Very disappointed

The quality of this course has declined in the past years and this was the worst I have seen it. I expected the fairways to be a little rough and under maintained, many dry and dead grass areas on the fairways. But I was very surprised to see that the greens were in pretty bad shape as well. Almost all greens were torn up, cracked and areas were grass was just dead and brown.

None of the tee boxes had any ball washers, sand, or even trash cans. This explained the trash we would occasionally see flying around on the fairways. Being a very warm day, somewhere in the mid- 90s, I also quickly learned that of the 18 holes, zero had any water coolers. Thinking that maybe the beverage cart may be readily available, I was again disappointed to encounter the beverage cart only once at the 14th hole.

Good layout and great greens gone to waste.

This course only has two things going for it. The greens and the views - they are both awesome. The negatives: tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, location, and the fact that two groups in front of me was a group playing as 6. No marshal, no starter, no drink cart, and the only merchandise in the "pro shop" is a large glass jar of used balls. The $35 fee is reasonable for the condition but I wouldn't go back even if it was free.

Great Course for the $$

$50 was a steal for this course. I played at 9am on a Wednesday and was about the only one on the course. I played all 18 with a lunch break at the turn in 3 hours! This course is difficult! You have to hit it straight and every approach shot in to the par 4's and 5's was an uneven surface. There are lots of hills and terrain to deal with here. Would highly recommend this course if you haven't played it before.

neglected

Used to be a great course. But since they sold off the first 18, they completely neglected what is left. About on par with the condition of a poorly maintained city course but at double the cost. Unless they decide to reinvest, not worth the money anymore.

Lost Canyons

If you want more women players you must provide restrooms on the course! Overall, a women friendly course with a challenging Pete Dye design. What's with the total lack of merchandise in the golf shop? 19th hole is a ghost town on a Saturday? Marshalls on the course were very friendly but did nothing about a drunk twosome holding up everybody on the course which turned a 4 hour round into a 5 hour plus round. Provide caffeine for the staff....

Great course, however a consideration is to be great at course management. A lot of holes do not require your driver, even though the hole is long.

tough layout from the back tees

Lost Canyons is a nicely laid out course with many challangeing holes, a lot of forced carries and beautiful scenery. The landing areas (thank god) are wide and very forgiving with most of the slopes going back toward the center. The fairways can use a little help, there are many bare spots and the greens (large!!!) and inconsistant. Overall the course plays well although the condition need improvement. I was told they will be closing the course in December for a year to do repairs, would like to play it again after they are made.

Sky Course

Teed off @ 1pm on a Golfnow prepaid special, $23 w cart. 95 degrees, fairly windy. I played the Golds (6740/75.6/143), 1st time I have played here in app. 3 years. POP was great, no one in front of me AD, played 18 in 3.5 hours including a break @ the turn. The greens have some brown spots but generally putted well. Medium fast & firm but with a decent amount of unfixed ball marks. They are big, undulating and even a 3 footer in windy conditions can be an adventure. Other than the course design, the greens were the best part of the course. The fairways and rough are both thin, lush in places with bare spots mixed in. I suspected the course would play shorter than the 6740 yards listed for the Golds, & it did. The traps close to the greens were maintained and had decent sand. Some of the fairway traps were not in as good of condition and were firm with weeds growing in them. The customer service from the pro shop to the restaurant to the cart guy were all ++. I would certainly NOT pay close to rack rate for this course, even though it is only 2.5 miles from my house. However, on a deal like today, it is well worth it. It took a couple of good breaks, but I accomplished something on this course that would be a VERY rare occurance for me... I played all 18 holes with the same golf ball. Looking @ the Shadow course made me sad. Hard to believe it was operational less than 6 months ago... The greens I saw were brown and some holes almost looked like they were being deconstructed. Except for the fairway bunker, I could hardly tell #1 on the old Shadow used to be a golf hole.

Getting better all the time

This place got a reeeal bad rap because of what happened on the other course (Shadow). Well it finally closed! So now they only have one course to take care of (And it seems like they are doing so!). I play the Blacks tees, and I can honestly say, that's the worst part of this course... the Black tees! most have no business being back there, so other than it being just a really tough track, it's all good! just play the tees for your handicap/index and you'll enjoy it. play here often and there's NO WAY your game won't get better.

Fair trial

The course is designed for golfers with skills intermediate and up. It is unforgiving at the same time rewarding for those who shall hit the fairway. I had fun playing this challenging course. For those who find fun in difficulty... This is the course to beat!!! I had fun out there!

Pleasnatly surprised

It has been over a year since I last played Lost Canyons and had a miserable time then on the Sky course, mainly from the horrible conditions throughout the course. But now since they have closed the Shadow course, they have pulled all their resources on Sky and their efforts are obviously paying off. The course overall is not only playable but fun again! The greens are incredible, the fairways are lush, for drought condition standards, and the tee boxes are in decent shape. The pace of play for an early Friday afternoon was great too, under 4 hours. The only complaint I have is with the bunkers, Some of the greenside bunkers are inconsistent with sand and hard-pack, but I shouldn't be in them in the first place..haha. The power carts were a bit rickety but the cart attendant said they had just received a shipment of new carts that will be put into service this week. Lost Canyons is coming back, looking great, and the staff there are always friendly. I look forward to playing there again!

Do not play here

This course is in bad conditions. Last time I played here was a year ago and course was fine. Now it looks bad and plays even worse. You can tell that they don't care. The clubhouse is pathetic, you can't even buy a dozen of good golf balls. Sad to see that this course has gone down in value, use to be a premier spot

This course has an excellent layout

I was curious to see what a Pete Dye course played like and was immediately pleased by the first couple of holes. It was challenging but fair, I loved the layout and truly enjoyed it from tee to green. The course condition was not the greatest, some tee boxes need fixing, other parts of the course are dry but they don't take away from the whole experience. The staff was excellent, the food was average and for the price we paid it was well worth the 53 mile drive. I will definitely return to play this course again

Beautiful Location, Nice Course, Not Very Forgiving.

As a New Yorker traveling to LA, this course was a big change from my usual Bethpage park course.

Very beautiful scenery, the Canyons are breathtaking. The course itself is nice with a few very nice holes.

The problem for this golfer, was the level of forgiveness of the course. I don't believe I had a flat lie the whole round and if you are not straight off the tee, be prepared to lose a lot of balls in the surrounding rough. The rattlesnake warning kept me from looking for a few balls, so be careful.

All in all, It's a very nice course, but you must be straight off the tee.
