What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! Awful management!!!
I must say, I was looking forward to play a course that used to host a PGA tour event. What a let down.
The course is poorly maintained. The bunkers are awful, if you can even call them bunkers.
Whoever owns this property should reconsider the management there. Everything seems awkwardly out of place. I have played over a hundred golf courses and this one is by far the worst when it comes to the entire setup, from bag drop, parking lot, locations of ranges in relationship to starting tees and clubhouse, etc. The poor course conditions also relates to me that the general manager is either in over his head, or just doesn't care about the product offer to the customer.
WHAT A SHAME!!
Heron
I think the course has lost a lot of style due to the rough areas were very dry and scruffy, not as nice a shape as it was way back when the PGA event was played there. Too many bunkers, and unfortunately many players are skipping the Raking of the bunkers,,,but it is a fair test for sure, and the greens are running good. Just hoped it would have been more pristine,,,
Disappointing
Although we had a great round personally. The coarse has gone down hill from last year.
The round was delayed with no ranger watching the guys in front of us really slowed us
down. I will return if I find a good rate on golfnow but will not book direct and pay the coarse
prices. Perhaps someone needs to take a close look and fix these issues. The sand traps need work,
sadly over grown around edges.
Good Value - Superb Service except if you wre thirsty
Cart guys, starter and pro shop provide outstanding service. No beverage cart all day. Such a loss of revenue. Will never understand that for any course. Greens and fairways in good condition, greens were quick and smooth. If you go off the fairway or green, some very bare, gnarly weeded conditions. So I guess the motto of keeping it in the fairway really applies here! Bunkers in good shape.
Slow players
Extremely slow players. They must have rangers on the course pushing all slow players.
Getting better
It was my second time playing at Heron Bay.
I learned the course re-did greens 1-2 years ago and the greens were consistent and moderately fast.
Also, I noted fairways were better groomed this year.
I am impressed the positive changes since 2017!
Turtle nest Bay
A course littered with oversized bunkers and its features offer a unique challenge.
Updates Fairways
Clublink has spent the past 1.5 yrs re-doing all of the fairways and they came out great. There is really nice grass that allows the golf ball to sit up vs other courses where your playing off of Mud.
Greens are fast and Bunkers are plush around the greens.
Miss having a Cart Girl
Changes at Heron Bay
Some drastic hanged happened at Heron Bay gcc. Though not too bad. The worst thing was having a slow pace foursome followed by a two some, then us (a threesome) then a single rider. Pace was very slow. However the sand traps kept my game dry, though sandy!
Gone to weeds
Used to be a decent track kept in good shape. Back nine, now front nine is a cow pasture. Play somewhere else
Welcome Back
Swore off Heron Bay a couple years ago because it was in such bad condition. Saw recent reviews on this site and figured I would give it another chance and I am really happy I did! Had 2 foursomes booked there today and the course was so much improved. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all nice. If you were in the rough or in spot where you shouldn't be, you got some very thin, sandy, poor conditions but I am OK with that. Loved that there is actually a contrast in color of rough and fairways. Fairways very lush green outlined by browner rough so you can get a good image of where you need to hit the ball. Not like it was when they had the Honda here, but it has come a long way back to be very playable again, and a very good value. Much better than all the other courses in its price range.
Tired looking course
Played and loved it last year, Don’t think I will bother to come back.
Tons of traps, most without takes irvwith a stub of a handle on the rake.
Divot sand container hanging down loose on our cart, cart was balky- can certainly get a more enjoyable experience elsewhere!
I wasn't going to write this review...
It's a former TPC, for one. We got very unlucky on the pace, as this day was extremely booked and we ended up playing behind a foursome that wasn't playing at pace and wouldn't let us through. The course rolled well and played well, but for a place that has so many bunkers, the sand shouldn't be hardpan in all of them. There didn't seem to be marshals on the course for a day that was so packed, and it was annoying that the pro shop wasn't right up front about having to buy balls extra, letting alone not stocking them on the range. I don't hate this course, but life's too short and South Florida is too loaded to have to settle for tracks like these...
Great place great round
Had read other critical reviews and almost passed this place up. So glad I took a chance as this was a great place to play. Tee boxes apparently are new but other than that course was in good shape especially considering heavy rain night before. Had to lift and clean a few times but was to be expected. Loved the challenge of avoiding sand wish the water came into play more . Will definitely go back ad bring others
Turning Around
As many folks know, Heron Bay has been on the decline. We wanted to give it a shot. While it’s nowhere near it’s glory day, It was in pretty good shape. The fairways were lush. The greens rolled nicely. It still doesn’t drain well, but it wasn’t wet so that was a plus. The traps needed some love, they aren’t edged well. But overall, it was very enjoyable, and I would go back as I enjoy the course. Stay out of the traps and it’s a pretty easy track, but beware of the wind!
If You been Stay Away From the Course Time to Come Back
I have not played the course since it closed in 2016 to redo the greens because of neglect by the ownership of the course. Came out because a friend said they are now caring for the course and I found that to be true. Greens were of a good speed level and well cared for, fairways trimmed well, and the sand traps were freshly raked. The rough is a fair height making the shot a little more challenging but you won't loose your ball just because you missed the fairway. I hope they continue the maintenance because I like the challenges of the course.
