Not even the price can save this place
It gets old making the same joke every time your ball is unplayable... "Well, it's only $25 a round". But that's not why I'm leaving a negative review. I'm used to the undulating tee boxes and challenging fairways of cheap courses.
The bad review is because there is an employee at this course that outright lies about tee time availability. The employee is extremely confrontational and creates opportunities for conflict. Literally, every time (x3) I've booked a tee time, there's been a "problem". There's always some confusion added unnecessarily. Like: "ok, you were 3:30? Let me make sure that works..." What's the problem, I've booked so send me out.
The employee micro manages cart distribution by not allowing certain tee-times to even rent a cart "just in case someone else shows up and wants one (whether or not there are any others booked)". I've been asked to switch carts twice because I'm solo and there's a broken one for me to use and leave the one I've already touched for someone else (twosome). Final straw was the employee following me outside to confront me about touching too many buggies. I had to touch so many while looking for one that still had straps and a single cup holder not dangling off.
You couldn't pay me $25 to ever play this course again.
Poor condition
The greens were in decent shape but that was the only good thing about this course, besides the staff. The course was in horrible condition and pace of play was very slow.
Bit pricey for what was there.
This is a true links course, with tight holes and an interesting layout. It was fun, played fast, and was great for my skill level (intermediate) as it's mostly par 4s with a few par 3s. However the grounds were not super well maintained (park district funding) and not a lot of amenities. Also the pace of play dragged a bit. If it were mid week, and I had paid less, I definitely would repeat for the fun. But the drive and price weren't worth the lack of upkeep and amenities for a weekend round for me when I could invest the same time driving away from the city and get so much more.
Tee Mats for Tee Boxes
1) Tee Mats for tee boxes
2) Staff tried to charge us $75 each for the round
It’s okay if you’re learning how to golf and you don’t want to leave the city, but your dollar goes way further at other courses nearby.
Rough course
Hitting off mats for 5 holes, course is incredibly narrow, fairways are in awful condition, and pace of play is bad. Good for first-time golfers but no one else.
Do no play
The course is poorly kept and the fairway intertwine so you are bound to have a ball hit by you. Also you’re hitting off mats for 5 holes. Just awful.
Terrible
Almost every hole is a drivable par 4 or a long par 3 that you need to use a driver to reach. Using the longest tees means you hit off a mat. I don’t think I’ll ever be back. It might be the worse course I have ever played.
Course needs maintenance
Negatives: Lots of bald areas, fairway and rough are indistinguishable, and ground is so dry that it’s tough to put in the tee.
Positives: great for high handicap players to learn about consistency since it’s less likely for players to lose balls
Not bad far from great
A little over priced used to be able to play this course for about half the price not sure if it flu related.
Worst golf experience ever.
I’m not one to write reviews, but there is some things I wish I knew before golfing here that I will share now. Firstly, this is a Chicago Forest Preserve golf course, so I wasn’t expecting much . With that said, this may be one of the worst condition golf course in the Chicago area. It’s one of those courses where there is no indistinguishable difference between the rough and the “fairway”. The “fairway” is actually more dirt than it is grass. The hard, dry, thirsty dirt fairways are as hard as a rock. Oh, there’s also only one grass tee box. One of the only courses I know of that still uses matt teeboxes. Bad sign. All other chicago forest preserve courses removed those over a decade ago. Ok, so course quality is abysmal. The course DESIGN is also atrocious. Firstly, once you tee off on 1, you are not seeing the clubhouse again until you get to hole 18. To be clear, you do not have ANY chance to go to the clubhouse after teeing off of hole 1. There’s no water stations, beverage cart, halfway houses..etc. We walked the course on this hot Friday afternoon and actually had to hop the fence on 13 to go to a McDonalds to get drinks because we were getting so dehydrated. We called the clubhouse and offered a tip to deliver us drinks but of course to no avail. Basically, if it’s a hot day and you’re walking, you will most likely run out of water and become very miserable from the dehydration. The teeboxes and holes are setup in the worst possible way, always hitting into or near a Different holes fairway. To paint this picture, there are even some holes that share the same fairway.. I’ll let you wrap your head around that one. It’s just not right. Wouldn’t even recommend this place to beginner golfers even with how easy it is because of this reason. The only nice thing I could say about this course is the greens were in relatively good shape in comparison with the rest of this joke of a golf course. If they put half as much effort into anything else about this course, it might be a decent track.
Pretty bad experience

Good course for the price
Good course, the black tee's are all matted with cement around them. It seems like wasted space, we typically tee'd off behind them if there was room since the course is short. Mosty holes are between 200-275, the longest whole was 319 if I remember correctly, took us 3.5 hours to play we had two walking and two on pull carts.
Ok course
the course was OK but hole 13 was completely botched (tree work) and there was no notice. We also felt VERY rushed, even with a pace of 2 hours at hole 12!!
Layout was also weird and hard to follow...
There were also mats at some tee-offs which was off'-pudding since I didn't want a driving range.
Great Course
Always a good time at Edgebrook. The greens at this course a very well kept. It's a really fun course, with diverse holes. Saw a couple of deer on the course, and various hawks.
