Nice greens but….
Overall the course needs $ to improve the conditions. Zero decent lies in the fairway or rough. Bunkers had little or no sand and the lips had not seen a weed whacker in weeks. Greens were in good shape and fast. Unfortunately whoever cuts the holes had trouble getting them in straight as many of the pins were leaning. To top it off, on a hot day no one bothered to fill the water coolers and put them into their housings on the course. They were sitting in the cart garage. Covid is no excuse as all other courses have them…
Fun course.
Apparently this course is a a year or two into an overhaul, and you can tell the work is paying off. The greens were some fantastic and challenging. Fairways in good condition except one of them which had a some bare spots but could be from over use in a dry summer. Tee boxes in good shape, bunker sand was soft and no pooled up water. Over all I’d play this course anytime.
Bluebear
Nice course for the money. Rough was thick. Needs to improve pace of play with ranger. Will be back.
In need of a Marshal
The place of play was ridiculous, took nearly 5 hours to play 18 and not a marshal or staff member was around to check on the pace of play. Golf was what you would expect from a public course and the staff was friendly and helpful. As a first time player, then even gave me a yardage book- which is something I’ve never seen any golf course ever give out. Only major complaint was just how slow it was;. Tees off at 230 but finished at around 715.
It's Coming...
They are doing a lot of on the course. Not that bad of shape. You really can't be critical because we're just getting into the growing season. Their greens were way better than Delcastles.
November golf
Course was in good shape. Starter was extremely friendly at the beginning of my round and the end of my round when I passed him on my way to vehicle.
Pace of play was slow, but it still beats doing yard work!! Will be back again.
Enjoyable round
I’ve been playing here for a while and again the course did not disappoint. For being the middle of Fall, the course was in pretty good shape. The fairways and rough were pretty lush and the greens rolled fast(they seem to be the best part of the course). My only issues were a few of the tee boxes, especially the par 3’s. They need to either be re-sodded or need a good amount of dirt and grass seed. Aside from that, this is an enjoyable course to play. It is fairly open but does offer some challenging holes that make you hit golf shots. I’m looking forward to playing here again. Especially when the range is open.
Sunday at Ed Oliver
Always a great price for a day here. I’m glad to see a net wall up along 16. A couple of the tee boxes were moved forward which was nice. Some tree trimming could help speed up play for people (like me) that don’t hit the middle of the fairways.
As always, the restaurant was a nice convenience after the round.
A terrific course
It was my first time on the Ed Oliver Golf Club course in Wilmington, DE. The course was in very good condition. Some greens were a little pockmarked, but nothing too serious. I rode in a cart, which worked fine, as expected. I found the course challenging, starting right off with several water hazards, requiring a good carry with the driver. I would play this course again, with great pleasure.
Water
It works be nice to have water or drinks on the course. And a ranger around to make sure foursomes are not are not skipping holes
Confused
We paid the regular amount for a hot deal on a Tuesday, the course was in bad shape lots of dirt spots my ball landed on in the middle of the fairway, the rough was either weeds or dirt, but the worst part was half the course was roped off due to construction of a new cart path which is fine but the workers were literally right in the middle of the fairway on a few holes and trusted us to just hit over them. Overall was not impressed with the conditions of the course and didn’t get a discount for all the work happening.
Tight fairways & greens - too many walkers
For a weekend early morning round, 5 hour pace is too long. The course allows walkers, so that slows things down. Good for the exercisers, not good for the pace. The fairways and greens are pretty tight with tree lines. Balls are easily lost in the rough which also doesn't help pace of play. The greens roll nicely and were in good shape. The bunkers are horrible with hard dirt or very little sand.
