Rain
Course is always nice to play, but it was very wet that day. Still like the course after all it’s January.
Great people, solid design!
The condition of the course was very good--especially considering my round was was in late October, their off-season. The pub was open nevertheless and the staff everywhere (grounds crew, pro, bartender, manager) could not have been more helpful and cordial! I WILL, like MacArthur, return!
Great Layout
I found the course to be challenging. Small elevated greens, tight on some holes and a lot of water. I’m a single digit handicapper, and I found it to be a challenging. The greens could be faster and rolled but I still had a lot of fun
Nice Layout, but NEEDS WORK
Nice staff, not a bad track. The course however was in the worst shape of any place I’ve played for a while. Not being able to find balls in the fairway, unplayable bunkers, greens that had severe damage. Greens can be damaged by weather, but there’s not a real good reason that the fairways and bunkers were in the shape they were. Won’t be back until I know things are much better. Again, nice layout and kind staff. Course needs some serious love.
Waiting for fair grass to return. But course was in good shape and fun to play.
Course was good shape for mid summer
Good course for the money to bad it is a hour and half away from nag’s head or would of played a couple times. Only bad thing they have a geese problem they were all over some of the greens.
Best Buy and friendly staff.
Drove from Kitty Hawk. A bit of a drive but worthwhile if you make it a whole day excursion to include the charming Edenton small town afterwards. Super professional and friendly staff. Very nice and well stocked pro shop. I enjoyed the course even though the greens were under temporary repair. Not too much water challenge on the course and a moderate number of sand traps. Will come back.
Good Day for Old Duffer
I took a neighbor with me, who hadn't played in awhile. We both enjoyed the round.
We met some folks from New Jersey, who also enjoyed themselves. They were going back the next day!
No Expectations Still Disappointed
The staff was very informative before our round, prepared us for the poor conditions, let us know the plans to renovate in the near future. Got some decent exercise and spent time with family most important thing.
Needs major work
Used to love this course but since it was closed down and mot maintained it now needs major work to most of the course. The greens are on very bad condition and the sand traps are hardpacked and weed filled. I hope with time it will be back to the old pines if not better
Re Building
Haven’t played this course in over eight years, have played it numerous times In the past. The course has changed hands in ownership over the years since I’ve played there and it has really went downhill. The staff that are there now said all the greens were being replaced and the cost was going to be brought back up to somewhere where it was before. If this is all accomplished and I would definitely recommend the course. It’s a nice track just been let go unfortunately wish them luck. Look forward to hopefully going back once the changes have been implemented again cannot comment enough on the friendliness of the staff.
Welcome Back
I played this course yesterday for the first time in about 10 years, I used to work in that area and have played there several times. The course seems to be on the right track to recovery, I believe they’ve been closed down for a couple of years and just reopened a couple of months ago. Fairways were in decent shape, there has been snow and rain recently so ground was soft, no run much at all, grass appeared to be mowed but was still thick.
Greens were in pretty bad shape but it’s been down for couple of years so I didn’t expect them to be in great shape. After speaking to one of the staff members it seems like the new owners are trying to get the place back in shape. I will definitely play more rounds there and am looking forward to seeing the course return to the shape it used to be in. Layout is great but also a challenge, lots of water comes into play on this course but it’s still a lot of fun. Overall I enjoyed my round out there amongst the pines.
Gone to seed
The course was in limbo and not maintained while the new owners negotiated for a lower price.
The greens are thin or nonexistent, the fairways are bad and the bunkers have weeds growing in them.
The layout is good and it’s salvageable but it’s going to take time.
On the bright side the Rueben was good.
YMCA at the Pines
Monday, Midday, so no crowd at all. The course is great, the only complaint is there is so much debris from the trees I lost so many balls, some in the fairway. Otherwise, greens were in good condition, bunkers were almost all in play after lots of rain. Just need to get rid of that debris!
We love hearing about our golfers' experiences, Andywhit. Please tell us more about what you enjoyed during your round. Thanks for choosing The Pines at Elizabeth City!
