South Shore Golf Club
About
South Shore Golf Club was formerly a private nine-hole course but now it is part of the Chicago Park District Golf collection, which features five other courses. Although it is seemingly out of the way, tucked in the southeast corner of the Chicago metro area, it is one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the area. Through the stands of mature trees, golfers can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan. The carefully preserved landscape has earned the golf course recognition as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The par-33 layout features tree-lined fairways and small greens. It's a golf course that requires accuracy but it's not overly punishing for high handicappers. South Shore Golf Club is a great course if you're looking to get some short game practice or squeeze in a quick round.

Great Views
Came here on a Monday at 5pm after some rain. Had the whole course to myself. Place is in great shape sans a couple spots on some fairways. Amazing views of Lake Michigan. I love that 9 hole course.
Hidden gem!
Loved that it was right on the lake! Staff was super nice and great vibes. Course itself could be kept up a bit better but overall it was great and I plan to go back!
6th Hole
I worry that the lake is going to destroy this hole. Please dont let this treasure be lost, this is one of the most beautiful holes in our city if not the most beautiful!
A tucked away 9 hole course on the southside of Chicago
First time playing the course. Was a little worried with proximity to the city that it would be pretty busy. And it was, but the pace was actually pretty constant moving for an early tee time on a Sunday. Be warned that the holes bordering the streets are pretty tight. A righty slice and you could find yourself on south lakeshore drive. Lots of couples when we played so wasnt much pressure. A few holes being worked on. Nice view of the skyline on hole 2. Tighter fairways and holes sorta overlapping when walking to next tee areas. Just need to be a lil more alert when walking. I actually think higher handicap/shorter hitting players would enjoy the course more than low handicaps. Enjoyed our round!
9 holes in less then 2 hours
Had a 7 am tee time. Fast rate of play even with work being done on the course by staff. Our two some finished in 1 hour 40 min.
Small but the lake
Small tight city course. It’s super cheap and you get 2 holes on the lake, which is nice. Down side old dudes without tee times jumping in line and bad golfers abound slows it down a bit.
GREAT SHORT COURSE!
Well designed. Starts out with 4 par 4’s that let you loosen up with driver. #6 is an iconic short par 4. Bent putting greens are small targets and in great shape.
A Great 9 hole experience.
I love this track! The employees there (especially Derrick) are very accommodating and helpful to their customers.
It has 3 of the toughest par 4’s I play (holes 2,3 and 4) some beautiful views of Lake Michigan. It’s a great bang for the buck!
Thanks so much for your review, Kevin! We are happy to hear you love this track and found our staff so accommodating. We hope to see you back soon.
Rude course staff
The lady inside was very nice. The ranger one the other hand was rude. First off, he wasn’t even there when we tee’d off. Then this guy jumped back on the course after finishing 9 and the rancher didn’t even know. There is much more that happened insulting us, allowing a guest he clearly knew to heckle us. I will Never come back to this course. I’m working on getting better and to tell me I can’t play. And to ask my friends if they know how to scrabble?!? Who says that as a ranger? If he would have seen our game he would have known we clearly know how to play. I will be calling tomorrow to complain.
South shore
Good course, however very slow. Would love for a ranger to keep pace consistently and assist faster players to play-thru. Also, this course has tee boxes very close to the greens, so it is definitely play at your own risk. Beautiful course with two holes on the lake, overall good time. Very well kept for a course within the city. Would recommend
Friendly Staff
Booked this course since it was very convenient for the brief amount of time I had for the day. Friendly staff and not very busy. The course is a little old, but decently maintained for the location. What was most frustrating is the extremely hard ground and lack of grass around the greens, and on the outer edges of the fairway. Digging the tee into the ground was at times very challenging due to the soil being rock hard, and it was nearly impossible to get under the ball when you’re 40 yds of the green. Again the staff was great, but we weren’t fans of the course itself.
cheap, on the lake
The bunkers on the course do not appear to be made of sand -- they look more like dirt with some mulch and rocks mixed in. Thankfully I avoided them easily. The course is on Lake Michigan and the views are nice. The South Shore cultural center is in the middle of the course -- it's an old and in disrepair, but charming. This is a fine place to play if you want something cheap and in the city.
Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to hear you had a great time on our course and enjoyed the amazing views. We hope to see you back again soon.
