Decent place for golf
Greens were challenging, fairways need some maintenance, riding was bumpy. Food was very reasonable and good. Overall had a fun morning.
First time at Langston
First round at Langston went pretty well. We tee'd off right at 7 AM. Cart Paths are basically rollercoaster rides, you can lose balls in the fairway because of tall grass, but OVERALL this is a pretty great value course. A few super challenging holes along the way as well.
Good layout
Fun course. They do the best they can for whet they have to work with
Good, inexpensive option with potential
Good and inexpensive round of golf. The conditions overall all range from rough to excellent from hole to hole but the greens are in excellent shape for a public course. Given a bit more resources and attention to the things like cart paths and some TLC to the front nine fairways this could course could go from good to great. Had an amazing burger at the grill inside and the staff were all smiles and friendly.
Not Bad for a close cheap option
Not a bad course for a course that is close to downtown. I’ve played it dozens of times over the years and for a quick round, it is a good option. It can get a little backed up on the weekends around the 8th hole. They put a grill out there on the weekends which slows it down. Last time we can up and there were three groups waiting. Other than that, the pace wasn’t horrible but if it isn’t crowded, you can get around in under 3 hrs.
My biggest gripe is the tee boxes. Fairways and greens aren’t bad for a cheap muni but the tee boxes are basically dirt. You can’t get an even lie and the ground is so hard you can barely get a tee in. They desperatly need to be redone. You are supposed to have a clean lie on the tee but here it’s basicly a uneven dirt patch on some holes. If they fixed the tee boxes and stopped with the grill bottleneck on the 8th tee, I’d be back more.
Overall, good for an early morning or late afternoon quick round close to downtown. If you are going to play a weekend morning, drive a litttle further away.
Good for what it is
The best of the DC municipal courses. Layout is not as crowded as east potomac and course stays in decent shape if its been watered properly. Better for a quick nine during the week than a full 18 on the weekend-for that you'd be better off paying a little extra and driving a little further out.
Great course for the money
Great golf course located in NE DC. Its a National Park golf course managed by Golf Course Specialities. The front nine is fairly wide open and the back nice is quite harder and more picturesque. The course is in average to good condition. Play from the back tees for a harder challenge. Great value in DC and highly recommended. Great practice facility to include putting green, multiple greens for chipping and a large driving range.
The food is good and excellent value. The staff at the course are quite helpful and nice.
Langston was established in 1938 and is a good course. Great for beginners and not too many places to loose balls. The course is easy to walk but if you choose to ride, there are not many golf cart paths so be prepared for rough ride.
Have fun!!
