Nice course under repair.
Course was nice, but there was a lot of construction going on around some of the holes. Staff was really friendly and nice. Greens were pretty fast and rough was not overly long. This will be a really nice course when all of the construction is finished. Look forward to playing this course again.
Lots of potential
The course has lots of potential but outside of the greens and rough the course was in rough condition. The fairways and tee boxes were rough, I played winter rules. I think there may have been flooding issues in the winter, not sure as I was visiting the area. Still if they can get that under control I'd be willing to pay the full rate.
Hi there - thanks for the review and the feedback! We have done a ton of maintenance to the course and it is in great condition. We have a very harsh winter and battled a ton of flooding. Come back and see all the upgrades!
Flooded
Flooded course a week earlier. Gravel in the fairway. Hard to charge 30 dollars for no fairways and rough greens.
Hello! Unfortunately we do not have control over mother nature and had a pretty bad winter followed by flooding. We are working as quickly as possible to get the course in the best shape. The rate is $30 in the pro shop to show our golfers that booking online will save you time and money! We would like to offer a promo code so you can come back! Please email me directly at sierrateetimes@gmail.com!
Flood damage
Due to recent flood damage this course is in very poor shape. The staff has done an amazing job getting the course in playing shape. The greens are in great shape. However the fairways and bunkers are so poor most shots had to be moved. I'm sure this will come with time as the damage occurred only a few weeks ago. But just beware. I would not pay full price here for a little while. The staff is great!!
Hi there and thank you for the feedback! The course is still dormant from the harsh winter and the recent flooding. We are currently offering discounted rates on our website until the course is in tip top shape! We're so glad you had a good experience with the staff and hope to see you soon!
Very challenging and you use a lot of clubs.
I have played this course many times and the staff is always great to work with. Great course for the value. They are working on the condition to make it very nice this after all the rain this year.
Thank you for the feedback! We certainly are working on the course conditions and hope to have everything in great shape after the rain passes!
This course has a natural appearance
Old Capital is a gem of a golf course , it has a very natural appearance as it blends in to the surrounding rolling hills and valleys of the area. The course is very challenging at all skill levels and offers beautiful views and lots of hazards along the way. The key to old capital Is to keep the ball in the fairway. The course has some upgrades added within the last 10 years that add alot of character and challenges such as the risk reward par 5 eighth hole and the three tier waterfall at the 9th. The 18th has a magnificent view of the course from above and a green front waterfall. Overall I would give this course a high recommendation for golfers of all abilities.
Wow! We're so glad you have great overall experience and enjoyed all the scenic parts of the course. Good tips! Hope to see you soon!
can be a challenge but easy to score if hitting straight
Love the course for the elevation changes. Easy to get to.
24 OCt
They are letting the grass grow in the fairways and makes for some interesting lies, also the rough is really getting up there. The greens had been punched in the last couple of weeks and you couldnt make a 3 foot putt for the holes. Nothing said about that when we headed out to the first tee
fun course
nice course to play and enjoy. The layout is good and challenging. Beautiful creek runs through most of the course.
Corydon on 19Aug
Course has bounced back and is good shape as usual, bring your A game cause you will need it, greens are fast again
Small back 9
Back 9 is squished in. Two par 5's and a par 4 going out and then two short par 3's with some par 4s on the way back in. Very similar to front 9
Challenging but fun
We play this course at least once a year. We always enjoy it but consider it one of the tougher courses we play -- and we play a lot of different courses. Fairways were good but still recovering a bit from tough winter -- but better than a lot. Greens were in great shape; and fast, usually some of the fastest we play all year.
Overall, a fun course.
Old Capital is a hidden gem
I started playing this course about 5 years ago. Then I had my knee replaced and took three years off.
This is my third time this year to play here and the course is as good as it gets considering the harsh winter we had. It is not what I call an easy course by no means. Bunkers and water from start to finish.... so you have to learn when you can hit away and when to lay up.
The staff is always friendly and do keep the course maintained......... it looked like they may be adding a few more sand traps so it will continue to be challenging as they keep developing the course.
It you haven't been here do try and arrange a tee time and you will be glad you did! If it has been awhile then put it on your list to play soon.
I played my best game this year which is a plus for me so I'm going to try and get a few more rounds in here before winter sets in.
Hit them straight! Don T
Better Improve that slice before you play this course!!
As always, Old Capital was in good shape. After a brutal Winter most courses are still trying to recover, but Old Capital was in better shape than most. Fast, true Greens are the norm at Old Capital and yesterday was no exception. a lot of water makes this course a challenge but good shots are rewarded. Come on out to Historic Corydon for a great round of golf!!
Very Challenging Water
This course was especially challenging for me being new to the game with a strong slice off the tee. A lot of water on the course to navigate but me and my partner had a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend it and will play again soon.
Won't be going back.
I have played at Old Capitol several times and it is normally very nice. This time was a different story. This is the first time I had been there in 2014 and the course was in terrible shape. I am not sure what was going on but the fairways were very rough and several tee boxes were bad as well. The greens were very nice. This could be due to our bad winter or some other related issue, but other courses in the area are not suffering like this one. Honestly it just looks like they have quit taking care of it. On top of that, the pace of play was gruesome. It took over 5 hours to play, mainly do to a foursome of beginners playing some scramble format and not letting anyone play through. I know sometimes the course can't do much about that, but it still takes away from the experience. I will not be going back to this place this year.
Hidden Gem
Wonderful course. Plenty of hills, water and trees. Open enough that the average golfer can stay in bounds all day, challenging enough for the experienced golfer. Will play it time and again.
Still needs work
The fairways still need a little work. Alot of bare spots.Tee boxes are also a little rough. Greens were in great shape as well as the longer grass and the bunkers. I've always like the layout of the course, and with some tlc it could be great course.
Still Recovering
This is one of my favorite places to play. They still have a lot of damaged fairways from the hard winter. I'll probably avoid playing here for the next 30 to 60 days until they are able to get the course back in the great shape it is known for. Greens are in good shape but you won't enjoy the play if the fairways have to be avoided...
Thanks for the review! We have completed a lot of the maintenance and the course is in great shape! Hope to see you this summer!
