Private course conditions & amenities
Challenging bunkers & fast greens. Great pace of play, worth the spoils if you’re tired of the over crowding at the cheaper courses. People there tend to have better etiquette as well, greens were pristine. You get what you pay for!
Oasis in the Bronx
Beautiful course -challenging links play - keep it in the fairway and out of the fescue! Wind makes it play longer. Walked and was a pleasure. Clubhouse and views are gorgeous!
Gem in the city
Excellent track. Clubhouse amenities are great - feels like a private club. Course plays alot longer than advertised.
Scenery everywhere
What a layout, not only is the course amazing, thanks Jack, but the views are as well. The Manhattan skyline and the Whitestone bridge will give you views you won’t soon forget. As for the course it is treeless and has one or two holes with water but the intimidation comes from missing the fairways and the bunkers. The greens are large but have some subtle undulations that make them tricky. I would highly recommend you play this course if you are in the New York City area.
You get what you pay for - solid course
Overall, this is a great course that offers unparalleled ease of access for Manhattan-based golfers. Yes, it's more expensive than the local munis - but you're getting a course that's consistently kept in good condition, offers an excellent layout, and provides fantastic amenities (practice area, newly built clubhouse, etc.). Plus, it's 20-40 minutes away from most Manhattan locations vs. the 60-90 minute commute to other NJ / Long Island tracks.
The course is a difficult Nicklaus design, but offers a large variety of tees - if it's your first time playing, definitely move up a set (... or two) and enjoy the course rather than trying to play a certain yardage.
I've played here about 6-8 times, most recently on 04/24/19 - the course is still coming back from early season conditions (including aeration on the greens), but should be back to it's normal, excellent shape by about mid-May. The rough is pretty "clumpy" which leads to some brutally hard lies - but once the fescue grows in and the greens bounce back it's one of the best manicured tracks in the NYC area.
Not a difficult course to walk (except for a mildly lengthy walk from 9 green to 10 tee), so definitely don't be afraid to carry your own bag! Just know that there are *not* any pull carts offered here.
Finally, given the difficulty of the course and the higher cost (ranging from $100ish to $250ish depending on if you're a NYC resident / weekday vs. weekend / ride vs. walk) - you don't tend to see a lot of beginner golfers, and the pace of play is generally an improvement to other NYC courses as a result. Typical rounds are about 4-5 hours (usually right around 4:30), vs. the 5+ hour rounds you inevitably face playing the likes of Bethpage Black / Red.
NO PUSH/PULL CARTS ALLOWED
Beautiful course. Outstanding layout. There are still signs of aeration (should be perfect in about 2 weeks) greens are extremely hard read, very challenging (really really fun).
It should be noted, when they say walking rate, they literally mean WALKING, there are no push/pull carts allowed on the course.
Overall, this course it’d amazing, doesn’t not feel like you’re just 15 mins away from midtown Manhattan. INSANE VIEWS (so have your camera ready)
Great Course-Ok Value
Such a beautiful course. You forget your'e in New York when you play here. WIsh it wasnt so expensive though
Great Layout!
This Nicklaus layout was a treat to play. Challenging but very fair.
Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Had trouble with pace of greens, not used to greens that smooth or fast.
Overall, it was well worth the price for the experience.
A definite once or twice a year round.
As of today, the best course I’ve played in the metro area.
A real treat
To play a golf course of this quality on a reclaimed garbage dump was a real treat. Kudos to all involved.
Fabulous Municipal Course
I played the Trump Links course at Ferry Point - it was a fabulous experience. First, I must compliment the staff - friendly, helpful, courteous - really outstanding! The course is wonderful, lots of beautiful holes and views. I found the course to be very friendly - if you don't try to belt the ball and just keep it in play, you can score. I can honestly say that even though the course is expensive, I'll definitely return. Highly recommended!
So good it is underrated
This is a follow-up to my first review of this course a while back. The more I play it the more excellent features I notice and appreciate. Some people say the course gets repetitive, but I think that is because the middle of the course does have similar visual features- fairways, dunes and bunkers. But the holes strategically vary wonderfully. Rolling ground, rumpled fairways, subtle turns and angles, preferred angles due to hazards and blind spots. Nicklaus and team really got the details right. The greens and green complexes are challenging but fair and take a few tries to get the right feel. The finishing holes are outstanding. Just great golf holes throughout without gimmicks. The new clubhouse looks top notch and beautiful, with lots of spacious room and great views. For the overall public golf experience in this country, nothing quite matches Pebble Beach (I haven't been to Bandon), and Bethpage Black has its own unique status for munis, but Ferry Point is right in the mix of the next best top level public courses in America.
Remarkable course in available in NYC
Very pretty course, good layout, and very fair. Course conditions were beautiful. Surprising the quality of the grass on the fairways and greens. One of the best ranges and practice areas I have ever been to ever. I plan to play here regularly.
Great test
This is an exceptional course located within a 20 minute Uber ride of Manhattan. When the wind is up, you best bring your a game. Course conditioning is really good. Practice area is excellent. Staff is friendly. All the above is to be expected is the greens fees are Definitely premium. This is a good course to walk if you want as it mostly flat. Wind really gets kicking. This is a New York City publicly owned golf course managed by the Trump organization.
Too Expensive But Really Nice
Pace of play is great because so many locals simply refuse to play the course. If they lowered the rates $50 and took Trump's name off of it, it would be impossible to get on.
If you can get over the name (I have a hard time), it's such a treat. A wonderful and unique layout that, from the appropriate tees, is very, very playable. Fairways are wide and well maintained. The course is pretty much right out in front of you. Some day it would make a great PGA course for that reason.
Make sure you stop by the plaque the President had installed to commemorate his hole-in-one during the inaugural round on the course. He says he struck purely a 7-iron from 165, but Stormy Daniels says it was a limp 4-iron that came up well short. In any event, it may be the only plaque on any golf course in North America commemorating a hole-in-one that never happened. That alone makes it worth seeing.
The price is insane. I'd much rather spend the two extra hours of travel and go to Bethpage as a matter of principle. The guys in the pro shop are generally cold and presumptive. Dont expect a warm welcome. Just expect great golf.
If the staff was nicer, the price was lower, and the President wasn't such an arrogant jerk, I'd rate it higher. Four stars.
Good, not great
This course has the feel of a private course. You certainly are made to feel special and taken care of. The course is pretty and challenging. It however is surrounded by projects on one side and next to nothing attractive all the way around. I would say go play and get the experience however I would not seek to play is twice. I just prefer more scenic courses.
Non-NYC residents save your money.
Nicely conditioned. Great view. Tee times too close together. Forecaddie fee$220 for our foursome. Had incorrect yardages Did not rake bunkers. Did not clean clubs after round.
Best Public Course I've Played
Appropriate that this be my first review as this is hands down one of my favorite courses of all time - including private courses. Don't let the fact this course is in the Bronx throw you off - it is a beautiful course. The views of the skyline and bridges were great. Greens were very large, but not overly difficult as the speed was relatively easy to predict. I particularly liked that the hazards made it easy to find my ball if I sliced.
A must play
Course was exceptional. Layout is great. its a big bold course. Fairways are wide and greens were perfect. Yes $240 for a round of golf is very, very high, but I feel the experience is worth it. Everyone very friendly, Drew behind the counter and Seth outside, they went out of there way to make your day enjoyable. This is definetly a once a year course for me now. This joins Bulle Rock in Maryland as a special course to play.
