Golf at Forest of Dean G.C. Coleford uk.
Tee off was 13.39pm and I was looking forward to returning to this course after thirty nine years! the layout seemed different from what i can remember, the fairways were ok and not a problem playing off these, however the Greens were terrible, grass on most to long and patchy with a uneven surface in places, made putting rather a lottery....I know the owners need to try and keep the course open to bring in much needed revenue, but I wonder if the poor comments will ultimately do more damage than perhaps keeping it closed for a little while longer to give the ground a chance to dry out and for the Greens to be prepared correctly for the Summer season ahead.
Gone downhill
Yes the weather has been poor this winter, but still off mats all 18 holes, one hole closed , 4 temporary greens. All greens very poor. Course not particularly wet either. Have enjoyed playing here previously, will leave it a while before I return. Society out the same day, they said they won't be back.
Great layout.
Course over all is a very good course. 17holes were open and some holes had temporary greens and temporary tees. The fairways were all in very good condition and when everything is open this looks a fantastic course. With all the rain we have had it's to be expected and nice to see a course protecting greens rather than keeping them open, only to cause more damage. Staff in the shop and club house were very friendly. Over all a great experience. Thanks.
Forest of Dean
I know it’s been really tough for golf courses with heavy rains over the winter period , but it was disappointing that there was no guidance on how many holes were on temporary greens (there were quite a few) although it was clearly communicated that holes 12 and 13 were not open for play so that was appreciated. If you haven’t played the course before it’s not the best layout or clearly marked to find the next tee when you walk off the green.
That said I am sure in the summer this would be a really enjoyable course to play as it has some intersections holes , the hot deal though did make the course great value so still enjoyable and good value overall.
Don’t play in winter
The course only had 12 holes open, 50% of which had temporary shocking greens, the holes and greens that were closed looked really good but we weren’t able to play them, no mention on any website or social media that me paying for my group would not include a full course, very very poor, the worst course I’ve played at. In the summer it could be completely different but do not go here in the winter, or when it’s been wet. I will not be returning.
Enjoyable round
Really friendly staff in pro shop.
Only 16 holes were open due to the recent weather with a number of temporary green.
Course was in decent enough condition considering the weather we have had and was an enjoyable round with friendly members.
Would love to come back in the summer months in what is an enjoyable course.
Conditions of the greens- not good enough
The course is one that is interesting to play. Quite pretty in some places too. However the greens this time round are in a terrible state. Seems like they are attacked by something. very patchy and bumpy. No point in trying to putt.
Nice steady round at Bells
Very laid back atmosphere on a cloudy and changeable day that kept mostly dry.
Went off just ahead of booked time which as not structured after practice putting on what was
probably the worst practice green I have come across. No driving range sadly but course conditions were very good and had an enjoyable round. Buggies were however expensive at £30 a round so declined one this time.
Good challenge for average golfer
Played at the course a few times and always enjoyed the round. Recent visit may have been badly timed as greens had been tined and sanded and grass left long - lottery for putting. We also had a strimmer following us and fairway mowing without proper recognition of impact on players. Still enjoyed it though.
Forest of Dean
Course in great condition, greens were consistent and allowed good approach play. Slow play but sun was shining so not a great issue.
Wonderful day again
Had a fantastic day here again at the Forest of Dean golf club, The facilities are good and we had coffee before teeing off. This round was made all the better as last time I played here 2 weeks ago I submitted a review and was informed I had won the monthly prize which happened to be the yellow and navy Taylormade 2023 Open staff back complete with 3 headcovers and 2 putter covers . A big thank you to GolfNow and the bag was shipped to me promptly from Belfast. The course was in immaculate condition. Will be playing again.
Always a decent course
Good value for money, good layout and a fairly easy walk.
Played here a few times and never have any complaints
Fantastic well kept course
Had a fantastic day here with a friend on a well kept course.
We had a buggy which was £30 and we only paid £15 each for the tee time with Golf Now.
The clubhouse was great or a coffee before and after the round.
Real friendly people too from the Pro shop to the clubhouse.
Howling drunks shouting swearing zero course etiquette spoilt otherwise nice round
Yob people allowed to play this course. Why anyone would wish to illegally enter this country based on Saturday’s experience is beyond me.
This hotel course seems to have zero manners from the lunch table to the golf course…Al about the money!
A good course for the winter
Great greens, they have really looked after them over the winter. Great value and hospitality.
Surprisingly good
After a spell of wet weather and being a bank holiday I was forced to find a golf course with availability within reach of home
I booked the course and was quite impressed by the calm manner in which we were informed that only 11 holes were open.
Pressing on we found the conditions a bit ragged due to the recent rains and lack of attention over the previous Xmas and new year period with temp greens and tees in use but all agreed that under better skies this would be a welcome change from our home course
Another great round
We’ve played Bell’s 2 weeks in a row and both times it has been excellent.
Hi, We are due to play there tomorrow and were hopeful that all greens would on. How many were on temps?
Many thanks
