Great Condition and Challenge with Lots of Beauty

I have played Barnsley Resort several times. Every time I play, I always like even more the course. The course is always in great condition.

The practice area is first class. Range balls are included in the price of the greens fees. Very nice, large range with a separate chipping area.

The course was is excellent condition. Pace of play was exceptional. The course offers stunning views of the North Georgia mountains and features what I, as well as many others, consider the best collections of par 3's in all of Georgia. There is plenty of room off most of the tees. The greens are incredible. They are some of the quickest, most undulated greens I have ever played and the amazing greens simply add to the thrill of this awesome course. The bunkers are well kept and in great condition.

Barnsley Resort is a fantastic place to play. It is one of my favorite courses in all of Georgia.

Beautiful course with great golf

Combination of setting, course conditions, pace of play and layout makes this a top choice. All staff were extremely friendly. Layout is tough but greens were slightly more forgiving than some other semi-private course I have played which was a nice plus.

Not Worth the price

I had read the reviews online and looked at the pictures and the resort, and the course looked great. We drove in and had to drop our clubs at the bag drop ourselves. We then went inside and the lady was nice. We asked where the bathrooms were and we were directed into a hallway outside of the pro shop that was completely dark. We went out to a cart that was nice, but no GPS. We then went to the driving range to loosen up and found there were no balls. The range was nice but again no balls. Finally, a young man came over with balls. The reservation gave a aeration alert so I called a head and asked the condition, and was told they was some sand on the greens but overall they were in pretty good shape. The greens were 80% sand and a number of the tee boxes were in need of repair also. Overall, the course layout was excellent and the views were great. However, in the current condition, it is way overpriced. I only saw 3 people working the entire time we were there. Also, there was no landscaping anywhere on the course like the pictures indicate. The green fees are among the highest in Georgia for a public course and failed greatly in meeting our expectations,

Barnsley is Beautiful

This is a great place to play. It feels farther away than it is. Really a great layout with some crazy par 3s. Who know what the elevation drop is. It's borderline too expensive but when you compare it to other courses around north Ga, it's worth it. If your thinking about Governor's Towne, go here instead. Your money is better spent.

I did not anticipate how cool the “resort” aspect of this place would be. I wish I hadn’t made this a quick day trip. Would have loved to explore a little bit. This would be a nice place to do a small buddies trip or a couples weekend getaway that includes some golf.

This was my first visit, and while I am sure the place is swanky in the spring and summer, after playing it, Barnsley is a really good autumn golf course. Spectacular changes in the leaves on the surrounding hills frame drastic elevation changes throughout most of the course.

Due to temps in the mid 40s, I had the entire course to myself, which was a little soft due to recent rains. You are eased in with a couple of open dog-leg par 4s before you are exposed to a lengthy par 3 at the third.

I’ve seen a lot written about the collection of par 3s at the Fazio course at Barnsley. Not saying they aren’t good holes, but I think the fact that two of the four are 90-foot drops to the landing area is what gets people most excited. They are fun, but I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say “Best in NoGa.” Admittedly, I have a smaller sample size in this part of the state.

I thought the par 5s were real birdie opportunities. They aren’t overly long from the blue tees and bigger hitters should reach most of them in two if they are in command of their golf ball. The fairways are expansive and there are no tricked up landing areas, so conventional players won’t have a problem setting up a wedge approach. The par 4s play a little longer in most cases due to the aforementioned elevation changes. I think these brawny par 4s are the real challenge of the course. Playing them well are the key that will unlock a good score at the end of the round.

The greens were very pure and down-grain putts could get away from you.

The bunkering - both greenside and framing fairways were not overdone. They are, however, deep.

What I struggled most with was chipping and pitching. Closely-mown areas surround the greens before giving way to traditional light rough. Yet, every lie I encountered seemingly was into the grain. If you’ve ever chipped into the grain, you know what I’m talking about: wedges want to dig in and get stuck. You really have to use the club’s bounce here to navigate them well.

My favorite holes were the short par-4 fifth, which offers aggressive options off the tee, and the par-5 ninth that plays back toward the lake and clubhouse.

The practice area is top-notch. Good, expansive range with a separate chipping area. The pro shop is very nice with upscale brands. Loved the vibe in the clubhouse.

First-timer tip: Shell out $10 for a yardage book in the pro shop. There is no GPS on the cart or diagrams of holes on the scorecard or on tee boxes, so it will come in handy.

AWESOME Course - Great Conditions - Beautiful Place

I have played Barnsley Resort course several times. Every time I play the course I love the place more and more. It is by far the BEST course I have played in N. Georgia.

The greens are usually lightning fast and a true test and challenge. The greens were recently aerated, but are recovering very nicely, so with the recent aeration, the greens were rolling regular speed for any other course. The course is in great condition (fairways, bunkers, tee boxes, etc.). The course has the prettiest set of par three courses anywhere in the state (including Augusta National). The views and elevation changes from the par three holes are spectacular.

If you have the chance and time, go play Barnsley Resort. You will NOT regret or be disappointed. Just be ready to have your A game with your putter as the greens are super fast and a real challenge, but roll true and fair.

Great for hot deal price-$56

Normally this course is overly expensive but we found a great hot deal rate and made the drive. The greens had little slits in them almost like pre aeration marks but have no idea why as we were told aeration is happening in the next couple days. Anyways, course is in great shape and the speed of the greens didn’t bother us. However they were quick but true. I wish they had a course map or layout as some tee shots were swayed by looks instead of what you could actually hit...otherwise a fun round.

Great course...Greens unfair

Great resort and the fairways are in great condition. The greens are another story. The greens were so fast that I would categorize them as tricked up, The greens would not hold shots and if you missed the put the ball would roll of the green. I have played golf for many years on many golf courses and this was the fastest that I have ever played. Combine that with the length of the course and it was unplayable. Great place but the condition of the greens completely took the joy out of the game.

Challenging and fair

Beautiful and well maintained course with wide open fairways. The challenging aspect of the course is the speed of the greens. They roll true and are very fast (posted my first ever 5 putt). Probably 12 to 12-1/2. Overall, a great golfing experience.
