I guess they didn't need it because they aren't spending it on the repair of tee boxes or greens upkeep. The started told us they don't have Red markers for the women, light green? After the first hole the greens and tee boxes were appalling, Blight?? Additionally the Light Green box was in some cases well over 100 yards in front of the Men's. She switched to the Whites and we hit off the Blues, she still killed us... one green was half sand and something green, like putting on the beach. I wish they at least told us that there was some issues, will I play there again, NO.
Good Bang for the buck
Course has an interesting Layout, However the greens were still suffering some winter burn which is odd because it is now August 1st. All in all the very nice course, they could use some new golf carts ( I think I need to see my chiropractor after riding in these) The suspension was like riding on bricks. hahaha, I think the Layout was challenging with some awesome views of the country surrounding the course.
Course is in rough shape
Fairways and rough are okay, bunkers pretty good. Greens are in rough shape, several unputtable. The cart we had felt like it was about to fall apart. Definitely not worth $50 a guy, will not be playing here again
3 hour round...
Good news, I finished my round in 3 hours. Went out as a single, got up to a foursome on the 12th hole, they let me play through and finished in 3 hours.
Now the bad news...as many have written, the greens are awful. Maybe 2 greens are in playing condition..remaining are really beat up. Tee boxes could also use some help. Fairways, rough and sand traps were in good condition.
My golf cart ran like a 1972 Oldsmobile...people at pro shop, starter and 19th hole all were very professional.
If I could be guaranteed another 3 hour round, I might play the course again...otherwise I'm going to wait till they fix the greens.
Horrible greens
Unfortunately there were a number of greens that were in horrible shape. They looked like they may have been diseased and putting on them was impossible as they were filled in with sand. Not overly impressed with this course.
Wasted Potential
I've played this course twice now this summer. I had a bad experience a month ago, but decided to give it another chance. Should have stayed away. This course could be absolutely beautiful with its locations and the views it provides. Unfortunately it is so badly maintained that I'll be shocked if it is still open next year. There wasn't a single green that didn't babe brown dirt spots on it, the 4th is completely unputtable and they shouldn't even let people on it. The course layout is naturally difficult, lots of elevation changes and blind shots. I know golf is supposed to be hard, and some courses are just naturally harder than others. However if you're course is difficult you should keep it in good shape, because if your course is already difficult and it is poorly maintained well now it's just unfair. For example the 8th hole is a downhill par 3 that is about 230-250 yards. Tough hole, made tougher because the trees are so overgrown that the window off the tee box is tiny. Trees and bushes are overgrown everywhere and the greens are awful. The kid in the pro shop was very friendly and the food is good. This course is quickly turning into Gilette Ridge, look how that turned out. I hope they find a way to rejuvenate this tired track, because it really could be special. Right now it isn't even close to being worth the $50 they charge.
rough day
I have never been to a coarse where there is a shooting range within a mile. Makes no sense to me what so ever. All day long it seemed like gun shots going off was the theme music to me walking up to hit my ball. What an annoyance. I can deal with the fact that the greens have not recovered from the winter yet but I don't know how anyone can concentrate with all the noise bouncing off the mountains.
Not impressed at all.
A bit of a goat track
I expected more, based on the reviews. Shaggy all around, and most greens are still VERY beat up from a tough winter - maybe the only course around that is still struggling. Several holes are flat-out dumb -- including a downhill par-3 that plays 244 from the tips and 205 (!!!) from the whites. Entire place is in a general state of disrepair, although the cart girl was nice (cash only) as was the grille at the turn. Pro shop is sparingly stocked.
Always enjoy playing here
Usually a well-maintained course, but they're currently having some problems with the greens, most of which haven't recovered from the winter yet. Many large brown patches. I expect them to be much better in a few weeks as the weather gets even better and growth is optimal.
Good course for the cost
Interesting course, some tricky holes. Beautiful views on most of the course. I paired up with two guys that play there a lot and they were a lot of help. Greens need some work but they were out there in force working on them.
Rough shape
Played last year coarse was in excellent shape. Played 5/18/15 greens were terrible not sure if it's to early in the season but was not impressed with the condition of the coarse.
First round
Like many courses in the area, winter was hard on the greens. Staff was friendly, nice day , super saver was s great deal.
very nice
Great views of the country side during the fall season.'Course in great shape.Pace of play was very good.Had a fun day playing.Do yourself a favor and try this course out.We will again when we vacation in CT.
Nice course just takes a while to play.
Nice course at the base of the Tower in Simsbury. Most holes have a nice view of the tower and the leaves were staring to change which gave a little more picturesque view....the price of 39 dollars with cart is a good deal. The only complaint I would have it that it took 5 hours for a foursome to play and some of the tees seemed in odd locations, but as I am new to golf it could just be me. I did not use the restaurant or pub so I can not speak to that, but it seemed nice. One suggestion is that a cart is strongly recommended on this course. I normally walk but this is not the course for walking
Overall I enjoyed playing this course and will play again.
The golf is terrific and so is the view!
Great condition, amazing views from many of the holes and challenging on many of the holes. Enjoyed m first time there and thought the staff and restaurant were very good. Only complaint is the condition of the golf carts. Need a refresh.
