Fun course, risk/ reward style. Super friendly staff.
Course is well maintained, different form most Texas courses. Lots of brush on the course that will eat your ball. Staff is super friendly, the rangers twice helped us located our tee shots. Pace of play was great but our tee time was 4pm on Tuesday.
Greens are disappointing
Most of the course was great. Tee boxes were level with good grass, fairways are excellent, but the poor greens. The greens are soft and when you hit a shot typically it left a huge divot. The problem out there is apparently nobody fixes their divots and the greens were covered with bad divot marks, big divots, and on a few of the greens really bad weeds on them. I played there about 4 months ago and the green were immaculate. I was excited to play this course again for the good price I got on golfnow, but was really dissappointed with the greens, they have really let them go.
this course has great features
but green is not good. there are a lot of devots...
There is a reason this is one of the best courses in Texas!!
Top 10 Texas public course that will not disappoint. Looking forward to transition from bent to Champions Tiff greens next year.
Very Nice... but...
the course was beautiful! front and back nines completely different. i like the back better as it was a bit more challenging. very green and manicured like a private course. greens do not break a whole lot but i was putting through water most holes. .the only negative thing i would have to say is 1) the greens had alot of ball-marks and turning but that's bent and will be replaced soon i hear 2) do not go on a Monday.. i understand that most courses use Monday as a maintenance day but geez. it was every hole someone was moving around on almost every one of my shots. the staff was so friendly and it was such a nice course that i assumed that the maintenance crew would be a little more aware. it also didn't help that the green watering guy stayed one hole ahead of me the entire round. he was standing on the green watering on every one of my approach shots..?? so greens were slower than they should have been, but my tee time wasn't until 11? seems late to be watering when its 100 outside??
One of the top five courses public can play in DFW area - challenging and in excellent condition.
We received an excellent deal (nearly 1/2 off normal green fees!) on one of the top five courses public can play in DFW area. Except for one green, the course/greens was in excellent condition. Teed off at 1pm and breezed around course as a two-some. A real test from any tee you play. Would recommend Texas Star to anyone looking for a premier course in DFW area.
This course has both challenging holes and forgiving ones. It is a good balance.
There were a few pot marks on the green from a previous tournament, but we were told about it before we started play. Greens were otherwise in great shape. Very good course conditioning.
Some greens needed some work
Due to some some local rain earlier in the week cart path only was ineffect causing slow play. Our group waited fifteen minute to tee off . Groups ahead of us were not playing ready golf and not playing from proper tee box. We skipped holes 10,11,12 13 then came back to finish the rest, we notice alot of groups of six playing causing great delays
A great "must play" course!
Texas Star is one of the top, well-maintained, courses in all of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The fairways and most of the greens were pristine. The course could be improved if the players would make an attempt to repair their balls marks on the greens. The 8th green has a healthy amount of poa annua grass invading the Bermuda grass but other than that one green the others rolled very smooth. I love the course.
Wow
Just wished it would not have been cart path only. It rained the day before and at times it was a London walk to the ball from the cart path.
Good conditions, excellent value, rain-shortened round
It's August, yet the course was in good condition. The greens were bumpy due to the number of ballmarks that were not repaired. (Really, people, repair your marks). The 8th green was infected by another strain of grass. But other than that, it was very enjoyable. We only made it to #12, when a line of t-storms for the first time in a month, decided to interrupt our play. By the time it ended 1.5 hours later, the course was a slosh and we drove home. It would have been nice to receive a little discount for the next round, after all, rain in August? but c'est la vie.
One of my favorite places to play
The course is always in good shape and is the right balance between challenging and fun as long as you keep your drive out of the woods and environmentally sensitive areas.
A very challenging course.
Great course. However, the greens needs work. Fairways were in immaculate shape! Can't wait to play again.
Great course
This is my 5th time to play here over the years, and the course was just as expected. Free range balls, super friendly staff, perfect fairways, and well maincured greens. I totally recommend to play here!
The course was in great shape.
The pace REALLY slowed down at the turn which was roughly 11:30 on a Sunday. With the exception of that, it was a great round of golf!
Good layout and in good condition
Practice green was closed so had to dodge chippers to practice putt but course was nice. Starter, marshalls were all helpful. Beverage cart girl Kathy was very sweet and stayed out despite rain. Good value experience.
The fairways are in great shape.
Except for some of the greens this course is fantastic. I would certainly recommend it to all golfers especially tourists looking for a great golf experience and beauty . All the trees around the course made it extraordinary for me. Some of the greens had ball marks that players did not repair which affected the roll of the ball.
Top DFW Muni
Texas Star is impressive.
Friendly and attentive staff.
The practice facilities are spacious and well kept.
Every hole offers different obstacles and opportunities.
Elevation changes, well placed bunkers and superb course layout will challenge your game.
The golfnow.com deal made this a great buy!
Hadn't played this course in years
Texas Star was in good shape. Tee Boxes and fairways were very nice. Greens are bent and in good shape but very slow due to keeping them longer in the Texas heat. The greens marked very easily because they were so wet to try and keep the bent alive. Many people did not fix ball marks which just makes the problem worse. The layout of the course was good. I played the GOLD tee box. The course did not play as long as stated on the card even though the fairways did not roll out very much. Par 3's from the GOLD tee box were the most challenging. There were a mix of short par 4's and some longer par 4's. Only 3 par 5's two of which you can get on in two.
I enjoyed the course. It's in better shape than most of the many courses I have played this summer. They seem to put a lot of effort into the conditioning of the course.....the greens are just slow.
Good Luck with Texas Star
Great course in amazing condition
The staff and course conditions made for an amazing golf outing. I can't wait to play here again.
