course needs attention
Haven't played Regent since last season. I was disappointed by the condition of the course. Fairways need fertilizer & turf on greens very weak. The bunkers were in good shape, nice sand. A little love and this course can be super. Friday brought out some real hackers, pace was extremely slow.
Course needs some attention quick
I have been playing Regent for 14 years. I played regent in October 2014 and it was in the best shape I had ever seen it. However, this past weekend April 2015 the course was in the worst shape I have ever seen it. The driving range felt like hitting balls in a cow pasture. The tee box was dirt and weeds. No Grass. On the course the rough and tee boxes were uncut weeds. Some of the bunkers had weeds growing in them. The greens were in good shape but that was about it. It took us over 5 hours to play. One player in our group paid over $65. For that price you can play numerous better courses in the area. I hope they can turn it around before it gets out of hand but honestly I think it may already be there.
Once great, now very average
I am a local who used to play this course frequently as one of my favorites. A few years back, the ownership changed and it went downhill fast. It was once the best practice facility around. It once had the best bentgrass greens around. The recession nearly killed this course, and it hasn't bounced back much. Still an admirable track as layout goes, with some great par 3"s and a solid finishing 3 hole stretch. Greens are not in good shape, usually. Anything off the fairway is a coin flip, whether it ends up in poison oak, deep rough, or hard pan slinging it un-findable. As a result of the general condition, it attracts players of lesser experience who do not fill divots or repair ball marks. Picky, I know, but lesser quality players beget lesser quality courses. Far better options in the area.
Confirmed Tee Time - Turned Away After Driving 30 Minutes
I had a tee time that I purchased through Golf Now. Arrived to the course, got out of my car and one employee stopped me and told me to go home and asked if I just called (which I did not). He seemed like he wanted to leave work early and did not try to accommodate us.
I have been to this course many times and enjoyed playing - this experience has changed my previously positive review of this course.
This course has great features
The layout of the course is good but not worth the cost at this time of year.
Terrible price for course in even worse condition
The course was in awful condition. It's clear that management/ownership have no interest in trying to fix the obvious issues. The wooden bridges look like something out of a horror film. Several greens were in bad shape while others were clearly vandalized at some point but no repairs had been attempted. If I can help it, I won't be back.
Crazy greens...pretty much fun
Had a good time. Played with my wife and a friend and his 12 year old son. Played in four hours. No hassles. Greens are a little crazy and playing a second time would make some holes easier. The par 5's are all tricked up! Lot's of deer tracks in the bunkers!
Great , fun Golf Course
Great greens, fast, fun and tricky! A challenging course, but one the average golfer can score on. Some easy holes, some challenging holes and some difficult holes. A shot makers course
Best Shape in Years
I've been playing Regent for 13 years and it was in the best shape that I have ever seen it. The greens were soft as usual and rolled nicely. There were a few ball marks that were not repaired but overall the greens were great. The bunkers were in top shape and so were the fairways. I will be playing again soon.
Regent park gc
Scenic challenging course that is well maintained. Fun to play even from Gold tees. Very challenging from Blues and whites.
Greens need help!
Fairways are in good shape however the greens need overhauling.
Pleasant Surprise
I've been playing Regent Park for 5+ years and it was a little tough to read some of the previous reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday. While the course was a little more crowded than I anticipated for an afternoon round, everything moved as smoothly as it could. The starter/ranger was polite and made numerous rounds around the course to ensure pace.
The course was in good shape. The majority of the tee boxes were in great shape. Fairways were on the plus side of OK with just a few areas needing work. Bunkers had been raked and it looks as if they might have added sand at some point. Greens were quite soft, but this is normal for Regent. They were very receptive and rolled true (sometimes quick). The main issue on most, if not all, of the greens was some scarring from folks neglecting to repair their pitch marks. Whoever cut the holes today was definitely in a bad mood, which made for comical pin positions (and usually a good laugh when I saw them).
You can tell the carts are starting to age but I didn't have any issues with mine. The practice facility (I didn't use) is beginning to take shape and is looking much better. The staff in the clubhouse was friendly and got me on my way quickly.
I really can't remember any 'real' issues that I had on the course. Regent Park (while aging) played as it always has and I was very happy with that. I will be coming back to play again.
Missing the little things
Staff was well organized and sent the groups off in a timely manner on a busy day. Practice range is nice with good grass but balls were pretty rough (many had damage). Putting green in good shape - speed matched greens on course.
Course layout consisted of a lot of doglegs and rolling hills - fairly interesting. Greens on the course appeared pretty poor with many spotty areas but they rolled true and were very receptive to even hybrid approaches. They were very sloping and 3-putts were always a risk if you were on the wrong level. Fairways and tees in good shape. All course bunkers were not raked and it was your best guess what was underneath when hitting out.
Some minor additions/repairs would have made this more enjoyable. Got lost a couple of times because of a lack of signage to the next hole. Only on course drinking water was coolers on #1 and #10 (?) and no beer cart. A few of the bridges had what appeared to be rotting plywood covering big holes - need to be fixed right. Overall, it was an enjoyable enough round but not quite worth the $50 greens fee.
Terrible Greens - No Ranger/Allowed a Fivesome at the 1st group
The greens were in absolutely awful shape. Not only were there old ball marks everywhere, they were slow and had patches of dirt all over them. No grass whatsoever.
To make things even worse, we teed off at 7:35 AM and caught up to a FIVESOME after 6 holes. That's right, a FIVESOME as the first group off to start the day. Whoever is running the pro shop and allowed that to happen should be fired. The round took nearly 5 hours and there wasn't a single ranger in sight. Just pitiful.
regent
Nice course, greens need some work, but overall well maintained course
Regent Park
Tees and fairways were in great shape, bent greens were very playable but stressed from the heat. Bunkers were not dragged..I would give it a B- overall... Range under construction and practice green decent but very small...
Review
I paid $49 through golf now and a normal round cost $65. Both rates are not worth the course. The layout of the holes are beautiful...... However there is no upkeep. Fairways were hard, tee boxes chewed up, and greens were like putting on the moon.
Bad Greens
This is the typical public course. The greens are terrible, literally 100s of ball marks and many, many un-repaired ones.
The bunkers are in dire need of raking, the course doesn't touch them. First bunker shot, footprints everywhere.
So the clientele is pretty weak.
A few great holes, if you can find them
It's a pretty nice course, but I don't know if they can justify 50/round with so many other great courses in the area. My main complaint is the lack of signs between holes. After 11, you have to turn around before you see a sign pointing to 12. Several of the other holes have the same problem. Whenever there is a fork in the cart path there should be a sign...
The greens were ok, with a few of them under pretty good repair. Pretty challenging course for the beginner.
This course was fun to play
The course was in very good condition but the greens were spotty and there were a lot of divots which were not fixed. Overall I enjoyed playing the course and I will play it again
