About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

Pine Crest Improved!
Greens were extremely fast and in good shape. The fairway grass was too thin. All other conditions above average.
So much potential
This would be a really good course if they would put money into the facilities. Clubhouse needs a coat of paint and a good scrubbing. Course is mostly hard pan with grass/weeds as an option. Greens were average. Fivesomes made the round 5 to 6 hrs. We were a 2 some and had to jump a a few holes to get out in front of slow play. Second time in last 2 weeks that we were not able to have a complete round. Marshal is doing his best to speed up play but it's just not happening. Avoid teeing off on Tuesday after the noon hour due to a skins game that will take it to dark-thirty to finish (5-soles). At least the restaurant is open again and has good burgers/draft beer. Use to play this course often but will not be a return customer.

Get a pillow and blanket
Marshals did not speed up the pace of play but they did come around to slow it down by giving a phone call to someone that was a part of a group of 5 and then we had to wait for him to get off the phone to tee. I literally dosed off waiting on this group several times. And there was no point going in front of them because there was another group of 4 playing just as slow. The greens weren't too bad but the rest of the course needs some attention. And honestly, the club house building is just plane weird and severely outdated.
We left after 9 holes. We just couldn't take it anymore.
We apologize for your poor experience. Please contact us at pinecrestccteetimes@outlook.com. We'd like to discuss with you in more detail your experience with us and ensure that you have a much more enjoyable round when you visit us again.
needs some work
The fairways were very thin & there were places that you basically had to hit from the dirt.
The sand traps were in bad shape
The greens were in good shape
Thank you for the review. We appreciate your critiques and we will work to improve them! We hope you had a good time and you'll come back to see us again!
It's golf...
I've played this course several times in the past due to it's close proximity. I was a bit skeptical about playing on this day since there had been continuous rain the few days before. In a nutshell, it rained the majority of the time during my round and the course couldn't drain fast enough.
This is still a good course for the price if you're looking to work on your game. I will be back.
The rain has really come down hard to start the month out! We're glad you were able to still have an enjoyable experience despite the rain and we look forward to your return!
Nice selection of holes to play.
Some par 4's you will need a 3 wood, due to water over the hill,, not seen off of the tee box.
Great player tips! It's incredibly useful to have course knowledge on some of our par 4's. Thank you!
Fairways and course conditions
Although I generally like this course it is not in good condition. The fairways are dotted with clumps of weeds, sand, dirt, etc. and in many places very hard. Also, we played on a crowded Sunday and were a threesome following a twosome and another threesome. The threesome was very slow and, despite the fact that the marshal asked them to speed up, they did not do so. The result was that we had to wait on almost every hole.
We're sorry for your poor experience and that you had to play behind a slower group. We appreciate your feedback and will be looking to improve. Please come back to see us again! We hope your review is much more positive next time around!
Friday golf
Bought tee time from hot deal, bc there is no one book at the time. Either they loose money or sell it at discount rate. But they should treat all customer the same. Terrible customer service!!!!

