South Shore Golf Club
About
South Shore Golf Club was formerly a private nine-hole course but now it is part of the Chicago Park District Golf collection, which features five other courses. Although it is seemingly out of the way, tucked in the southeast corner of the Chicago metro area, it is one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the area. Through the stands of mature trees, golfers can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan. The carefully preserved landscape has earned the golf course recognition as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The par-33 layout features tree-lined fairways and small greens. It's a golf course that requires accuracy but it's not overly punishing for high handicappers. South Shore Golf Club is a great course if you're looking to get some short game practice or squeeze in a quick round.

Great deal and a great view
First time playing here and it was a perfect morning to golf. 78 degrees and no wind. The club house is really interesting and the overall feel is nice. Parking is a dollar which is great. The Greens are in pretty good shape and the tee boxes are okay. The views are awesome on a few holes that border the lake. I plan to golf here often.
Enjoyable but not too difficult.
The course is a 9 hole Chicago Park District course. It was the old South Shore Country Club which is long gone. It is now a cultural center and there is a stable for the Chicago Mounted Police and a small beach. The course is Billy Casper managed and was pretty well maintained. The greens were in good shape and so were the fairways with good roll. It was short and pretty easy with some narrow fairways. There were good views and we enjoyed the round. Unfortunately there was no place to have a sandwich and beer on site.
wrigley field of golf in chicago
what a great fun little course, priced right too!
trees play a BIG factor here,
there's really nothing to complain about here, what negatives there are, the atmosphere and convenience make up for it. parking lot, cashier, 1st and 9th all located together. good practice area near the shore with bunkers, and greens to warm up or practice. lots of views of lake michigan chicago and indiana
lots of history in this place, architecture and course have alot fun facts hidden in them
if your gonna be in chicago forawhile you should check this place out at least once.
Great Value
Perfect city course - unpretentious and full of character. If you need complete silence and upscale environment, stay in the burbs - this ain't the course for you. If you like a beautiful 9 holes (two of which offer incredible Lake views), in the heart of the city, then you'll love this. You'll get to work on your irons and even open up on a few holes with a driver. Great course for bogey golfers to work on their game.
Some of the roughs were pretty thick, but it's just more incentive to stay fairway. Early morning played a lot quicker than mid-morning, especially on the weekend. Great Value.
Step Back in Time
You drive through the old gates of what used to be an exclusive country club decades ago and head towards the coolest clubhouse I have ever seen. Tom Bendelow design (he also designed Medinah) that was built in 1905, and it definitely has an old world feel to it. Tree lined fairways and small greens. The course is right on Lake Michigan, and you get some awesome views on 2 and 6. Overall, just an awesome little facility that is definitely worth playing.
9 holes with a view
How fortunate are we to have the opportunity to play
a course for so little $$ that borders Lake Michigan with view of the Chicago and Indiana skyline.
Unbelievable friendly service. Rough a bit long, but you should not be there anyway!
