Nice upgrades
Remodeled course is looking good. Back nine played extremely slow, where was the Marshall to get people in gear(?).
Our Fave Local Club
Singing Hills (@ Sycuan Resort) used to offer 3 courses from which to choose. Willow Glen and Oak Glen are both full length. Pine Glen was an executive course. (According to one of the marshalls, that parcel of land was sold and there is now a soccer facility being built out in its place. No worries, as we never really played that course. But, I do hope the new soccer facility won’t take from the coveted serenity of this area.) Willow Glen is the most challenging course as it winds around and up into the hills a bit with fun tee boxes perched from above. Oak Glen stays mostly in the valley, though there is plenty of trouble with water and picturesque trees everywhere. The grounds are very well managed. The landscape is beautiful and the greens like carpet. It’s a verdant oasis nestled in a valley between the hills. We love all the new waterfalls, fountains and lakes features that have been recently added. The therapeutic beauty is so worth it. There seems to be constant improvements in process going on.
There is a food cart that is “usually” making the rounds, as well as a full size restaurant and snack bars (with restrooms) for food and drink options. There are also convenient restrooms (not portapotties) available out on the courses.
And there is an abundance of scenery of which is a big part of our therapy when golfing. We like to play here (1-3) times each month as possible on a week day. It has been rare to experience issues with pace even though this is a popular course in the East County of San Diego. That’s a good indication that they do a great job of booking tee times.
The carts are new and comfy w/ leather seats, full windshields, a nice GPS system monitor and even Bluetooth speakers if you want to play music through them. I especially appreciate the USB charging inputs for my iPhone. (Bring a cord if you like to keep your device fully charged.) There are even coolers and ball cleaners installed on them. Plus ball cleaners at each tee box.
Besides all the flora, the grounds are always clean and tidy. Singing Hills makes for some gorgeous photo ops. Our favorite course is Oak Glen. It’s a peaceful place. Except when we feel like tossing a club. But, that’s not the course’s fault.
Singing Hills
Great course, awesome conditions, greens were supper.
Single Golfers Beware
I played here on a slow weekday. After paying for my round and cart (almost $100) in the pro shop, I was informed by a staffer they pair up all single golfers in a cart. This was news to me and they have never done this before. When I asked about this, the staffer brushed me off. He then informed me they didn't actually have another single to pair me up with, BUT I'd have to wait around until they did. This was a slow day at the course and there were at least 30 to 40 available carts outside the pro shop. So instead of just giving me the cart I'd already paid for, he told me I could have my own cart for an additional fee or wait around indefinitely until another single showed up. Since I wanted to golf and not wait around, I paid more on top of the $100 I had already paid. The staffer actually seemed happy he'd cornered me in paying an additional fee. What a horrible experience!
The whether was bad. After 5 holes played, it was raining and thunder storms. We requested raincheck, but they refused. They told us either wait till the rain stop or leave the course. It was terrible.
New renovations are great.
More water makes course more difficult. We like to play by ourselves however think allot of twosomes impacted pace of play. Waited a long time on almost every hole. Twosomes behind us asked to play through. Advised they would not go anywhere. Backed up, we let them thru and we waited longer for them each hole. More than annoying...........
Course in great shape
Played Oak Glen and it was in great shape. Fairways were mostly immaculate and greens were pure although a little slow probably due to the rain. A few puddles in fairways and rough but that was to be expected. It was walking only which I was happy about since cart path only slows everything down. Not many people out there and finished in just over 3 hours for an afternoon round. First time playing it since the updates and overall I thought they did a good job with it. However, I think some of the trees they removed took away some of the shot making strategy. The only gripe I have is that they are putting in a bunch of mulch in the areas they took grass out of and I think it looks terrible. The mulch is filled with trash and they are laying it down real thick and lumpy. The course is green and the mulch gives it a bad aesthetic. I think if they were trying to go for something like pine straw or wood chips it should be a thin, smooth layer that can be played out of. They’re putting it down several inches deep and it’s not even whatsoever. I don’t know if they cheaped out on it cause the amount of trash mixed in with the mulch is gross looking especially for a course that asks for over $100 on weekends.
Back up the cart!
I get it, soggy fairways kept carts off. But, with cart GPS - please give us a warning when we are off the desired path. We spent serious time backing-out of areas which were NOT the fairway. Maybe use a differentiating color on the paths you want us to be within.
Unbelievable course.
Whoever designed this course that meanders through some of the most stunning landscapes of any golf course I have played is to be congratulated. It isn’t an easy course and I can’t imagine anyone trying to walk it but the scenery alone is worth the booking fee.
Great Condition! Perfect fairways and greens
They are keeping this course in top condition. Honestly, the fairways are like carpet. The greens have the perfect amount of softness. With the right loft you get a good stick. All around, the course was in great condition. It’s always a challenge to get over the water holes. Only drawback is the small bodies of water, very murky. They really need a better pump system or another waterfall in the newest additions. The water is brown and thick with debris. Not important for the golf game just the aesthetics. We really appreciate the new level of care invested in this course.
