West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

White Pines West
Tee boxes in great shape for the most part. Greens would be much better if golfers repaired their ball marks and divots. I think the crew does the best they can.
Cart paths- fix them or remove them, none would actually be better.
Starter was great and the pro shop folks were nice too.
Finished at 12:30 pm and never saw a cart girl. Maybe she was off or running late.
Pros and a con
Staff was friendly and course was in great shape.
Pace was a little slow, partly because of their carts and GPS. We ran into unannounced and unmarked 'restricted' areas. Some of these were as far as 20 yards from a green, or even between the tree lines that border each fairway. Also annoying was the incessant 1) advertising on the GPS that you had to manually 'click' out of to get distances and 2) reminders to repair divots.
GPS should speed up play, not slow it down.
Great bang for your buck
I played this course for the first time this year. I’ve been back several times. This is the absolute best bang for buck course in the area. The course has been in good condition every time I played. Course is fun and somewhat challenging. Staff is friendly. Place of play is always around 4 hours even on Saturdays.
Great course. To bad they sold it and turning it into a subdivision
HIDDEN GEM!
Me and my buddy played this course as a twosome on Tuesday at 640 am. We didn’t see the group ahead of us after the first tee. No group behind us rushing us.
The course is a bit beat up and it was under wet conditions after a big rain, but still a great quality course.
Divot marks on the greens were mostly fixed but hit a few bumpy lines they actually give you grass seed to repair fairway divots u like a lot of courses I’ve been to in the Chicago area this month.
The carts have gps that is very accurate and constantly remind you to repair divots. They are a little skiddish before greens or in “wet areas” that are sometimes hard to spot before you enter them and then are forced to reverse out of.
The staff in the club house and handling the carts were all super friendly! Joked around with a cart hand, and some greens keepers. The lovely lady in the pro shop happily exchanged my dollar bills to get a drink out of a vending machine.
Overall we will definitely be back especially at the rate they charged. I have defiantly played worse courses this month for more money.
Very fun layout not too hard. Just check for hidden water hazards and try not to lose your ball in the thick rough! All in all a great time at a fun course for an amazing price!
Rounded up to 4 stars
Course was nice and lush. Good layout. Green's played true. Carts choke up every so often. They just stop sometimes. The course people have a way of restarting the carts. But they should post them on the carts. It is such a hassle when carts die.
Also they had 'cart path only' in effect. If you violate, the cart stops. Fair enough, but they need to make it known.
Hots dogs were good. Pro shop friendly.
