easy to go near course
Course was good condition that fair way and green, so good for easy play to me.
Nice Park District Course
Got a nice deal on GolfNow and went up to Sunset Valley to play a fast 18 holes. Course was in good shape, greens in excellent shape and quick. Sand traps could use a bit more sand.
For a round in early November was a good deal. Would go back again in the spring/summer.
Bountiful trees that don't interfere with golf
The greens and the course, in general, was in good shape. Challenging without being crazy hard.
Average
Very typical "parkland " style course. Not a lot of trouble or forced carries. Fairways are fairly wide without a ton of trees.
Great Course
The course was in great shape. Fairways were cut short, the greens were soft so you could attack the pins. The only slight negative was the greens were running pretty slow but they rolled smooth.
Overpriced....But Got Great Deal!!!!
2nd time playing at Sunset Valley GC this season. Haven't had a reason to play here because the rate has been high all season. I don't understand why the rates are so high in mid 50's for an average golf course - cart needs GPS.
Beside rate and GPS; the course played very well. The fairway were well maintained; the greens were soft, receptive and ball rolled. Personally this is the best Sunset Valley has played in a long time. I really enjoyed it today.
I had a 1:18 PM tee time but arrived about :45 min early so I was paired up with two lovely ladies and tee-ed off at 1:03 PM. Got a great deal via Hot Deal $18 + service charge (which I hate). I definitely recommend Sunset Valley but make sure you don't pay too much for it.
I think with cart Sunset Valley should range in the mid 30's but it's over 50. If you can get a great rate during the week or weekend; get it and get out there and take advantage of the great course conditions.
Decent course but routing is frustrating
It's an older style up-and-back course but I think they re-routed some holes because the cart paths don't match the holes. As a result - they need more signs as to where the next hole is.
a hidden gem
Until 2 weeks ago I had not played sunset in 40 years, when we referred to it as "the bumps". Huge change since the and much more fun to play than the other park district course.
Nice Experience
Back nine water and hazards come unexpectedly after rather benign front. Stay alert and keep it straight.
Nice tight course
Shorter course poses challenges with trees. Nice course to decide between straight driver or just a good 3 wood.
Not worth the price of admission
Course is flooded everywhere, greens are in terrible condition, and staff is terrible. For the $ there are 100 other courses in the area that are much better.
decent but not worth full price
the greens were rolling well, not fast but true enough to enjoy, overall this is a decent track but I paid the GolfNow price, full price seems too high for what you get. Annoying that they wouldn't offer the GolfNow price so I literally bought it via my phone while standing in the pro-shop.
Value course- a must play
Great course for the money. Well maintained fairways solid greens and friendly staff. Try to catch a deal on golf now. I played 18 with cart for $18.
Love this course.
Turned out to be a nice fall day. Played 18 in under 3 hours and the course is still in good shape and the previously aerated greens are rolling nicely but still a little hard.
I always have a good time here. Sunset Valley is a very nice course, a solid 4 stars,. The only drawback is no driving range and not much of a putting green practice area. The clubhouse and dining are modest but there is a nice patio to have a drink with your friends in the summer.. If you want to warm up just go up the road to the Highland Park driving range.
excellent
This course is not long one but not too short either. Every hall was challenging and all greens were not so easy but challenged. I enjoyed that course very much
Not worth going out of your way for - but good.
This course is in pretty good condition. The layout is pretty average for the area. Pretty flat - an easy walk if you're so inclined. I just had to pay for the cart fee, so that made it worth the trip.
Most Overated Course on North Shore
I recently returned to Sunset Valley Golf Course after a 2 year boycott over their not honoring the value of a Groupon after a rain out. The course was fine, reasonable shape, although it has always struck me as a rather pedestrian course with limited charm and challenges. I get the appeal of a inexpensive, straightforward golf course with only moderate challenges for the average golfer however this course is not inexpensive and considering the mediocre level of play, indifferent staff, punitive booking policies, horrific food and beverage service i would say it is the worst value on the North Shore. I paid for 18 holes but after a 2 and a half hour front nine i realized i would not finish. i asked for a nine hole credit but was only offered a 60% percent credit for a future nine. They pack the course and had league play starting at 4 and then were completely unaccommodating toward a resident and paying customer. Save your money and play a different course worthy of your time and dollars with a staff that appreciates your business. There are many in the area but this is not one of them.
Hooky Hideout
Had a great time with my retired buddy. Course and staff were friendly!
Hot Deal @ Sunset Valley GC
First time playing @ Sunset Valley this year. Finally found a hot deal on Golfnow.com for $18 w/ cart. Can't beat it. At least in the northshore area of Chicago. Weather was perfect. Clear skies with a little bit of wind. Greens are soft with nice rolls. Pin placement was fair to moderate in difficulty. Pace of play was slow first 9 due to a 4-some that weren't your regular, average golfer. Thank goodness they only played the 9 holes. Back now was a breeze. Fairways are well maintained; the rough was easy to get out of. If and when I find another great deal, I will come back. Staff greeted me as soon as I walked in. I was to be paired with a 3-some but since I was a little early, I was allowed to go as a single. That was nice. Hope to come back soon.
i agree...i played yesterday in the humid heat for $16 hot deal. fairways were in great condition; balls landed softly on the greens. and did run slow due to humidity; as always - staffs are friendly. only complaint...pace was very slow.
