Another great time @ the "Mack"
Just a great time overall, this course is close to home so it is also a favorite. Weather was great, no rush in play as there was not a lot playing at that time of day (3:00). Starters are always a hoot and a pleasure to interact with. I am looking forward to playing again SOON!
Played at 3:15 on 4/22/15
Played as a single. Passed a six some on the fifth hole and played in two hours twenty minutes. Course was solid and staff friendly. Conditions were windy, but I had three birdies because of easy pin positions. Good value golf course first played it in 1964.
i enjoy the arcade side
easy to show up and play a quick nine for cheap money. the place is always packed so this course is easy to walk up and start playing. finish is usually hour 30. challenging.
This course is wide open and beautifully kept
What a beautiful course. It's my favorite now and I've played many. Staff is helpful and friendly. Grass is green. Greens are excellent
Greens were great!
The greens were rolled that morning after being punched within past couple weeks! Fabulous shape. There is some new sand which makes the traps real traps. Great pace of play 3.5 hours. What a great day on the course.
Overpriced and under maintained
This course should be a jewel in Sacramento; but it has been abused. The course managers are more interested in Footgolf (soccer balls used by patrons) than they are in Golfers. They allow footgolfers to even bring dogs are the course. The pace of play is slow, the fairways a mess, and sand is completely absent from the traps. To consider they want $46 for eighteen holes on this pasture is shocking. They have lost our foursome of ten years to other courses. Stay away unless you are desperate.
its haggin oaks
the arcade side is nice for a quick nine walking. haggin keeps the greens well. you can find cheap deals for times around noon. i ususally play around work and school. if you have 2 hours this is a nice course to play.
A rare public course by Dr. Alister MacKenzie headlines the city's collection of munis
If you're a fan of courses by Dr. Alister MacKenzie - who isn't? - then a visit to Haggin Oaks is on your must-do list. The golf course doesn't have a ton of MacKenzie feel to it, but it's still a solid play with an interesting mix of five par 3s and five par 5s, including back-to-back at No. 17 and 18. When Morton Golf took over maintenance from the city in 2012, they put more resources into taking better care of such a historic treasure. Two par 5s - No. 4 around a pond and No. 11 around a grove of trees near the green - are excellent. The two holes affected by a small creek - the par-4 fifth and par-3 14th - are pretty good, too. Be sure to spend some time hanging out at the MacKenzie Bar and Grille, home to a nice collection of articles and photos and memorabilia from the past. Of course, you won't find a niblick in the popular superstore onsite, but I don't think MacKenzie will mind.
Losing Its Edge
The greens were aerated and awful. Standing water I'm many bunkers. Downed dead tree limbs on several holes. Standing water on many fairways. This place lacks attention to detail on the course. Definitely not a recommend from our group.
Aeration Problems...
I just wrote a bad review regarding the lack of information about aeration. Just after I posted it, I learned about the aeration alert icon on the tee times available page. Now I know what else to look for when I make reservations....my apologies. If you have any control over it, please don't post the review.
greens were extremely fast
Fast greens and that is all and that is all I have to say
Course in great shape
The starter was very friendly and knowledgeable. The pace of play was perfect, and the greens were consistent. Over all-a very good a good afternoon had by all.
Rained out at Haggin oaks
We were rained out and I'm out $130. I will never book online with pre-pay again.

Sacramento
$$$$Best in Sacramento??$$$$
The course was okay... I like the layout but way too many leaves made it hard to find the ball... I understand it's an old course but for $60 you can play way nicer in Sacramento. Pro shop has everything. Driving range has automatic self tee w/ 4 target greens. In a few stalls the balls get jammed up but still pretty cool. Good place to work on your game... For the price I would play Arcade....
Haggin Oaks
Fantastic place to play. Preiodically great pricing is available on line. You need to continually check to get a good price but worth the time and effort. I play all over and around the Sacramento area and this is one of my favorite places to play.
good conditions
Played Mackenzie course on Sunday Nov. 23. Our foursome teed off at 7:36am and finished at 11:50am. The course was in better-than-expected condition given the time of year. The greens rolled true with decent speed but were VERY soft (it did rain the day before). About the only thing I could comment on that was below-average were some of the tee-boxes (for the Tips) were in no-so-great condition.
Issues with Golfnow fees and Tee Time
When checking in around Noon, it took over 10 minutes to resolve a pricing issue with the Golfnow price. When I got to the fist tee, there was a group leaving the tee box and 3 more groups on the tee. There was confusion about the "batting order". We eventually teed off almost 30 minutes late. The course condition was below average, and it took over 5 hours to play. I do not plan to return.
Great Day
Great Day. Greens in great shape, rolling out true. Surprisingly, pace of play was good. Did not wait at all and felt no pressure from the group behind. Food was very good and beverage cart seemed availible 3-4 holes. Overall, good experience!
Great Fall Day, but pace was a little slow
Course in good shape. Some greens were in need of a good rolling. Pace was a bit slow, but apparently there was a glitch with GolfNow and the computer system - the clock change caused some double bookings. But all round, beautiful day, good beer, and good buddies. Haggin is consistently good value, both on the course, and in the Superstore.
