Great course poor staff
Absolutely fabulous course. Extremely challenging as set on a mountain but very well laid out. Only down fall off the whole thing was when we arrived we were refused a golf cart only for the people following us into the club house were granted a cart . The staff member proceeded to then say they had it booked which the other golfer then told me in the car park was a lie. It was blatant age discrimination as me and my fellow golfer are in out mid 20s. Other than that it's a fabulous course.
Worst course I’ve ever played
First of all 2 out of 18 holes were closed without prior notice.
Slow club members didn’t let anyone play through sometimes waiting ten minutes on the tee box.
Lastly course Lay-out is atrocious due to not being able to see any greens from most of the tee boxes and inaccurate score card.
+ no club shop with drinks snacks etc
Very good course
A very good and hard course there is no easy shot you have to try and pick a target .
Could be a hidden gem with some work
Overall it was a great day out. The course is tricky enough and the setting it class. Beautiful hills and scenery.
If I was to comment on some items of improvement I would say the greens need some work.
The clubhouse set up could be more maintained and welcoming, with some small improvements this could be a much better experience and result in repeat play and higher membership.
All in all a fabulous day out and the course makes you try interesting shots.
Lovely course. Great value. Stunning location
Lovely course. Very nice staff. Greens not perfect but wonderful fairways. Very good value. Beautiful scenery
Great course with nice mountain feel
Lovely course. Challenging holes with punishing rough and lots of great views of surrounding mountains. The course plays long and has plenty of dog legs to make things interesting. We got a map of the holes which helped as some of them are pretty blind for your first time round the course. Staff were helpful. No meals being served but thats mostly to do with Covid I'd say. Others have mentioned the greens being a bit rough which is true, some of the them play perfect though.
Worst Greens in Ireland
Played this course for the first time on a Saturday, car park was deserted which was a bad sign. Course is in terrible condition, fairways have not been cut in a long time, tee boxes were poor also, bunkers looked like they hadn't been raked since Winter. But the greens took the biscuit, the worst I have ever putted on. They were hairy, bumpy, slow. There is no way these greens were built to USGA standards. Gentleman in the bar informed us that the practice green was closed, tactical on his part, as if we had hit a few practice putts on it beforehand, we would have hopped straight back into the car. Layout is a mess, don't know where you're hitting the ball most of the time, so many blind shots. Would not recommend, bad value for money, I would pay the extra bit to play a different course in the area next time.
Lots of blindspots and slopes!
I really enjoyed my round here. The lady at reception was kind and helpful (as were the club members I encountered on the course), and the course (rightly, in my view) starts off with three fairly manageable holes.
Thereafter, the Par 3s are on the easy side but, first time out anyway, I found the blind holes (of which there are quite a few) a little frustrating. It's hard to commit when you're not too sure where you're aiming. Maybe more signage would help?
I also found the next tee box hard to find on one or two occasions. Again, more signage would help, I feel. (This was when the members on the course were very helpful.)
Lastly, and perhaps inevitably given the course's mountainous location, the slopes were pretty severe at times. This is not a criticism. But it certainly was challenging for a relatively high handicapper like myself. (Good for me, I hear you low handicappers say!)
Overall, I'd say give Roundwood a visit. I'll be back.
Greens need work
Stunning location, but the greens are playing incredibly slowly despite warm, dry weather. It badly needs some TLC. I would say that it’s overpriced for its current condition.
Nonetheless, it’s an interesting course with some fun holes and lovely views. If you’re walking you’ll get a good hike in as it’s a very hilly course. The 18th is a bit of a slog, so keep a little Lucozade handy for a strong finish, particularly if you’re playing from the back tees.
In poor condition
Could be a decent course, but unfortunately it's in very poor condition. Easily the slowest greens I have played on, and a lot of bumps.
Also most tee shots are blind, playing over stakes, and with no maps on course it makes it very difficult for a first timer there.
Views are lovely, staff seemed nice.
