Good track!

Overall nice condition. Greens tilted from back to front. Big difference in speed uphill vs. downhill. Looks easier than it is.

A salute to Camp Pendelton golf course

Just played the updated course at Camp Pendelton. They spent 1.6 million updating the course and clubhouse. The course is in great shape, the bunkers have been redone and the greens are fast. You have to register on their site for a background check which usually takes a week but it is worth it. Once you have been ok'd just show ID at the gate and get ready for some good golf.

Awesome restoration!

Played all 18 holes this Saturday and it was awesome! They just completed major restorations including completely rebuilt new sand bunkers. Bunkers were restored back to the original William Bell design and the GC looks like a new track. Green were rolling fairly fast and very true, fairways and tees were excellent. POP was fair, staff was great. I like that there are no homes around the GC, just golf and open hills.
Highly recommend you make the trip to play the newly restored Marine Memorial GC now that it's finished and all 18 holes are open, you will not be disappointed!

Disapointed

I was hoping that I would be able to play 18 holes. .I was not to happy when I got there, I was told that the back nine is close due to sand trap maintenance, When I booked this tee time they where no Advisory warning that the back nine was close. I came from a long ways just to find out it was close. Front nine greens were descent but not as good that other military course in San Diego,

Great value, fun layout

Marine Memorial was a great experience. From the ease of getting on base to the friendly staff, we had a fun day. The bunkers are currently being remodeled, but we were given several notices about this prior to playing, so there was no surprise at all.

Course layout was exciting and presented something new on every hole. There were a few elevation drops as well as some sneaky uphill holes that play a bit longer. I'd be nervous playing the course with the new bunkers as they look daunting (yet beautiful)! Greens rolled well and played relatively soft.

All in all, you can't beat the experience of playing a legit course with nice greens for under $50. Being on base made it even more special.

Walked

Great Value. Enjoyable and Relaxing

This course is very tranquil. No houses. No freeways. Nothing but you, your fellow golfers, and nature.
Older style course but still challenging. A very pleasant walk. no need to ride here.

Only downside was you had to walk up 50 stairs at the turn to get a beverage or snack and the service was slow. But hey, you are golfing, not working. it was a nice day.

Very enjoyable course.

The course is by itself in a valley between ridges. Because of this, it was quite wet, but much healthier grasses than other area courses. Other than military aircraft, there is not much else around to distract you. The layout has parallel holes, but significant space between fairways. I made the mistake of using the golf now "address" in my gps, and ended up on the wrong end of the base (gps uses addresses, golf now has a building number instead).

First time

I have been meaning to play this course for several years but just never got around to it. The course is tucked away by itself in a canyon so you really feel
like you're away from it all. The course has two nines which are quite different. The front goes out and back and isn't exactly inspiring. The back nine layout is more intricate so overall I found the experience enjoyable. Conditions were only so so due to recent storms and there were a fair number of downed trees between the fairways which are being removed and cleaned up. The course is obviously well maintained so I'm sure that conditions will be good once the weather improves. I plan to return later this year.

Great day

Wonderful golf course. Green's are superb, fairways in good shape. No water on the course and it's hard to get in trouble. We were a threesome and the foursome in front of us was very slow with empty holes in front of them. All in all, it was a great day at Marine Memorial and we'll definitely play here again.

Lovely course

Although it rained and the course was wet it was well laid and in better condition than most of the courses we played in the area. We were offered a refund as no buggies because of the rain but we walked and the course was stilll very playable.

Delightful day on the links!

I booked this course because of the $25 + fees ($3.49)/golfer "Hot Deal" offer on Golf Now and I'm glad that I did. My friend and I had a very nice time once we made the 45 minute drive from Del Mar to the course. While the fairways were not as lush as those at some courses (usually much more $$$), they were fine and had only rare bald spots or ground under repair areas. The greens were very nice and VERY fast. Even though this was our first time playing this course, it is laid-out so well that we had no trouble finding our way from the tees to the greens. (That does not mean that a lay-out map on new score cards in the future wouldn't be greatly appreciated.) Though we did not eat there, the restaurant was EXTREMELY busy with the base personnel, so I assume that the food must be pretty good. Lastly, while most of the holes were long, straight and fairly flat, there were the occasional high and large hills that made for a good variety of challenges. Whenever I can get another deal for this course, I'll play it and I recommend you do the same!

Spectacular

Good conditions. Great playing partners. Great greens and totally walkable with my pushcart and I'm a senior citizen and we walked and played in less than 4 hours. I play and walk everyday. When it snows in Minnesota I move to southern California. I play Everyday!

Marine golf

Enjoyed the course, particularly the greens which were lush and held approach shots well. The fairways were spotty in some areas but we're good by comparison to other nearby courses. Biggest negative was the rude group playing in front of us playing multiple balls, swearing and full swinging at balls while on the greens. They did more damage to the course during their round than the rest of the full day's complement of golfers. Too bad their CO wasn't there to observe!

Enjoyable round

Enjoyed an excellent course, the scenery and choppers flying overhead was a bonus for us. The greens/pin placement were challenging. Would definitely comeback. Our GPS took us to the Del Mar Main Gate, but we had allowed enough time to get to the San Luis Rey gate, but all was good.

great value!

if you want to have a stress-free, relaxing round, this is the place. fairways and greens are in good shape, except for bothersome gopher holes and activity. bunkers have some stones and need fresh sand. greens have a few marks that need attention. overall, a nice experience. small details such as ball-washers at the tees and convenient drinking water tanks are very well managed and in super condition. tees are level and not beat up.

Tough but fair

Haven't played this course in ten years Dianne I worked there going while going to school. Terrific bell course with small greens. Best shape I've it seen it. Warning if playing with wind present you better be able to hit a low ball. Bunkers good sand coverage. greens true not fast. Play this course if you get the chance.

Too bad the snack shack or Bev cart weren't running. Loss lot of income being a holiday.