Saturday Morning Round at Pine Crest
This course is one of the most convenient ones to get to within the Beltway, and it is worth the money.
My foursome arrive at 9:30 for a 10:00 tee-time, and we were told we could start whenever we wanted. We got a large bucket of balls ($9) for the driving range, which was a little tight, but we were all able to find our own station.
Before we even teed off, 2 carts pulled up behind us, so we knew it would be a long day.
The course was green and in good shape. No dead grass or dirt fairways to report. There is a lot of water on the course that can sneak up on you if you don't look at the course layout.
My biggest complaint was with the bunkers. A majority of them were hard with not much sand to speak of. It made bunker shots incredibly difficult and unpredictable.
It took us a little over 4.5 hours to finish 18, which - even on Saturday - is too long. An active Marshall would help this course considerably.
My group and I enjoyed this course and do plan on going back. We paid about $42 a person, which is a bit much, but still a good value for the course's location.
Thank you for the review! We're glad you enjoyed the course and look forward to seeing you back again! We appreciate your criticisms and will look to improve upon them. Thank you!
Good 1st visit
Course was in good condition from tee to green. Pace of play was somewhat slow as there were two groups of 5 ahead of my 2some. Overall good experience and plan on coming back.
We're glad you enjoyed your round with us Edward! We look forward to your return visit!
Mixed Impression
This was the first time I played this course. Normal fees were $54 per 18. Definitely not worth the full fee. I booked under the "Hot Deal" value from GolfNow. First the greens and tee box were is superb condition. But from there the course quality goes down hill. The fairways were average at best. Lots of bare spots. The bunkers were unplayable. The facilities are mediocre
Thank you for the review and the feedback you provided! We hope to see you back again and that your experience will be more positive than mixed!
Very Playable - Can Be Good Value
I last played Pine Crest about 15 years ago, so this was virtually like playing it for the first time. As with all golf courses, there's a tendency to learn the hard way, when you are not familiar with the layout. But overall, it's not on the difficult side in comparison to others. The course itself was in pretty decent shape. The greens can be big, but not overly undulating. I played the afternoon during the week and the pace was fine. I'm not big on playing golf on the weekends because of painfully slow play, coupled with higher prices. The value here is good, if the price is low to moderate.
Great value
The course was in good condition, greens were consistent. For the price it was great.
Nice greens and fairways. Bunkers need a few more inches of sand.
The course was surprisingly nice for the price. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were not beat up, but could have used some water. The ground everywhere was so hard we couldn't get a tee into the ground without a lot of effort. The sand traps were disappointing because there was so little sand that you have to hit the ball first. Every bunker shot went over the green. Never got used to that over the 18 holes. With a bit more TLC, this course could be really nice.
Good Value
a friend and I played the course this past Saturday and enjoyed the round for the money, but I will give you the pros and cons and you can decide.
Pros:
Affordable Saturday golf
Course condition was great. Greens were great ( I assume because of all the rain)
Golf now discount $39
Cons:
No cart girl
Pace of play (5 hour round) I know Saturday's are slow but the starter was allowing twosomes to go off because "they wanted to play by themselves" well everyone wants to play by themselves but on Saturday you really need to have 4 at a time. There were at least 6 sets of twosomes that went off.
Marshal picking up tees at the tee during your backswing was a little annoying. He could pick them up toward the end of the day or something but not stand at the box with you.
I will give this place another shot on a weekday and was still a better value than others for weekend golf.
Pleasantly Surprised
I played this course in the Summer of 2014 and swore I would never play it again because of the shape it was in. However, I found a great rate on GolfNow at the time and distance that I was looking for, so I decided to give the course another chance.
I played as a single while my 6 yr old son rode with me. The course was not too crowded so I was able to tee off without being paired up with anyone. I had to wait on a couple of holes, but nothing more than normal. I was really impressed with the greens. They were in great condition and rolled very true. I'm assuming the recent rains in Houston are what have helped this course.
Good
No waiting to tee up. Staff was friendly. Greens were in great shape. The bunkers needed more sand. No drink cart girl on the course. Overall good course.
All considered okay
I played Fathers Day with a friend. We had a cart and it was 90 degrees, but the course was still pretty flooded from all the rain. The course looked gross with algae all in the water. Tons of Mosquitos. For 40$ I wouldn't play again, for 25$ I might, but not 40.
Tee boxes needed work. Greens actually may have been the only saving grace, and even they didn't run that true at times. They were very inconsistent but for an amateur it was frustrating to watch similarly sloped greens break different amounts with the same slope angle and the same speed.
Considering the options for public golf inside the loop, probably not returning soon.
Great value
I find this course to be one of the better values in the Houston area. It only cost me less than $35 with cart to play early on a Friday. The course is near to town and close to the Galleria area so you don't have to drive 45 minutes to the suburbs. The course conditions were surprisingly good given the price point. Our group found the greens to be interesting with subtle slopes and a few ridges. Overall, I'd play here again as long as the price was less than $35.
